Well-made, intricately-plotted, solid acting all around (Glenn Ford is always great, of course), surprisingly good production values, but it suffers because it’s just too long. No way a movie like this should be 1h50m. Still, the climax is bonkers and so the payoff is probably worth it.
Great cast. McDowell, especially, gives it his all, but it’s still a mess. Not easy to jerk off to, either. In the end, it’s difficult to recommend unless you have a a preexisting interest in: Tinto Brass, mainstream porn crossover attempts, 70s Italian genre films, and/or (in)famous cinematic disasters.
It’s all either Maurizio Merli talking about how he wants to drive fast, or Maurizio Merli driving fast. Except for the part in the middle where Maurizio Merli searches his soul to figure out if he really does want to drive fast. (Spoiler alert: yes, Maurizio Merli does want to drive fast.)
Highly recommended.
