]]>Amazing! These movies never hold back when it comes to technicality. It’s splendidly performed, the action sequences are executed to the fullest degree, and the music is just fantastic. This movie also has greater stakes than the previous installments, and I absolutely love the concept of the ULTIMATE villain being a rogue A.I. system. However, I do sorta think this movie suffers from that “Part One-itis” thing. It purposely reserves a lot of information for part two, and it consequently dwindles the stakes to a degree. I’m also not a fan of the way this movie is shot either. Too many dutch angles for my liking. Regardless, I AM READY FOR THE FINAL RECKONING.
]]>Oh, so THAT’S why people say this one is the best one. Good to know!
]]>Putting Christopher McQuarrie on deck surely made this film and the ones that followed go WAAAYYYYY harder. Truly a technical marvel from start to finish. Unfortunately, the flow is kinda off and I was incredibly disappointed at how reduced Jeremy Renner’s role was in this.
]]>Loved this one! Stylistic filmmaking from Brad Bird, entertaining from beginning to end, and exceptional performances from the cast. I love that Simon Pegg was given a more prominent role in the next installments because he undoubtedly adds a lot more charm to these movies. Also enjoyed the addition of Jeremy Renner, who also commands a physical presence on screen likewise to Paula Patton.
]]>Fun! But still very formulaic with a slight more emotional stake to it.
]]>FUCK. YES.
Marvel, you officially have my attention again (for the time being). This is a probably the most charming, subtle, and thematically meaningful film that the MCU has released in the past couple of years. I never thought these characters could reach the height to where I would love them, but… here we are!
]]>John Woo: “Put some slow-mo there!”
Editor: “Why?”
John Woo: “Because… slow-mo!”
]]>Really good! It wastes no time in jumping into the story, and is relentless momentously. Character-work isn’t quite there but Tom Cruise provides a lot of subtle emotional and physical dynamics to his character. However, I do think the story kind of convolutes itself for the hell of it.
]]>Fellow Senators, friends, colleagues, allies, adversaries. I stand before you this morning with a heavy heart. I’ve spent my life in this chamber. I came here as a child. And as I look around now, I realize I have almost no memories that pre-date my arrival and few bonds of affection that cleave so tightly. Through these many years, I believe I have served my constituents honorably and upheld our code of conduct. This chamber is a cauldron of opinions and we’ve certainly all had our patience and tempers tested in pursuit of our ideals. Disagree as we might, I am hopeful that those of you who know me will vouch for my credibility in the days to come. I stand this morning with a difficult message. I believe we are in crisis. The distance between what is said and what is known to be true has become an abyss. Of all the things at risk, the loss of an objective reality is perhaps the most dangerous. The death of truth is the ultimate victory of evil. When truth leaves us, when we let it slip away, when it is ripped from our hands, we become vulnerable to the appetite of whatever monster screams the loudest. This Chamber’s hold on the truth was finally lost on the Ghorman Plaza. What took place yesterday… what happened yesterday on Ghorman was unprovoked genocide! Yes! Genocide! And that truth has been exiled from this chamber! And the monster screaming the loudest? The monster we’ve helped create? The monster who will come for us all soon enough is… Emperor Palpatine!
- Senator Mon Mothra
]]>Let this film serve as a GIANT reminder for why you should go to the theaters. I may have not been fortunate enough to see this in IMAX, but that isn’t to say the experience didn’t hit the same. Michael B. Jordan is quite literally one of the greatest actors that has graced the current generation of cinema, and his performance is 100% due for some awards. Ryan Coogler’s filmmaking is the best it’s ever been. From beginning to end, this film just oozes astounding production value. Ludwig Göransson also gives his best musical score… and yes I mean this wholeheartedly. The combination of blues, with electric guitars, synths, and modern songs is unlike anything I have ever heard before in a film.
[STAR WARS REWATCH - 2025]
]]>Remarkable, simply remarkable. What is there to be said about Andor that hasn’t already been said? It takes a massive leap in tone and presentation even for the typical standards of Star Wars, sticking the landing almost perfectly. It angles what we know about this universe in a whole different way. The force of good is riddled with conflict, tragedy, and sacrifice, an aspect that makes the force of evil more detestable than they originally were. From a filmmaking standpoint, this show is nothing but pure and absolute cinematic value. Everything ranging from the visual effects, cinematography, set design, and sound design are masterfully crafted together that it even outshines most of what was shown in the films, which is a testament to the talent that was put behind this show. Truly astounding in almost every regard, and it undoubtedly cements itself as a landmark in the Star Wars universe.
[STAR WARS REWATCH - 2025]
]]>Probably the only Star Wars film that I feel the same way about, which is by no means a bad thing because this movie is an absolute delight. It’s a non-stop entertainment ride with a rather decent self-contained origin story for Han Solo. Alden Ehrenreich perfectly encapsulates the charisma and mannerisms of Harrison Ford to a tee. I also think this movie pulls its seriousness and wacky cards at the appropriate times too, nothing feels disted tonally. Regarding criticism, the whole thing with Enfys Nest felt out of left field for me, and I think their whole ordeal was a rather cheap narrative device for Han’s development.
