"Life is not defined by any single moment, but by the sum of our choices..." (Luther)

"Mission Impossible - The Final Reckoning", is the big red bow on 29yrs of watching Tom Cruise make the impossible look possible; to the day. (5/22/1996)

Watch all the previous "Mission Impossible" movies so you can fully enjoy the final movie. Characters, side stories, connected dots, this is the final piece of the puzzle.

The man is in his sixties, and still run faster and further than most of us. After watching this movie, scientology might be something to look into if I can do that at sixty.

With an almost 3hr runtime, see this big, loud, and in your most comfortable fit, preferably a Snuggie, and bring all your favorite snacks.

This movie is for any movie lover wanting a good time out, especially "Mission" fans. See this either the first early morning screening or the later screenings, so you and the family or your besties can get comfortable and vibe out to the end of an era. This post will self destruct after you read this in: ...5...4...3...2....

Cheers!

(Side Note: Sorry Abe Lincoln, but f🫠k pennies, crypto baby.)

Yeah, we know death is coming for all of us, and when the universe speaks listen, but damn death has a sense of humor. If death is planning billions of expiration dates a day, it must have a sense of humor and this movie was it.

Have fun with this one, it's not like the previous ones you just binge watched before you booked your tickets, but it's entertaining.

"You can't do that....You made friends with me too soon, and now you're cutting me off?"

"Friendship", is the story of "that guy" or "that girl", we all know at least one clueless person who can never read the room and misjudge every moment and it comes off narcissistic, this is that movie.

Tim Robinson is an absolute genius with his face. Yes, he's an actor and they're masters at manipulating their eyes and facial gestures, but Tim Robinson is on another level. All the comedy in this movie comes from Robinson's offbeat looks and eye movement to go along with the clueless nature of his character.

Paul Rudd dialed down the "Paul Rudd" to give us a simple version of himself with his character's own issues, but Paul Rudd can't help being "Paul Rudd" if you know what I mean.

The question the movie tried to ask, and I'll ask it here, is making new friends in adulthood difficult? Why is it so easy for us as kids, while making new friends in adulthood is on par with speed dating and blind dates, there is no easy way to not make it feel awkward?

This movie is for Tim Robinson fans, Paul Rudd fans, adults who have a difficult time making new friends, and anyone that want to laugh at how awkward we become as adults.

Josh Hartnett acting is in his eye brows. The man makes a quality hung over drunk that just happens to fight better drunk.

This movie wants to have substance with the mentions of righting the wrongs of big business, from child labor issues, to poisoning nations, but we the audience don't care about none of that when every 10-15mins someone is getting something broken, somewhere shot, or getting cut by a chainsaw.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is a dude movie, light in substance, heavy in fighting. If you want action, and just action not logic, then this is your movie. "Heyyy is that a t mannnn...goddamn looks like a quarter pounder mannnn..."

"Up in Smoke", is the story of two men on a mission, a mission only Cheech and Chong could survive.

Directed by Legendary Record Producer Lou Adler, "Up and Smoke" is the buddy comedy that ushered in a whole new era in buddy comedies; the weed movie.

(Currently Free on YouTube Movies)
*This is Not an Ad*

Cheech and Chong are, and were comedic geniuses. Everything seen in this movie are bits they created for the stage and used in the movie. Go watch old Cheech and Chong stand up comedy, then it will all makes sense if you're a novice to their comedy.

My advice, check out the latest docu-movie "Cheech and Chong's Last Movie" about the two and you'll get more history and fun facts about "Up and Smoke" that will make you appreciate these two comedic geniuses. Yes, they ushered in the "weed movie" and that branded them in most people's minds, but what they really did was expand the comedy space for everything we see now in the "buddy comedy" movie genre.

Without Cheech and Chong, there is no "Wayne's World", "How High", "Dumb and Dumber", "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure", and the list goes on. That's why we love Cheech and Chong, not just for the weed, but the lane they created.

This movie is for anyone needing a laugh, period. Yes the subject matter kept granny away when it first came out in 1978, but oh how times have changed, so enjoy yourself, in moderation of course.

"We always knew it would be 'Cheech and Chong', not 'Chong and Cheech' because we could hear the music in saying the name 'Cheech and Chong.'"

"Cheech and Chong's Last Movie", is the big red ribbon on top of a great comedy career by one of the greatest improv comedy duos of all-time. When the universe needs people together, it will happen, and these two together showed us a comedy career that created magic.

