I really enjoyed this, but I have to take the writing to task here; it's messy. A big character moment is rushed. In fact, much of the third act feels rushed. The motivations and planning for the final battle were practically skipped over. It's irritating seeing Javier Bardem essentially say the same thing over and over, and the same hallucination/dream over and over, when that time could be better spent with developing the mother character. The engaging villain played by Austin Butler also needed more screentime, as did the villains from Part One.
So....the script needs some fixin' but the action, visuals and music are even better than Part One. There's less of the grating "aaaaaaAHHHHHHHH" theme and more variety in everything from color, costume design and camerawork. The action scene with moving cover was fantastic. The Fremen culture and combat is well-explored through action sequences and rituals. Dune: Part Two moves by quickly for an almost 3-hour film, and I'm excited for the next installment.
