Chris Coke’s review published on Letterboxd:
Two basic problems with the first film.
The first is that the visuals weren't what I would have done, though they looked pretty. Villeneuve went for hyper-stylized, when I wanted to see more "lived-in".
The second was that it didn't go anywhere. Basically all set-up.
Well, this movie readily answers that second concern. It goes places.
And as to the first, I was ready for it and accepted it. Not quite the movie I would have made, but then I can't make movies.
The ending has always felt rushed to me, including in the novel. Still true here. Though again, I was quite ready for it. And it's not like the movie is on the short side as is.