This docu-trip-down-memory-lane movie tells the story of "Cheech and Chong", the how, the when, the why. These two created more than just weed movie cult classics, they were the blueprint for acts like "Key & Peele." Seeing this movie will turn up your comedy spidey senses and you'll pick up other familiar comedy formulas you've seen work within the past 20yrs that piggybacked off of "Cheech and Chong."

Another fun aspect of this movie, how each one's personality built this bond. If you wanna see how to hold onto your bestie for a lifetime, "Cheech and Chong" gives game on how to maintain a life long bond with those that "improve your opposites."

If you don't know their full story, but know their work, check this out for a quality ride down memory lane.

Did you know Tommy Chong was in a successful Motown Records band before comedy and has a beautiful voice, or that 'Cheech' Marin nickname ('Cheech') comes from his uncle thinking he looked like a "chicharron" when he was a baby and it stuck as a nickname his family called him.

This movie is for my comedy lovers, history lovers, music lovers, storytellers/writers, creatives with multiple talents, and anyone a fan of sketch comedy. These two individually were amazing, but together they were phenomenal.

"You have such delicious knees...."

"The Shrouds", is the story of when tech meets death. Based around the history and/or idea of "The Shroud of Turin" (the linen cloth that supposedly wrapped Jesus body after the crucifixion, which bears the image of a man). Tech visionary "Karsh" (Vincent Cassel) goes into the death business to create burial plots that incorporate video and 3D imaging inside, so families can see their loved ones beyond the day of burial.

Now, I've seen some far out ideas where technology can be utilized, this movie goes high on that list of original ideas, and if anyone decides to follow through with this idea in real life, I'm buying every stock possible.

Imagine burying your loved one, and that wasn't it, you could still see their presence, or representation of their presence in real time. Yes it sounds trippy and morbid, but you gotta give points for originality.

The movie wasn't tech heavy in jargon, or concept, but the fact that someone would try to incorporate technology into the death process, what an untapped market.

On the technical moviemaking side, the movie had a few holes, the cinematography played out like a Sunday afternoon local television movie, and the pacing was a little slow. The movie was trying to get the audience to wrap our heads around the idea, and give history at the same time, which caused the slow pacing.

I'm not sure if Zuckerberg wants to touch this area of influence, but the funeral business is due for some innovation beyond what people get when they bury their loved ones.

This movie is for Vincent Cassel fans, Guy Pierce fans, "what-if" thinkers who enjoy stretching the imagination of what can be possible, and history fans. Enjoy this movie because it makes you say "huh."

"The ant 2" , is the story of how amazing the brain can be, but we don't tap into its ability because we live on the surface level of our potential.

This movie wanted to use a lot of brain science to help us understand our true potential, but it was just 2hrs of juxtaposition. On one side we have kids being exploited for human trafficking, and on the other side we have kids being exploited for their genius.

This movie was a few years too late because most people forgot about the first "ant" movie, and I think Hollywood should move away from the human trafficking storyline because it's being played out in real time in America so we already understand its depredation to society.

To all my "Call of Duty" fans, and Google tech personnel, this movie is for you. Again, movies as of late have been showing us how the government or geniuses are using our phones and all the CCTV cameras everywhere to surveil us, and here was no different, just different surveillance party tricks.

"Anger is just sadness with no place to go...."

"Sacramento", is the story of the moment we all had or will have when life tells you "hey you, it's time to grow up" and all the anxiety responsibility brings.

"Sacramento" wanted to be a buddy comedy, but traded that in to be the "Reading Rainbow" lesson of the day when it comes to becoming an adult.

In the case of "Sacramento", becoming new parents were their "wake up to adulthood" moment.

Michael Cera is a master at his offbeat mannerisms and facial expression. That man knows how to play awkward, peeved, and a sense of bewilderment all in one act.

Kristen Stewart is an acting gem. Some people are just born for certain careers, and when they find it early, we get to experience the full length of their genius, this is Kristen Stewart's acting career since "Panic Room." Although she had limited scenes, you could still feel the depth behind her mannerisms even in the simplest of conversations in the movie. If you want to check out a quality Kristen Stewart movie where all her acting abilities are on display, I would check out "Spencer."

