Having faith in Jon M. Chu to create an engaging, vibrant, and unforgettable musical based on a highly-rated Broadway show of the same name is like asking one of the top 10 chefs in the world to prepare your favorite meal with their unique twist. The result, even if anticipated, is nothing short of extraordinary.
It has already been a few days, but I wanted to wait before choosing where to place in my top of the year. And now the deal is sealed — yes, it's going in my top 20. I can see myself watching it again before it leaves the theaters. It's THAT good.
I can still relive the last 10 minutes and feel the crescendo of the song Defying Gravity. It was so sensational. Never before had getting slammed with a 'To Be Continued' at the end of a film been satisfying.
Wicked is not only dangerously addictive but is paced like a breeze. All the performances are stunningly on-point, and I still can't believe how g̶o̶o̶d̶ g̶r̶e̶a̶t̶ amazing Ariana Grande was as Glinda. The production design is also a gigantic A+++. The Pink vs. Black/Blonde vs. Green juxtaposition must have been a pleasure for the colorists on set.
Describing Wicked as a magical experience is not even an exaggeration. It is a sacred cinematic event that will take non-musical fans by storm and make the faithful fans count the days before the second part in 2025.
