there is something only an italian filmmaker can manage to capture when it comes to italian history/scenery. i wouldn’t know how to explain it in any way that would make sense besides this one. gorgeous. i feel like i’ve watched this movie already in dreams.
there are no words to describe how eerily beautiful this movie is. haunting even with no ghosts. the ghosts are the inter-familiar relationships. the people who roam around cenci. the events of the past.
beautiful sound design and set design. amazing costumes. mommy issues galore in a way it is rarely understood.
this is what gothic is about.
it took a long while for me to write a review for this movie. i think it needed to sit down with me for a while and i needed to poke at it and look at it from different angles.
