I watched this film sober and I didnt make it 20 minutes.

I watched this movie on shrooms, and I couldnt stop laughing.

Did I really take about half eighth of shrooms and trip balls to this? Yes.

Do I regret wasting my trip on this silly ass film? We all have regrets, some worse than others.

Oh its because most Americans are dumb and lazy and refuse to read subtitles for foreign films.

I understand the idea of taking something and making it your own, thats what usually happens within different cultures like Kurosawa with Shakespeare, and Tarantino with... well most every film... but to take your own film and then sort of whitewash it? The film is remarkably shot. But the problem is that its tone deaf in its approach. Im glad Im not in the minority here where I was laughing at the fact that this is about class warfare.... but uhhh which classes are fighting lol.

Dona Carla could learn a thing or two from her maid, or maybe Luigi Mangione.

Ok... theres this terrible trend of cinematic regression and this film hits all the notes within the first 20 minutes.

Lets start with CGI.

Before Computer Graphics allowed productions to add whatever crap they wanted and swoop through any bullshit ass valley vistas, they had to find a reason to why whatever they had to shoot, related to the rest of the film. (Think Kubricks shot of the shining, even the swooping vista introduces us in a master wide of a shot that eventually works its way to a 3 shot... and we stay there until the scene finishes.) I first started noticing this problem with Spielbergs Crystal Skull, theres a random ass groundhog or prairie dog that almost gets run over by a truck, and it made me think, "so you paid money, to have someone sit in a room, create a fake animal, for nothing? To go nowhere?" And that now has evolved into whatever nonsense directors think theyre creating today. "Lets put fish going across the screen, and lets add lollipops and rainbows!!!" Like bro... calm the fuck down the CGI. Its literally taking me out of your story.

Editing...

I dont know what the fuck is happening out there. Who is teaching these new wave of directors these shit ass techniques of editing their films. We dont need to see everyones reactions in close ups, and for god sakes start with a master. Please stop going wide to close wide to close. I also cant understand why a take cant last longer than 3 seconds. This ADD way of creating films is making viewing experiences literally impossible for me.

Casting.

I knew Arianna was a terrible choice and I was right. She's not an actor. Great singer, but alas, a terrible actor. The camera doesnt lie, she attempts this dainty sort of porcelain like role and it just falls flat with her eyebrows being the highlight of the tragic mess.

I watched 20 minutes of this 2 hour film and I can explain to you why cinema is in regression. It depresses me everytime I see new film and it makes me want to just stop watching films all together because it makes me feel helpless that no one truly cares about making meaningful art and will settle for absolute trash like this and call it ground breaking.

Ive been meaning to make a post about this but I couldnt because all my books, movies.... well all my belongings were in a storage unit until the last few months, and I now just ed to post about this...

If you enjoy film theory as much as I do, you have maybe found yourself buying and searching through various different books to satiate that sort of appetite. Well as someone who owns well over 15 to 20 books on theory I wanted to share two of my favorite from the same author who also happened to be one of my teachers at film school, Mr. Michael Bolus.

For those who dont know, I graduated from LA film school in Hollywood with an Associates, I then studied at AFI for almost a year unofficially by working on student thesis shoots, cycle films, and crashed an occasional course, with help of my teacher at LA Film Mr. Charlie Rose. One of the nicest and most intelligent teachers Ive ever known. It was there that I was able to network and land a job on The Amazing Race. That was about 10 years ago now, and since then Ive had a somewhat successful career ing the IATSE union as well as 50+ credits or so on IMDb. There isnt one piece of equipment on a film set that I havent personally had some sort of experience with, from every era.

Since then Ive been reading and formualting a reasonable catalog of ideas and I find myself going back to the basics and refreshing myself of past inspirations. Mr. Michael Bolus being one of them. He has written two amazing books, Aesthetics And The Cinematic Narrative, and The Light In The Dark. Both at hefty prices, I know, but if you follow me Ill be explaining the films he analyzes in the same retrospect in the coming months in order for me to feel comfortable again with my attempt on finishing this script that is a literal weight on my conscious.

Thanks again for your attention and your constant , it makes all of this effort worth while. ❤️

An act of violence isnt just black and white, theres shades of grey that reveal more than what meets the eye. A generation of fools made to fight a rich mans obsession of loyalty and patriotism. Its been 2 years and Im still mad that Barbie never knew what a vagina was until she got one.

I cooked a bomb ass meal during this film and made fun of Jay Leno while doing it.

The recipe was way better than this film so Ill share it here:

Chicken marinade:
2 tbs honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil
2 cup soy sauce
Garlic and ginger
Wisk in a bowl, pat chicken dry, and insert half of marinade or so amd chicken into ziploc bag, flip every half hour for atleast an hour.