[STAR WARS REWATCH - 2025]
]]>This rips to an EXTRAORDINARY degree. The common man would look at this and label it as “unnecessary” but this film is more so experimental than it is trying to be impactful in the grander narrative of Star Wars, and it manages to succeed on both fronts well beyond than it should have. Almost everything about this film works. It introduces a narrative element that was never seen in the Original trilogy, and that is the imperfections of the Rebel Alliance. It assists in broadening the concept of “Good vs. Evil” that this universe stands on. It subtly leans into a more grounded subject matter that suggests that the good guys have some crunch time on their hands, something I am glad it accomplishes because it’s why stories like Andor are able to exist. This is also by far one of the most entertaining Star Wars movies, with the third act delivering some of the greatest action scenes that have ever graced the Star Wars universe. The filmmaking behind it all is also borderline perfection, and I am so mad Gareth Edwards never made another Star Wars film.
[STAR WARS REWATCH - 2025]
]]>Extremely frustrating. This film is a great example of what happens when you listen to the people who hate your movie, instead of the people who love your movie. Not only does Abrams completely erase what The Last Jedi set up, he does it so aggressively that you can quite literally feel the mindset he was in through the screen. Given that, the narrative feels heavily rushed and disted, and the fact it utilizes BAD fan service to hide it just makes it feel worse than it already does. Only reason it’s not rated lower is because the filmmaking is quite literally amazing. I give Abrams a lot of shit but, like Rian Johnson, he really does know how to make a movie pop.
[STAR WARS REWATCH - 2025]
The sequels were the driving force behind this rewatch. I really wanted to see if my fully developed love for film would change my view on these movies, especially this one… and it did, FOR THE BETTER! I love almost everything about this film, and even to a greater degree compared to when I watched it years ago. It explores the themes of failure & not letting the past define who you are, and almost all of the characters embody that amazingly. It also presents the Force in a more nuanced manner that also drives the dynamic and conflict between the characters in a more compelling way. In the past, characters would always say the spiritual mumbo jumbo - “Use the force, search your feelings” but now I get to see that acted out, AND I LOVED IT. This is also one of the best directed Star Wars films. Say what you want about Rian Johnson but this dude certainly knows how to make a movie. I still have the same criticism such as the Canto Bight subplot slagging, and Benicio del Toro’s character being eh. Although, being able to see the finer details of the movie just makes it easier for me to look past all of that.
]]>I am aware of how polarizing this film, and it isn’t without reason. It’s an acquired taste, it challenges what you normally expect from Star Wars. Some see it and embrace it, which is okay! While others see it, feel it’s to unrecognizable, and stray away from it, WHICH IS ALSO OKAY. This movie definitely challenged what I expect from Star Wars but it does it in a way that engages me whilst staying true to the Star Wars that I love.
[STAR WARS REWATCH - 2025]
]]>If you’re one of those people who says “THIS MOVIE IS JUST A REMAKE OF A NEW HOPE.” I’m just going to assume you’re a blundering dumbass with no media literacy. There’s a fine distinction between a remake and a homage, this film serving as a prime example of the latter. It homages a lot of the narrative elements of A New Hope in order to remind us that Star Wars is actually fun, and that’s what this movie is… FUN from beginning to end. The prequels left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth, and this film serves as a remedy to that. However, it’s this aspect alone that is detrimental to this movie’s rewatchability factor. Once you acquire this film’s taste, it’s quite easy to spit it out because you become so familiar of what it brings.
[STAR WARS REWATCH - 2025]
]]>Ok I’ll it it… this movie is pretty cool. There’s a lot more focus on Anakin’s fall to the dark side, and that focus presents a lot of interesting narrative concepts such as Anakin’s unbalanced faith in the Jedi, the blatant hypocrisy within the Jedi council, and the dynamic between Anakin and Palpatine. Unfortunately, this is where the movie falls apart. These concepts should’ve been disclosed in the very first movie, and developed as the movies progressed, not just here. Cramming all these narrative elements into one movie makes everything involving Anakin’s eventual fall feel very sudden and unconvincing. It’s still a fun movie but I still believe people are giving it way more credit than it deserves.
[STAR WARS REWATCH - 2025]
]]>I used to this think this was the worst Star Wars movie, but now I just think it’s on the same level as The Phantom Menace… which still isn’t a good thing. The characters are boring, the writing is all over the place, the performances are non-existent, and the visual effects really remove a lot from the experience. However, I kinda realized this movie is more attuned with the Star Wars tone that I personally enjoy so I guess I’ll give it that much.