This movie was light and airy, the depth of it tried to come in the form of emotional cues the characters were dealing with, but it's the sensibility of the movie that was the winner. Becoming an adult ain't easy, so when you get to see a movie like this that shows all the anxieties of what true responsibilities look like, i.e. having a kid, the humanity they were trying to portray in various moments, shined.

Shout out to Michael Angarano for being in the movie that he directed, that's not an easy task. I'm always going to show homage to any actor that's directing the project they're in because of all the hats they have to juggle. And he does play a pretty good offbeat character in this movie.

Another shout out goes to Maya Erskine, also known as "Jane Smith" on Amazon Prime "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" who acting sensibility added great balance to this movie.

This movie is for Michael Cera fans, Kristen Stewart fans, anyone having issues transitioning into adulthood, first time parents and/or soon to be first time parents, and anyone from Sacramento California, the place nobody goes and the place nobody wants to go to.

"One-to-One: John & Yoko", is the story of art winning on all levels, plus a John Lennon concert in IMAX.

Yoko Ono and John Lennon are the true example of a creative power couple that used their creative freedom for the good of what was right during the early 70s after John left the "Beatles."

This mosaic of a docu-concert gave us the spirit of Old New York, love, style, and that fire spirit, especially Yoko; that woman is a force.

The saying is true, "behind every powerful man, there is an even stronger woman." We must thank Yoko for letting us in to her and John's world, but more for her wholesome energy standing next to such a force in John Lennon and keeping his legacy alive.

John Lennon is and was a messenger. I feel the "Beatles" wouldn't have stayed together no matter what because John needed to deliver his message to the world, and if you really listen to his post "Beatles" music you can hear that message loud and clear.

This docu-concert was an absolute treat for all creatives, so if you need creative inspiration, no matter the field, check this out. The music is one thing, the message is an even better reason to go see it.

"Drop", is the story of how every psychologist and or psychiatrist has been made; healing past trauma, and then making a career of it.

Imagine being a Mom trying to hit the dating scene and have to off your date, produced by Michael Bay, that was "Drop." Michael Bay camera sensibilities were seen throughout this movie to make a first date seem much bigger than it really is.

"Drop" gave us quality intermittent action, but it slowed down in a few spots, especially as the audience was getting into the dialogue of two people trying to make a connection on a first date, the "cool tech" kept slowing down the pace of the anxiety and tension that really happens in those moments.

"Drop" gave all the cool tech words, and gave a few app ideas for all my ambitious techies out there, but it's the emotional rollercoaster we all experience meeting new people, mixed with the nerves first time/single parents feel about the safety of their kids when away from them that gave this movie it's sweet spot.

This was a Blumhouse Production, the production was kept simple, the locations were minimal, all effective telling the story.

This movie is for Michael Bay fans, anyone with a dating app profile, new parents, and anyone who has read "Psychology Today" at least twice this week.

"Today is the Dayyyyyyyyy."

"The Woman in the Yard", is the story of ability.

Sorry Blumhouse, but this was definitely a story through the "non-person of color" gaze. From the dialogue, the "parenting style ", how the subject matter was presented, and when you read the credits, they had a "Cultural Consultant" on staff.

Dear Hollywood, suicide is not a Black and Brown people thing.

(***Love and Respect to those who have lost loved ones through the act.)

People who have been put in the position of being the "Downtrodden" of the world, endurance and or the "in spite of spirit" even through the absolute bullshit circumstances placed upon us throughout the centuries is more of our bag.

"The Woman in the Yard" wanted the audience to think a Single Black Mother would take her own life to better the future of her kids from the pain and suffering of knowing their mom killed Dad because she was "unhappy in the relationship": nahhhh, Black Women aren't weak, just continuously overlooked, and yet still have made major strides.

(Sorry to the current generation with all the suicide and depression movies that have hit theaters as of late. Hopefully Hollywood will get out of this emotional manipulation bag they've been showcasing and get back to real storytelling, and or get more creative with the storytelling because they're always rehashing the same old stories just in a different form.)

Looking at the production crew, I see why they needed a "cultural consultant", which is just a fancy word for, "non people of color trying to tell a story using people of color and circumstances that people of color would never put themselves in."

The positive side of this movie, if you're a fan of the art of movie making, this movie gave exactly why we all watch movies, the use of light and sound to tell a story. This movie gets an extra star and "like" because of the use of light and shadows, the use of sound, to heighten the sensibility of what they were trying to get across.