Heat pan, add oil of choice until reaches desired temp, cook chicken breast depending on size 3-5 mins each side, finish in oven at 375 for 10-20 minutes until internal temp reads 155 160, then let sit for 5 mins and allow temp to reach 160-165. Use rest of mariande to deglaze pan, and heat for 1-2 minutes, and set aside.

Tarragon Butter rice:
Cook butter in sauce pot, dont burn on low med heat, add shallots and salt and sweat the shallots about 3-5 mins. Add washed rice and cook for about 3 mins. Add stock, homemade beef or chicke. stock is preferred, 1 1/2 cups of stock for each 1 cup of rice. Bring to boil, and then simmer for 15 mins, then let steam cook with the heat off for 10 mins. Add freshly chopped tarragon, and sesame seeds, and fluff rice using two forks to incorporate seasoning. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Films like this are always important to what might sound good on paper wont always translate to the screen.

Unfortunately this film is boring because of its direction. Everything is there but alas, it just plays out safely as possible.

Im not sure if mimesis should be your main focus if youre literally boring your audience to death. Shake things up, and think out of the box, for all of us.

Sometimes what I like to do when I'm watching some blatantly misogynistic content is pretend that a bunch of gay men in a room are just hating on women in a ironic way, rather than imagining a room of hateful spiteful closeted husbands. It makes the experience a little more easy to digest.

Things to take away from this, whoever created this was inspired by Wacky Races by Hannah-Barbera, and did a decent job considering the voice acting, and the fun idea of seeing Shaggy as a hound like creature next to Scooby and unfortunately Scrappy too.

Hamilton Camp, the voice for dracula, was pretty funny at first but at the end youre just curious why he had so many lines, and if it was at all necessary lol

Im sort of in a rut right now, anyone recommend any good films for me Id appreciate it, theres just so many options I dont know what to choose from at this point.

Erroll Flynn is an obvious OG. Im kinda ashamed it took me this long to start his catalog. Its always important to me to see where the giants received their inspiration from.

The movie plays a little screwball-y, at the tail end of the screwball comedy era. Plot lines and devices run a bit cliche but what really impressed me was Walshs use of montage in the film. Very elegant and straightforward film making that reminds you that simplicity is key. Chuck Jones obviously very inspired by this era makes me feel as if Im watching a looney tunes movie at times. Highly recommend for movie lovers and old timey sort of humor.

Im really good at finding things to complain about, which is probably the reason why Ive limited most of my time away from social media.

But tonight I sit here watching Tom n Jerry cartoons I that film, actual emulsion, used to cost money. Alot of money. Like it was a big part of the budget and even more so as time progressed into the new millenia.

So I think it would be interesting now in the "digital age" if we were to calculate theoretical emulsion numbers to new productions. I think film productions get away with moving that sort of discrepancy around without ever really adressing it.

If they took the time it did to make quality footage as their predecessors have, well then Im curious as to what sort of budgets are we working with including adjustments for inflation.

Also vice versa.... we should consider how much money it takes to make each production today WITHOUT the costs of emulsion and then I think it would be a fair diagram of the disproportionate budget sizes from then and today.

I might do this later, but its already tomorrow as I type it and these cartoons arent gonna watch themselves.

This shit took me 2 rewatches, a 3 hour nap, 1 cooked pasta and meat sauce meal, all for this miserable rich bitch to play victim for almost 2 hours and desert the hottest piece of ass she'd ever get.

Women in general have gotten the short stick when it comes to independence. So when men write about them it really says more about the writer than it does for the subject matter for me. They're either

A. A psychotic killer after being raped or

B. A strong free natured sexual spirit,

which both premises are beaten into your head for about 120+ years of cinematic progression and doesnt really sing feminism to me. True feminism imo detracts any sort of sexual proclivity towards a protagonist and allows for a much deeper non gendered approach to a characters persona. Yes we are sexual beings, but theres a lot more to it than just fucking. Theres eating, shitting, and sleeping, none of which ever seem to be explored as much as the latter.

Which brings me to what I want to talk about, like who are these stories for? Are these stories for women?? I dont think women like to think of themselves being limited to two choices. I would argue that these stories are for people who think they can steal a woman away from a man. An abused wife, desperate for love, finds a snobbish writer to cheat on with? Like come the fuck on. Only really corny housewives with the intellect of a fried walnut would fall for these matte paintings of masculinity.

I dont know, maybe Im jaded but I didnt appreciate this approach to just yell at a woman about how terrible she is for about 100 minutes and then call it progressive. 😆

Well its definitely a western, but the attempt seems phoned in. Not in the bad performance sorta way, but I think the script couldve had a once over. Theres just a sort of redundant back and forth with the story line concerning revenge and real motives.

