room decor in Argento films is absolutely to die for, particular kudos to the Italian twink den that's around for like 3 minutes
an additional, possibly unpopular opinion is that between this and suspiria, the Goblin score here is even better

A product of Roosevelt's Resettlement istration, "The Plow That Broke the Plains'' was conceived to inform the average American of the plight of the countless Okies and Arkies driven to migrant status and subsequent destitution by the greed of big agriculture, which transformed the landscape of the Great Plains beyond recognition due to mechanised uncontrolled methods. A triumphant score and a booming, preaching narrator voice ensure this average American that what came to be was the fault of the bad guys that came before and that FDR is now here to get it fixed ASAP.

In Litan the only shade of red is a violent crimson which, in comparison with the location's muted exteriors and gloomy interiors immediately marks it down as a portent of grave danger. The confusing oppressive atmosphere, a frequently mentioned cross of Silent Hill and Wicker Man, never lets down. This complete lack of context or explanation for the events of the film - the actions of the town's inhabitants behaving almost like a symbiotic hivemind even before the weird zombie-ish twist, and moreso the reasons for the protagonists' place in the story, the question of "why are they even there?" - make for an extremely entertaining watch. The absolute lack of a vfx budget which led to the bizarre eye shots was the definite cherry on top.
Definitely takes the mantle of "weird vibrant, style-over-substance eurohorror" that I will beg to show people from Suspiria.
]]>The novel's better but this was still worthwhile, don't think I've ever watched a film that was so effortlessly fast-paced - the runtime honest to God felt like half an hour. Trainspotting the film streamlines a lot of material from Trainspotting the book, nevertheless the departures from it are nothing but effective for a movie format - the cast of the original novel could be argued to be a bit cluttered whereas no such issue is felt with the memorable performances from Danny Boyle's adaptation. Particularly loved Sick Boy in this one, definitely helps that Jonny Lee Miller is quite surprisingly attractive here.
]]>One of the original weird movies ever, the exemplary manifestation of surrealism in cinematic form. It's a delightful collection of original random images in rapid succession, countless new ideas - armpit hair-stealing and eye-slicing included. Nevertheless, I'd still treat it like everything else Dali created, appreciate the provocative images for their aesthetic values but look at any attempt by the author to give them meaning with bemusement.
