Obviously the mystery at the ostensible center of this film is secondary to the dynamic between Carney and Tomlin, and my god what a wonderful one -- sweet and a little tragic, somehow greater than the sum of its already unimaginably great parts.

Extremely silly movie, the kind in which a police investigator (a very attractive young George Brent) exclaims, unironically, "I'm going to go investigate!" Joan Blondell, my favorite of favorites, has enough charm in her big eyes to make this watchable.
