incredible. viscerally beautiful. i sobbed for most of the movie.
biggest crime is the PS2 graphics (like every other blockbuster now), and the lack of stakes in the performances in act 3. otherwise, this is achingly sweet and well-made. it also feels like it was written by Roald Dahl in a way that neither of the other two adaptations totally tap into.
if we’re going to keep rebooting old IP forever, i think this movie is a landmark achievement in sincerity.…
banger. knockout. obvious. pop canon. one of those things that feels like it’s always existed. Ryan Coogler believes in the power of film, and he's cracked how to make a crowd-pleaser without sacrificing any integrity. this cast is on fire — handily the best performances by all of the MCU actors that Coogler pulled over (Wunmi Mosaku especially, oh my GOD). perfectly written, shot beautifully, fresh, fun, and fast.