I enjoy revisionist ideas but here I think when you have the camp getting getting fucked up, the revenge isnt for our protagonists per say more than the savior complex they seem to cater.

Overall enjoyable.

Choosing to end your life is a final choice, there's no undo button for humans. Its easy to understand why someone would do it. Overwhelming feelings start to feel as if they define us or who we are going to be for the rest of our lives, as if there's no end to our suffering. Luckily there is a tomorrow, a day where you'll these feelings, and that's exactly what they'll be. A memory of where you were rather than who you were or are. Just no feeling is final and its okay to reach out and seek help. Going through this world blind is a challenge enough, we all need a helping hand. ❤️

Why did you shoot a film about
women?

I have the feeling that all my films are about women, I am totally at their mercy. They are the only people I feel really at ease with, They represent myth, mystery, diversity, fascination, the thirst for knowledge and the-search for one's own identity, Women are everything. I even see the cinema itself as a woman, with its alternation and darkness, of appearing and disappearing images. Going to the cinema is like returning to the womb. You sit there still and meditative in the darkness waiting for life to appear on the screen. One should go to the cinema with the innocence of a fetus.

What did you think of feminism
before you made CITY OF WOMEN?

I knew nothing about it. I never know why I choose to shoot one film rather then another. I could even say that it is not I who chooses a theme but the theme that chooses me, and then the film immediately takes shape and acquires images and feelings. Then I start doing some research on the subject, and carry out a kind of journalistic inquiry. I wander around, keeping my eyes open, talking to people, hearing what they have to say, reading, listening and asking questions, and in the end I come to the conclusion that I am enormously ignorant.

What form did your inquiry take in this particular case?

I met a lot of feminist writers, including Germaine Greer, the author of "The Female Eunuch." She kept on repeating shyly in the tone of a retired Pope, "But Federico, what do you know about women?"Some of them even wrote a few pages for me. I have listened to ionate feminist speeches, songs and testimonies. Out of curiosity I even tried to get into the Rome feminist-headquarters in Via de Governo Vechio, but they threw me out. I asked some of them to take part in the film and they did.

How did things go on the set when
you were filming?

Absolutely everyone collaborated. Actually I often think about the experience now with great pleasure. There was no sign whatsoever of any form of disdain protest or rebellion. Quite the contrary, "they all offered to help and made suggestions in a kind of childish way, as everyone does when facing a camera or a mirror. None of them made any objections. Of course, now, they are bound to deny that and say that I took advantage of them and distorted everything they said. In fact I was not out to deceive anyone and I explained everything. I even said that certain exaggerated parts of the film, bordering on parody, express the point of view of an aging man who cannot help regarding feminism with fear and bewilderment.

So feminism seems unintelligible and
irrational to you, does it?

I would listen to their feminist arguments with respect and sympathy, my attitude was not polemical, When the time came to shoot the film and filter and give expresion to all I had learned about women's destiny through the solidarity and disdain I had felt as a man of my
times, everything cynically materialized
into lights, color and makeup. The real drama no longer centered on a
particular feminist's denunciation of oppression, but on the best way to make the light fall on her left eye.

Your film presents a rather grotesque view of the feminist world, doesn't it?

I do not think it is a caricature and
I insist that I have not invented a single word. Obviously you cannot avoid a certain effect of accumulation and condensation but I have not falsified the usual feminist arguments, their invectives against phallocracy", their insistence on the distinction between masculine and
feminine expressions, and their attempt
to find a new name for the vagina and
avoid the brutal and ugly men use
to refer to it. This buzz of protest, this
proclamation of contradictory hypothesis, this female world in agitation although it descends to mediocrity when it becomes collective, and is rather pathetic in its limited outbursts, is, nonetheless as vital as water. Like water it flows in rivers and fills every available space. It is an earthquake the chaotic birth of something new. I do not think I have misrepresented or given a negative impression of this world by working within the limits I have chosen. On the contrary, I have presented Züberkock's world from a feminist point of view.

So the feminist world represents the chaos of progress, whereas the ultra-masculine world represents the decay of conservatism. Which side are you on?

I am just a tourist, a attractive er-by. I am in Studio No. 5 in Cinecittà, where I belong.

A few striking female figures stand guest

woman Snaporaz meets in the train,
dressed in a fur hat, boots and a severe blue suit. What is her significance?

She represents Minerva, Dianna, the serious, severe, feminist warrior who intimidates, overawes and castrates men.

And who are the heavily made-up 14-
year-old girls, dressed horribly like
punks, and piled into cars, who chase
the hero?

In my opinion they are the dramatic characters in the film. One of them says a really significantline hero, "Don't worry, just dance like us. Anyway, what else is there to do?" This is a terrifyingly true statement because she really has no family, no school and no future. What else can these Young girls do except go on dancing to the wild rhythms they have been brought up on?

