possibly the most beautiful dumb movie i've ever seen.

one second i'm rolling my eyes at a bad acting choice (except for maggie cheung, who is perfect) or a corny story beat, and the next i'm looking at the most breathtaking shot of maggie cheung in a grimy hong kong apartment or having my heart ripped out watching maggie cheung fall in love to a cantonese rendition of 'take my breath away.'

did i mention that maggie cheung is in…

While Halloween (2018) may seem a typical slasher flick, astute viewers will parse the subtextual social message: true crime podcasters are the scum of the Earth.

oh, this old thing? it's not even fair. you don't even stand a chance once this one gets going. don't bother trying. there's nothing you can do about it.

furthermore, having the literally breathtaking emotional licking this film inflicts delivered in 4k? are you kidding?

sincerely, though: this movie is so, so beautiful!

De Niro and Pesci are at the height of their powers here, in a film that accomplishes the grandeur and scope of Goodfellas but with a stronger emotional core—thanks in large part to Sharon Stone who is just incredible and brings an inherent truth to a really tragic character.

The filmmaking itself is just lights out as well. Beautiful cinematography, obviously, set design, costumes (the blazers!), SOUNDTRACK. Every element is just masterfully done by the master himself.

Had to rewatch for the 31st anniversary. I first saw Twin Peaks 8 years ago, and it completely changed how I watched television and film. Literal life-changer.

And even though I’ve seen it probably 9 or 10 times now, the pilot still genuinely affects and completely engrosses me from start to finish. Unbelievable how it can be so devastating, hilarious, strange, and terrifying all at once. Pure alchemy.

Interestingly, the anniversary of the pilot falls on my dad’s birthday. Coincidence? I think not...

Twin Peaks IS my dad.

I watched this with my cat, and I think he understood this film as much as I did.

That being said, this was like a 90-minute nightmare very much in the spirit of End of Evangelion—it ruled.
