Despite having seen this movie frequently as a teenager, it is fairly terrible and somehow way worse than I ed. 

The first half of the movie is littered with the laziest tropes and is hard to get through but the movie reaches a high point with Sebastian Stan’s ~reveal~. Late 90s Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts really brought the fire here - super solid rom-com that still works to this day!

The stakes are appropriate, the chemistry is believable, the characters are likeable and make sense, the writing has that British charm to it that Hugh Grant excels at. Just all around a feel-good story that had me rooting for these two to get together in the end.

I recently bought a house and christened it with this movie and it was a great choice. Yes I do know most of the dialogue by heart and yes I stand by the odd color grading and the incredible indie soundtrack.

Kristen is at her Kristen-est and Rob plays tortured, self-hating, vampire just so well. It's so bad it comes around to good again and honestly it's almost a perfect adaptation of the book.

Dropping this down to 3.5 stars on a second watch but I still really enjoy it! It is truly unlike anything I've ever seen before or since and it earned an "I like it" from my impossibly hard to impress sister.
