Dune: Part Two

2024

Thought to give this another try after reading the book and surprise surprise, my thoughts are largely unchanged, even harsher perhaps, given the fact that I walked out shortly after the Harkonen homeworld section. I am not one of those types that demands loyalty or even respect for film adaptations but this is because I believe in the prospect that someone can add a new perspective or idea on established material. But Villenueve is not one of these people. Making a film about faith, the consequences of faith, anything pertaining to some conception of a higher power or, well, any basic human emotion, is simply not within his toolbox. Nothing to think about, and rarely anything to look at either. Tiresome! Why did I bother?