[STAR WARS REWATCH - 2025]
]]>Sorry but even in retrospects, this movie doesn’t hold up. Did it broaden the scope of the Star Wars universe? Yes. Did it open the door for many story opportunities? Absolutely. However, I think where this particular story goes wrong is the vision. In the original trilogy, George Lucas understood and exaggerated the fundamental concepts of “Good vs. Evil” into a fun and engaging story. Unfortunately, with this movie and the two that come after, it feels like George thought he could direct the tone into something more complex and grounded… but it just doesn’t work.
[STAR WARS REWATCH - 2025]
]]>Way better this time around. Seeing Luke here compared to how he was in A New Hope has got to be some of the greatest character development in the history of film.
[STAR WARS REWATCH - 2025]
]]>A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… A FUCKING MASTERPIECE HAPPENED. There are so many films that have topped the original but none have done it like The Empire Strikes Back.
[STAR WARS REWATCH - 2025]
]]>Truly one of the greatest and most influential films of all time. Easily what makes this movie so amazing to me is that it shows so much of its vast world yet still gives us hints of its potential.
]]>Unorthodox, and extremely abstract. Definitely not the Bong Joon-ho that I’m used to, but still a really good movie with a performance from Robert Pattinson that is definitely due for some awards.
“Why you walking alone? Are you a big fucking loser?”
Cast Kieran Culkin in more movies, and let Jesse Eisenberg make more movies.
]]>]]>Fresh, creative, charming, and genuinely funny. Definitely one of the best comedies I’ve seen in a while.
]]>I will never understand Hollywood’s need to just desaturate every color they see. Still love this though.
]]>The exploitation of the elderly genuinely pisses me off so I was already hooked on whatever Thelma was doing. Truly incredible and quite honestly unexpected.
]]>As someone who absolutely hates vampire movies… this was fucking incredible.
]]>One of the greatest endings of 2024. Truly remarkable on a writing and technical level.
Oh man… my little heart couldn’t take it 🥹.
]]>No wonder people hated Daredevil after this.
]]>“I ain’t afraid to die anymore, I’ve done it already”
Emmanuel Lubezki > Roger Deakins
]]>I don't even want to talk about this movie, I just want to talk to the person who came up with that ending and slap the shit out of them.
]]>HOLD ON A SECOND. You’re telling the main actor, Izaac Wang, is Laotian… like me? YUP AUTOMATIC FIVE STARS.
]]>But in all seriousness, this movie really hit close to home. I have never seen a film that captures the “growing up” experiences for Asian-Americans so organically.
Never would I have imagined that I’d see The Penguin be explored in a story like this. This is an absolute masterclass in storytelling, writing, acting, and filmmaking. The Reeveseverse is looking strong now.
]]>Wasn’t expecting to find my Best Actress pick in this film but… here we are.
]]>Been slacking on 2024 releases lately, so I thought I start catching up… right as the year is ending. Anyway, THIS WAS FUCKING AWESOME BRO. Anya Taylor-Joy is absolute rockstar and I never thought I’d enjoy Chris Hemsworth in a villainous role.
]]>Always had a soft spot for this one, since it’s one of my favorite Stephen King stories. The cast is really good, Bill Skårsgard is masterful as Pennywise, and it stays true to the essence of the book.
]]>Casting aside some of the corny and on-the-nose cliches, Superman: The Movie is the definitive blueprint for a live-action Superman film. Christopher Reeve embodies the character to a tee. He’s charming, and exudes the positive energy that I expect out of the Man of Steel.
]]>This movie kind of reminds of this awesome 2013 Kaiju action film “Pacific Rim” except this film doesn’t have interesting characters, stylized Jaegers, or even an engaging story to follow so idk why it’s calling itself “Pacific Rim: Uprising”
]]>A truly epic film with timeless visual effects and an iconic musical score that also knows how to teeter between its human characters/drama and its awesome action sequences. Shame it never got a sequel though.
]]>I. LOVE. THIS. MOVIE.
]]>That was probably the fastest 100 minute movie I have ever watched.
Grade B+
]]>This went insanely hard. It relies heavily on the predecessor but still manages to push out an amazingly-written story with an incredible ending. However, I sort of wished Apollo Creed was fleshed out more and that Adrian didn’t look so miserable around Rocky.
Grade: A-
]]>Truly amazing on all fronts.
]]>Watched on Tuesday November 19, 2024.
]]>YOU. ARE. A. TOY.
Still amazing after almost 30 years.
Grade: A
]]>I typically don’t review/rate documentaries but this was really good! It really shows the harsh brutality and lingering corruption of Russia’s government, as well as the impact a single individual can have on a country. Though I kinda wished they leaned into more of those implicated details about Navalny as a person, instead of constantly shining him in a positive light… he was a politician after all.
]]>Rewatched this and made an educated wish that I’d like it more, but fortunately (or unfortunately?) I think my opinion remains the same. It’s a batshit crazy film that prioritizes over-the-top entertainment over story… and I’m absolutely okay with that!
Grade: A-
]]>I don’t care that this came out last month, I need a sequel… NOW!
Grade: A

I also realized that many films on my old list were merely films that I enjoyed upon viewing but slowly grew to forget about as time ed.
