All We Imagine as Light

What a delight to rewatch this, in cinemas. I suppose I don't have too much to add to my previous review beyond the fact that I appreciated the tender, beautifully calibrated visual aesthetic all the more on the big screen - the hugging of the rice cooker, the Mumbai streets, the cave, that beautiful sequence at the end at the doctor's den - and Kani Kusruti's wonderfully expressive eyes that bring you through Prabha's arc - I didn't give her performance enough credit last time around. As beautiful as this film is to look at though, I think what is most essential to it is the use of music which always has this calm, loving way in which it takes your hand and gently guides you through its world. And that ending really is one of the most satisfying endings in any film in recent memory. Nothing showy, just letting you sit and reflect and flow all over you. And what's great about this film is the story and all the interactions revolving around the journey of these three women is compelling, but you also just love spending time hanging out with them.

And now having seen both, much as I really enjoyed Anora Kapadia was robbed of the Palme.
