Colby’s review published on Letterboxd:
Parts of this were truly jaw-dropping. The scale of some of the crowds and action sequences were so ambitious that they felt straight out of a 1920s film, and the score and cinematography were sights to behold. Some of the actors were great, too, with Florence Pugh and Austin Butler in particular proving they’re going to be actors to . I have lots of issues with this still, mainly because I find the Paul character to be so dry and milquetoast that you can’t get behind him, and the film lacked a lot of heart. It was still good, and felt like one of those movies that feels more akin to an event than anything else. Like Lawrence of Arabia, but not nearly as good. I do see and understand the hype, though. If you’re a science fiction fan, then this may seem to be the pinnacle of the genre for you.