And finally, what about the attractive, half-naked young girl with the enormous breasts? She reappears throughout the film in various guises: as a feminist, as a guest at Züberkock's house; as a showgirl in an old-fashioned variety show; as a balloon-wife wearing her bridal veil and a holy virgin's halo; as a terrorist who fires at her own balloon image and as a student of reality. Who does she represent?

She is a "Woman". She represents all the different and contradictory images of a woman: sphinx, mother, solar sensuality,
hidden magic. She is Donatella Damiani, a student in Economics. She is a
fundamental character in the film and she came to me quite out of the blue. It always happens to me that way, when
I have intensely evoked the atmosphere of a film, then something lands in my
lap, like a gift. This time it was a photo of Donatella. It was a close-up which did not show her enormous mother's breasts that feed, lull to sleep and hide everything. I was struck by her face which resembled that of awooden puppet or a figure on a Tarot card and her bright, dark eyes,
which looked almost sightless. She was the typical postcard image of an Italian woman, with her petite stature, her slim figure, and her sharp little teeth. he had the remote fascination of a sea horse or some strange mythical creature. Although she is practically nude throughout most of the film, showing her enormous breasts, she is never obscene. She is a kind of elfin or spirit-like figure.

At the end of the film, when the
hero is about to engage in a
wrestling match ith vomen
wrestlers (which may end in love or
death) why does he find
the ring empty?

There is no enemy, because he does not understand women - women cannot be men's opponents. And, furthermore, in spite of all that has been said, the act of the act of making love remains
a mystery.

So one is still in the dark at the end of CITY OF WOMEN?

Almost, but not quite. The hero returns to the warm darkness of the womb. The train he is still travelling on, after his dream which has lasted two hours and twenty minutes (the length of the film), enters a dark tunnel. I thought it would have been too rhetorical to end with an image of
total darkness, so I left a ray of light at the end of the tunnel, the distant hope
of a new birth.

Kristey Alley shooting at cops on a roof of a Grocery Store is a definite 90s vibe.

Idk man... i really liked this little noir/spy/mystery tale. Newman and Robinson, man what a pair. Old school meets new school and its not like that dried out depressing style like in Guys and Dolls with Sinatra and Brando. Im pretty sure if I give this another watch I might just dig it even more.

I cant tell ya how cool Newman is in this film, even thoughd he's supposed to play this eccentric playboy, something about Newmans Charisma that just oozes cool, and it emenates no matter what the dialog is. Ive been watching Newman films for a good decade now, and honestly when it comes between him and Lancaster on being one of my top favorites. While Lancaster has that dramatic edge, Newman just leaves you wanting more everytime.

Highly recommend this film for fans of James Bond sort of crime thrillers and of course Paul Newman fans. A+ material here.

Ive watched this like 100 times this year. Its my new favorite musical. No I wont elaborate. The film literally speaks for itself. If youre not smiling through this whole film, then maybe go to Canada for some free healthcare, because there aint anything a US hospital gonna do for you... or just watch this film instead of treating your severe depression.

Life is a gift from the universe. We find ourselves experiencing the universe in a small part of it. Dwindling around on this blue plot of reflective surface. Water based mammals feeding off other water based animals, asking ourselves if death is closer than we anticipate? Theres no real solution to this anxiety, no pills, no art, nothing that we can help the universe understand itself. We sit here, patiently, with the ones we are surrounded with, watching, waiting. Left only with an ending, a slow fade to black, and a small memoriam.

Hey everyone

I hit 1,000 followers yesterday, and normally dont gush over these sort of things mainly because I think I suffer from low self esteem, I usually think everyone secretly hates me and usually has selfish motivations for wanting my attention. Its something Ive been working on as a kid, but recently as Ive been gaining followers, this sort of anxiety has been manifesting again.

Weirdly just had a dream last night where I revisited a lot of my old friends in a sort of gala reception held by a famous celebrity and everyone was just sort of ignoring me, kinda reliving old anxieties from high school where I was trying to fit in with every social scene.

So now I wake up and feel the same emotions as a I felt as a kid, bitter and indifferent to the attention I receive. Are these people who follow me friends? Foes? Are they even real? Why would I celebrate this as a victory?

Truth is, Ive been waiting for this moment for a few months now ever since Ive started gaining more and more followers, which I think contributed to my ongoing anxiety. I know for others 1,000 people might not mean much since they probably accomplish that threshold by farting, but to me it was a perilous attempt to follow back and unfollow those who leave. Which Ive come to realize is becoming a more futile project, and also a representation of my esteem.

I guess what I really wanted to say was thank you for following the insane ravings of my page. I know Im not the most talented writer, or have the most stable approach to criticisms at times, but knowing theres people out there who think its worth reading, well it makes me feel better about trying in the first place.