The 100+ year history of the art of movie making is all over this movie, so if you can step back from what "they're trying to say" and get into the technical part of this movie, "chefs kiss" to the DP Pawel Pogorzelski , and "chefs kiss" to the Gaffer Drew Frazier.

This movie is technically beautiful, it's just the message of the story they got wrong or should have used different characterizations.

This movie is for fans of the technical elements of filmmaking, film students, and fans of BlumHouse productions. Quality attempt at a message, the execution and they're judgment when it came to the cultural significance of the subject matter was just a little off.

"A Working Man", is the Ultimate "Girl Dad" movie, with Jason Statham's moral com leading the charge.

This movie is for all "Girl Dads", time to hit the gym, the armed forces, Muay Thai classes, or Krav Maga classes, whatever it takes to protect her.

If you're looking for a Jason Statham movie that stays on brand with all his other movies, this is for you. I guess Jason Statham says, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" with his filmography.

Sorry, I don't have more for you on this movie because if you've seen "The Beekeeper", "Wrath of Man", "Safe", or "The Transporter", you might think to yourself watching this movie: "wait, I think I've seen this before", and you'd be right.

"Don't worry, I'll take care of it."

"The Alto Knights", is the story of wanting out, but first, tying up loose ends.

Robert De Niro stays in his comfort zone with this drawn out art piece of great lighting and fancy classic vehicles gangster story.

Studios now have free reign to tap into true events and create fiction. This movie wants us in with the bosses to hear their plan, but the movie is so drawn out, we get tired of the conversation.

Yes, the names are real, surnames only, and New York has a legacy with crime family surnames, but Robert De Niro didn't need to add another one of these projects to his roster. I guess the cool body double technology studios are using for actors to act against/with feels like the only reason the studio wanted to make this movie.

Shout out to the Archive, Lighting, Wardrobe, and Classic Auto teams on this project. Classic 50's New York big money style is a nugget for fashion fans. Rich people in New York in those days dressed up to take out the trash.

Have fun with this movie if you want to hear and see a glimpse into old New York. The character of New York was researched, and it showed.

This is for Robert De Niro fans, fans of Technical Production, specifically Lighting, fans of history, and fans of everything New York. Enjoy the nuggets, we all know the story.

"It's an opportunity for immortality...."

"Death of a Unicorn", is the story of My Little Pony getting revenge for killing baby pony and trying to sell Unicorn juice.

Jenna Ortega definitely signed onto this project before Beetlejuice. This might have been one of those projects that actors take so they can get good with the studio, or just need work since acting checks are fickle.

Is it me or are they turning every childhood memory into a horror story? Kids these days can't imagine unicorns, teddy bears, and dolls without blood and guts attached to the story, what else do kids nowadays have to heighten their imaginations?

Whatever strand of marijuana the people who produced this was smoking that said this would be a good idea for a movie, " the duchy upon the left hand side", because they must be smoking some good good. At least the characters in the movie got to taste the rainbow.

Side Note: If this wasn't for my demo (a sensible adult with a good pallet for a good story), someone let me know and I'll be okay with knowing this movie just wasn't meant for me.

Sorry, these jokes gotta fly because this movie lets me know A24 needs to chill out. As a studio they have been on a major run over the past few years, but now they're starting to produce everything and anything they think might stick. I don't think it's a smart idea to keep throwing movies at the wall to see which ones will stick, moviegoers still want quality over quantity.

"You have to do something bold in life or no one will you...."

"Magazine Dreams", is the story of wanting something that will accept you, something to be apart of, so you can be seen in life when the world/home doesn't care.

Jonathan Majors gave an Oscar worthy performance in this movie. Now we understand his "broken genius." Anyone who had to get into the emotional headspace to play a part like "Killan Maddox" has to be flawed in real life, that's where he's pulling from, "broken genius."

This movie gave us the careless world we live in front and center, and what it does to people stunted by childhood trauma, who find it hard to function like "normal people." When people grow up in environments that are unstable, having something or somebody to hold onto or be seen through is a yearning. For "Killian Maddox" bodybuilding was that thing, until it didn't love him back.

Dear White People, this is Hollywood's need to subject the black body once again. For a deeper dive, this movie gave every touch point of society's fixation upon the black body, the love and hate of the black body, and a need to believe it's white excellence black and brown people strive for. This was shown with "Killian's" idle being a white bodybuilder, although we've had Ronnie Coleman, Chris Dickerson, Flex Wheeler or Kai Greene in the world and were all at the top of the field.

