Of course it sures the first part in practically every aspect. It moves dynamically, feels more than alive, and shows a darker, more mercenary side to war. I think probably no one comes close to what Denis Villeneuve has done in the last eight years, and despite his latest statements, his film opens with a powerful monologue from the goddess Florence Pugh. It continues to incorporate the ecosystem as a pivotal part of the story as in few films, seeing more of the sandworms is a damn delight. The entire cast is extraordinary of course, but I think my favorite was Brolin as the loyal Gurney. Conflicts feel palpable and tense, both in individuals and factions. There were two sequences that I loved: the one with the helicopter (Paul's first real challenge) and when he rode the sandworm (the last challenge that made him consecrated with the Fremen). I have perhaps some insignificant complaints such as the duration of the duel between Gurney and Rabban, Florence Pugh and Léa Seydoux screen time, and the most important where the fuck is Stephen McKinley Henderson?! Finally, the twist knocked me out of my chair and WE NEED MORE MOVIES WITH TRIALS BY COMBAT.
