I’m lucky enough to live somewhere that you can feel moderately safe going to a movie theatre right now, so the fact that my gf and I got to go watch this in IMAX definitely colours my experience a bit but...

MAN, did I have a blast with this thing. It finds the perfect balance of all the elements of the best Showa era Godzillas. This film’s goofy plot and characters are *just* present enough to give some vague coherence and a few chuckles without slowing the roll of the crazy destruction set pieces that continually up the ante as it rolls on. And those set pieces, man... The visuals, sound effects, and soundtrack are just plain rad.

The film also minimized the amount of Kyle Chandler to a much more palatable level than in King of the Monsters and, in an incredible twist (SPOILERS), throws in a dash of Lance Reddick for no apparent reason in the final act—which really pushed this flick over the finish line into proper banger territory.