This movie is for fans of top tier emotional acting, Jonathan Majors fans, fans of characters trying to make it through life beyond the trauma they've experienced, and people who believe in excellence, or doing something that could potentially get them there.

"Locked", is the story of all Tesla cyber trucks if you don't make your payments, or Elon and the DOGE crew see you haven't paid back your student loans yet but you own a Tesla.

"Locked" is Sir Anthony Hopkins in his "Fracture" bag, and takes justice into his own hands when a car theft (Bill Skarsgård) tries to steal whatever he can find inside. Of course the car theft is only doing what he's doing because he's down on his luck and a deadbeat dad.

This movie is a glimpse into what every vehicle in the future will do when car companies take the power back, not just Tesla, and control every aspect of your vehicle experience. Tech security for vehicles will be next level. Your vehicle will shut down completely if stolen, if people stop making payments, or insurance companies your car dealer for lapse in payment.

This is a dude movie. Yes, the movie wants us to care for the deadbeat dad's circumstances, but like Sir Anthony Hopkins' character, we the audience just don't. And that's only because we don't get to know the character, just the circumstances that would lead him down a rabbit hole of crime.

Where this movie did win was with the camera work. Think "Phone Booth", but inside a jeep. The creative use of the camera work inside such a tight space, gave this movie an extra star.

Now that Education is democratized, our effort now should be towards opening doors to possible ideas of what can be our future. I'm all for more representation coming to the cultural evolution party.

"The Penguin Lessons", is the story of finding courage, when life could be simpler if you didn't. Based in the backdrop of a Argentinan communist fight, a maestro is brought back to life by a penguin. Attachment theory at its finest, this movie gave us the lesson of stick with those that help you, and fight as much, and as hard as your spirit will allow. Some people are bears and lions, others are sheep and goats, they all have a superpower, use them when an opportunity to help others come up.

Starting the week with a sensible movie is all right with me. The political exploration dulled a bit of the story, but the human/nature connection kept the heart warm. Mondays should always be something that will help our week ahead.

As for story, character, and the timing, this movie wanted to educate, and lay down insight at the same time, but the better direction should've stayed educational, since most of the audience may not know Argentina's history.

If you were looking for a deep dive movie, check out "Opus." This movie wants you to deep dive, it's antidote heavy. If you listen, the John Malkovich voice is convincing. Now I know who plays opposite in a Morgan Freeman "God" voice versus the "Devil" voice movie, John Malkovich (no disrespect, but you hear it).

The only nugget I can offer you from this movie is give it at least 63mins in before real action starts, the first half are the Malkovich gems they try to draw at us.

Ayo Edebiri surprised me in this, and it was a good surprise. Her characters sometimes have similar mannerisms, but in "Opus" she gave a little of those "pause thought faces", but once the action started, she made us a fan if you weren't already.

"Don't ever mess with my marriage..."

"Black Bag", is the "who-done-it" story that used some cool catch a liar tricks, but held the audience hand trying to explain the "who-done-it" part.

This review gets an extra star because of the acting, but as far as a "who-done-it" story, this movie, like most Hollywood movies coming out, it just doesn't trust the audience to figure out "who-done-it" on our own, so there was a lot of hand holding with wordy dialogue that didn't need to be in a spy movie.

We did get an aged, and refined James Bond in Pierce Brosnan, and acting legend Cate Blanchett, both leading a cast of clean cut Euros (with all due respect of course).

As for a "who-done-it" movie, Soderbergh gave us some great camera and lighting work, especially the lake scene with the camera showing us above and below the surface, and a quality lighting scene with Pierce and Cate at a Sushi restaurant, but still giving us more dialogue heavy scenes for a "who-done-it" movie.

This movie is not "Ocean's Eleven", although every character does have a cool party trick, with no character arch for any of them, they all come off as cold as I guess spies should.

For a spy movie, it is too wordy, and tries to explain too much to the audience through the dialogue versus let us develop our own "bullsh*t meter" to try to figure out who the "mole" might be. But like a new mother, versus mom on her third kid, too much caution was taken and there was no belief in the audience to figure it out without all the wordy dialogue from our cast.

This movie is for Soderbergh fans, Cate Blanchett fans, Michael Fassbender fans, and anyone who like movies that "walk the dog" for their audience, versus trust we're smart enough to figure out the plot.

