Pretty sure most of the folks dragging this are so tapped into meme culture that they made up their minds about it before walking into the theater. And/or they're in the last stages of superhero fatigue, which is fair. I've only seen, like, three Marvel-related movies in the last five years, but this is one of the breezier ones. The script's a mess if you want the endless exposition usually found in these types of films, but I don't watch them for coherence. This one's silly, it's fun, and it climaxes in a fireworks factory!
This is my second try at this one. I couldn't finish the first episode last time. I got through episodes one and two this time.
Wikipedia helped me to understand that the first three episodes are chapter 1/this movie. Episodes four and five are chapter 2/the sequel movie, Legend of the Demon Womb. The visuals to "Falling" are entirely close-ups of merchandise in a Twin Peaks gift shop. It's one of the great instances of fan culture self-reflexivity, and it's the perfect capper to this unique, outsider's view of American culture.
Maybe it's because of the start of autumn, but I found myself in a such an upbeat mood on my walk over to the theater to see The Night House that I had to stop and question for a moment if I was in the midst of some sort of manic episode. Naaah.
