2011

You stupid film, why did you not end when you were supposed to? Other than this tiny detail, it is a fine experience.

The premise is exciting, when the film began I was not sure in which direction it was going, it feels like a mix between Unbreakable (2000), Groundhog Day (1993), and later on Edge of Tomorrow (2014). Very mysterious, surprisingly original, perhaps as mind-blowing as Inception (2010). Sadly, the scientific idea is vaguely presented, and the writers decided to force a contrived romance in the story when it did not need it. Also, the whodunit could have been more suspenseful, and it required some twists and turns to keep the audience guessing. If you watch carefully, it is fairly obvious who the bomber is, near the beginning of the film.

Overall, it is an above-average sci-fi picture. Worth watching due to the always excellent Jake Gyllenhaal, the reliable Michelle Monaghan, not a particularly challenging performance though, and the exciting, if ever ridiculous, unrealistic, and unscientific premise. All I wanted was a good ending, not that nonsensical, awful coda, that completely obliterates the story. Expectations subverted, yay.