"Purple Rain" is the semi-autobiographical story of Prince, and the title track was inspired by the song "Ventura Highway" by the group "America." Bob Seger and bandmate Wendy Melvoin fueled the lyrics, along with the circumstances Prince grew up in.

Now, this moment is dedicated to Apollonia, the beautiful and talented performer that has inspired every female singer on your playlist right now, whether they know it or not. The chemistry Apollonia and Prince had makes this a rewatch, in addition to the music.

"Novocaine", is the story of a loner with a cool party trick, just don't make him eat solid foods, he might eat his tongue.

Now after seeing this, I have to ask: does "the idea" of pain come in different forms? Our lead could not feel physical pain, but being a loner brought another type of pain to his world.

So my question to you, the reader and leave a comment if possible: would you rather not feel physical pain or not feel psycho-emotional pain as your life party trick?

"Novocaine " could've been a different type of action movie if the writers understood what they had as an idea. Even down to their genius in having the character create timers for himself to make sure he went to the bathroom.

But.......

As a spectator, I wanted Jack Quaid's character to use more of the biomedical scientific knowledge the story hinted he acquired, to understand his real power in the world versus us mortals.

The writers didn't understand, people with rare diseases or disabilities really want to understand their world, so there is an acquired intellect when it comes to understanding their bodies and or their condition. The writers didn't understand that if this character had a rare condition, it would've been more fun to have the character showcase his intelligence about the science of the body and use this knowledge to his advantage when getting the story to the finish line.

Yes, as a society we hate looking at those that don't fit our mold of what it means to be "normal", but when seen with caring eyes, we might get to experience some dynamic people if given the chance.

This real story showed the humanity in a family that didn't have all the buttoned up answers to life like most movies want us to believe the characters we watch have, but that's what made it a quality experience to watch.

"The Monkey", is the story of the other side of karma; with a drumming monkey.

Shout out to horror movies that make fun of themselves inside the movie, while trying to tell a complete story. This movie had its funny moments, especially the creative ways to "off someone", but then the story dragged when body parts weren't being blown up.

If you watch this movie appreciating the darkness of comedy and where it comes from (hint: tragedy), this movie will have you laughing about 60% of the time. Comedy is dark, or at least the best stuff is, so a drumming monkey getting people "off'd" is funny saying if you see where this could go (😜).

This movie is for anyone who laugh when everyone else is told to cry. This movie is a cynic's playground. Have fun with this one, just comedy and tragedy are two faces on the same coin.

Cheers!

"This is our home, you two stick together."

"The Last Black Man in San Francisco", is the story of loving where you're from, while watching the history and stories of it move away. The beauty of our homes/locations we come from, come in the form of all the history they hold, and the sense of pride of ing on that knowledge to the next generation, if.......

This story shows the real detriment of the "gentrification" of historical neighborhoods, causing them to lose their souls.

Check out this early movie in Jonathan Majors career, and watch genius on display. I had to revisit this gem, in the wake of his new movie "Magazine Dreams" coming to theaters, so we all can experience and appreciate Jonathan Majors genius beyond anything that went on in his personal life.

This movie is simple, the complexity comes in the history of a place, the people of that place, and what these people have to endure when times change and they are not ready to receive what's coming to the neighborhood.

All improvements to any neighborhood is well worth it, but for most black and brown people the word "gentrification" has a negative connotation because they are most likely the ones that are displaced in order for the improvements to be made, ultimately being priced out of their neighborhoods.

The story speaks to the times in which we're living in, as the line between the"haves" and the "have-nots" are clearly being drawn as I write this is.

For those who don't understand the history of the neighborhoods they move into, take pride in the discovery and historical context in the places you move to and the people who've lived there before you. That is how you show respect to the people that have lived in these neighborhoods for generations, versus just looking at the price.

This movie is for my creatives, for my culture lovers, for my architecture lovers, and anyone who want to see quality acting on display from a simple but powerfully messaged story.

"Let me know how much holding onto the past cost you."

Screen Unseen for 2/17/25

"My Dead Friend Zoe," is the story of holding onto the past and pushing forward through the pain.

Salute to All Military Personnel
Thank You for Your Service!

When we hold onto trauma, it's the release that gives us meaning, creating in us an "in-spite-of spirit." This movie gave us military life, post duty. And like NFL players, our other violent sport, doing service is a lifetime commitment. On President's Day, you can't get a better marketing/word of mouth day for a military movie.

