Seen in Imax.
"And the Emperor said... nothing."
The first of many lines and scenes that will stick with me for a LONG time.
A lot has been said about this movie, the way it adapts the book, and the things it leaves out. And sure, there are many things left on the cutting room floor I would love to have seen.
But I want to talk about the things this movie adds to the story of Dune, to make it a story all of its own.
How much depth it adds to the Fremen, and Stilgar, showing us their delightful humanity as people thriving in the harshest of condition.
How it completely rewrites Chani, my least favorite aspect of the book because of her lack of agency compared to Paul, to stand on her own and challenge him.
How its vision of the Harkonnens and Giedi Prime is about as book inaccurate as can be, yet is so delightfully creative and insane that the black and white arena fight is not just a highlight of this movie, it's a highlight of any movie to come out in 2024.
There's so much I absolutely adore about this movie. I can forgive its small flaws easily. If you have not seen this movie or it's predecessor yet, either as a Dune novice or a longtime fan, watch it as soon as you are able.
These movies made me a fan of Dune, and I'm so incredibly happy they were made.
