I found this one to be a real mixed bag unfortunately. There are a number of great scenes that were really effective and gnarly, but the connective tissue between them just wasn’t quite there. I think the movie holds its cards for way too long and I got pretty bored for a bit in the second act. It does look and sound really good though and the actors do a good job. It has some cool ideas and honestly feels like this one is the first movie and Talk to Me is the second where they leveled up.

Really enjoyed revisiting this one. Strikes a great balance between being entertaining and also having something to say.

This did not go how I was expecting in the best way possible. I absolutely loved how Garland used the premise of a Civil War more as an extremely affecting backdrop rather than the thematic driver of the film. Seeing a movie shot almost exactly how an American film would shoot a foreign conflict but it being set somewhere I’ve driven through really added a layer of tension to the whole thing for me. Can’t wait to revisit this once all my fingernails grow back.