This movie is for trauma bonders, those who like to share their hurt stories to whomever will listen, but finding a solution is never the goal, the fun is in the pain. Those who want to move forward from painful moments, be in the moment with that pain and see how that moment can make you better. "What don't kill you, makes you stronger" is a real thing, if you want it to be.

Cheers!

"All we did was reconstruct Black Music." (Robert Plant)

"Becoming Led Zeppelin", is the journey and cultural significance of a British band that took the world by storm by reinterpretting black music, making it their own, adding a little British style and flavor, all while at the height of the cultural revolution of the late '60s.

(Rest in Musical Power Drummer John Bonham)

The benefit of attending the theater this year will be seeing all in-theater musical concerts, and or biographies of past musical artists that some of us, a lot of us were too young to know the backstory of, but definitely a must see to enrich every music lover's musical history knowledge.

Everyone knows Led Zeppelin, have heard a commercial with their music, have heard their music play in multiple movies, most don't know the full story of the group, but this docu-concert transports every audience member to the mid-60s UK, with a distinct reference to Black American music by most bands coming through the rock era.

And, if you want to see past reminisces of real rock stars you definitely want to see this.

This docu-concert, although it's telling the story of the group, there are a few classic live performances during the documentary, that if you can get to a theater that has a quality sound system, this is a must see for all my music heads.

This docu-concert is for every creative seeking a muse, this is for my music lovers, this is for my fashion lovers, especially lovers of the mid-60s early '70s UK style, this is for all rock fans who what rock stars were really like, and this is for anyone trying to school the next generation on quality music, make sure you start with the origin of blues and folk music, especially by black and brown artists because your favorite rock band most likely got their inspiration from all the quality black music that came through the American Zeitgeist.

Come to this docu-concert with your ears open, and lose your soul within the music, for a quality outing.

Cheers!

Black Girl Magic + Science =
🍿🏆

"The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster", is the story of Frankenstein reimagined in the likeness of an intelligent Black Girl using her smarts to resurrect her dead brother in the name of science, but......

Shout out to this movie for pushing a classic in a new direction, showcasing Black Women in Science. With book intelligence, and "Street Smarts", director Bomani J. Story gave his audience a way to connect with a classic story for a new generation. This is the movie that lets you know, if you want to be a filmmaker, it's not about the budget, or where you're from, it's about the creativity in your story and doing what it takes to get it seen.

This was an unlikely gem to watch given the title, which probably would've gotten more attention if it wasn't for the title because it's the story of Frankenstein reimagined. We all know the story, but framed with new context, I have to salute Bomani J. Story's creativity because the classics should be reinterpreted and refreshed for a new generation to connect with.

(After watching this movie, I would encourage all my creatives to go back to the classics in literature and try to frame them in a new way to make it more interesting for current times.)

This movie is for my science junkies, my lovers of classic literature, creatives needing inspiration, Black and Brown Women who love STEM or want to get into STEM, and any up-and-coming filmmaker. Storytelling is about the creativity in your project, and how you frame the world in a way that's new and fresh, not about the budget.

Wakanda gives you wings....

"Captain America: Brave New World" is the story of getting the team back together, but first, this movie.

Welcome to the glue movie to bring back the Avengers. Yep, we spent 2hrs watching Anthony Mackie and sidekick Danny Ramirez fly around trying to save the world, only to find out, this movie wasn't their real mission, but to be the glue in getting the Avengers back together.

In Marvel fashion, we get cool tech, CGI better than most studios, and a quality Marvel cameo to connect the dots, and push the Universe forward.

Shout out to this DEI movie, especially on Black Love Month. Since Marvel will probably cut all diversity from their superhero movies going forward, appreciate this homage to what diversity looks like. Anthony Mackie acting chops hold the movie together, but it is a little light, even for a Marvel movie.

This movie is for all Marvel fans, Anthony Mackie fans, Harrison Ford fans, and anyone who loves watching a diverse cast. This might be the last time we see a well rounded cast across a cultural spectrum, so enjoy it while it lasts.

Cheers!

If you want to know what the real purpose of ChatGPT and Social Media in the long run is for...."Love Me" answers that exact question.

"Love Me", is the story of tech harvesting our data to become more humanized, but they need our participation.

(Google is not a search engine, it's a data harvesting tool, every inquiry you make in the search bar is adding to their database of information to harvest from.

