I won’t lie, I still struggle attention-wise with silent movies even when they have a central protagonist and linear, Hollywood-style plotting, so the avant-garde storytelling and ensemble approach here (to a piece of geopolitical history I have little understanding of, to boot) was always going to be a challenge.
