If you expect this movie to be a faithful recreation of the OG Ghost in the Shell (1995), then you’ll rate this poorly.
If you see it as a reimagining and sort of a mix of the Ghost in the Shell universe, where elements from different GITS movies and series are put together, then I don’t think this movie is as bad as said.
I’m not a fan of live-action adaptations, but I think they did a pretty fair job — visually pretty exciting with resemblances to Blade Runner with all the holograms, skyscrapers and neons, but also added some cool subtle references to other animes like Cowboy Bepop and Evangelion.
Of course, there are many minors on this movie, and some actors feel a bit bland for the character they have, but I’d say overall it’s an entertaining movie, with the first half being quite fun to watch and the second half ok-ish.

]]>No matter how many times I watch this movie, it’s always an exciting visual experience, gripped by an emotional narrative.
Satoshi Kon’s films, in particular Perfect Blue, are such influential masterpieces, no wonder why Darren Aronofsky (Requiem For A Dream, Black Swan) and Nolan (Inception) have drawn inspiration from Kon to shape their own iconic works.