Just like Meta is not the new version of the telephone to connect people, it's a database to collect and store personalities and likenesses to be used well past those who share the information are even on earth.)

Humans have become the new intellectual property of our tech giants that we use everyday.

(Think of it as the moment in the "Matrix" when we see rows and rows of pods being harvested by machines. What we share are those pods.)

So understand that well past our life on earth, our likeness will be a commodity of tech companies.

(Wow, Where's my tin foil hat?)
🤪

Although they tried to frame this as a love story, the underlining theme of this story was the information we humans are giving tech companies, is information being harvested to make computers more human, making humans obsolete.

This movie is for my Tech Conspiracy Theorist, Kristen Stewart fans, "Minari" star Steven Yeun fans, and anyone who uses ChatGPT or any other AI tool. Since movies try to glimpse into the future, or show us what's coming down the pipeline in society, all I would add is: don't be so eager to share all your information online because your information is not being used to help you make connections, it's being used as a harvesting tool to make the "idea of You" a commodity like oil, corn, or wheat.

Cheers!

"If you want to change....you can, but it takes work."

"Love Hurts", the story of Cane and Abel, with Oscar Winners. Shout out to Ke Huy Quan and Ariana DeBose for their effort in trying to make this movie entertaining, especially after winning the highest award in their field, and yet had to show up to work for this project.

This movie left one question, after winning an Oscar, do you have to take anything, or is it like sports, when you win the award for being the best, the industry now has to pay the new rate for being the best, and they may be reluctant to?

Ariana DeBose has brought the heat to all the roles she has played, too bad the projects she has been in, feels like having Meryl Streep play in your local elementary school play. The skill versus the projects just hasn't matched.
("Kraven" , "Love Hurts", "Argylle" and "Poolman")

Although short (83mins), the action is fun from our unlikely heros, and the acting is as good as it can be with the story being told. Shout out to the music scored in this, at least their are a few Shazam worthy tracks throughout the movie.

(Save this movie for Discount Movie Day or Ladies Bring the Date that made you pay dutch, and order every snack you *ever* wanted.)

This movie is for my action movie lovers, you'll get 35mins out of the 83mins in pure action, the rest is trying to get the story to the finish line.

After seeing this, can we just let love win? All the movies during "Love Month" is speaking to anything but.
(LET LOVE WIN!)

"I don't hate you...just the idea of you, makes me feel so replaceable."

Scream Unseen / Mystery Movie for 1/27/25

"Companion" , is the story of the future; loving human technoids, so we don't have to love ourselves.

The ideas behind the tech in this movie just showed the possibilities of what OPENAi can do with a few more billions to invest with. Replace the analog human emotional ability with artificial love.

Hey Humans, Hollywood and Silicon Valley hate our human emotions and they are working to replace it. Forget replacing jobs, they're showing us what replacing emotions and difference looks like. Agreeable bots is what we humans were missing, and Zuck & friends are working to replace us needy humans; soon.

"Presence" , is the story of dealing with grief, or the humanity in which grief brings upon us.

And Lucy Liu.

Shout out to the camera work in this movie, that is the main character, the camera work, I mean "the entity."

This review is short only because this movie is in one location, centered around one family, and other than getting some reverb camera work, I'm not sure what else this movie brought in regards to the purpose of being made. It wasn't a horror movie, cuz there is no horror, it wasn't a suspense movie because we follow the camera work, I mean "the entity", in the perspective of "the entity", so what else was there left about this movie?

This is your Captain speaking....

"Flight Risk", is the story of protecting the witness at all costs, even when you're 3000 feet in the air, with a bald Mark Wahlberg.

Directed by Mel Gibson, this movie felt like our guy Mel Gibson needed to hand something, anything into the studio to get that next project, so using Mark Wahlberg as a marketing tool to sell tickets was smart.

The highlight of this movie was seeing it at the Regal Movie Theater in their 4DX moving seats experience. The seats move with the movie, so as you watch, the seats mimic the movement of the plane, which is fun once you get use to it. That's about as much fun you'll have with this movie, so if you can experience it at a Regal Movie Theater that has 4DX, do it, it's a fun time.

(This is not an Ad for Regal Movie Theater)

This movie is for my Mark Wahlberg fans, fans of flying, and fans of "That 70's Show" star Topher Grace. Everything happens in a plane, so think of this as the plane version of the movie "Speed."
