]]>bitter mouth ❤️
]]>One must imagine Sisyphus as Penelope cruz carrying this movie on her fucking back
]]>need to rewatch to form a more concrete opinion. so many threads with so much room to pull
I tend to have a negative bias towards multiverse narratives because it lowers the stakes of any situation and allows less room for a complete world. those issues (especially the stakes) weren’t really glaring here, and I think that’s because it didn’t actually feel like a multiverse… it felt like one other world with little doors between parts added almost as an afterthought.
the jumps between “worlds” more felt like a vehicle for showing the best of what miyazaki has done and can do (which yes, he’s earned). terrifying images of war and destruction, silly little guys, silly scary guys, the coolest woman you have ever met. it would be easier to criticize this if it wasn’t all done so compellingly, so new, here.
i had so many hopes going into this and still have so many coming out
]]>it takes a special movie to make me feel nostalgic for suburban New England
great soundtrack/score!
]]>they put 3 of my favorite things (Crosby stills & Nash, stalker, and women) into one movie and i somehow hated it

]]>i have never seen a more terrifying depiction of weaponized female vulnerability… stomach turning
also underrated genius move to set in 2015, right before me too, and sidestep paint tired by numbers discourse
]]>i love it when a genre movie completely omits one staple trope…

]]>Genuinely fine.. i did not feel the soul here (you can’t have a genuine Chevy commercial in the middle of a film and not feel a little ripped out of it)… also the ken stuff WAS funny but ultimately felt like a vehicle for 2017 hack girl comedy bits like “i went on a bumble date with this guy and he could NOT stop talking about his BOY INTERESTS!!!” I for sure enjoyed myself at some moments, am curious to see how this ages but I do not suspect (especially given the music/ pop culture references) that it will be great
