The Alien series is a sea salt brownie. The 1st two bites are orgasmic shocks to the brain, the next four bites can be enjoyed but never like the first two and then right when you think you've had enough, you lick your lips.

Alien: Romulus is the isolated salt that repurposes the flavors on your palate, reminds you how good the ingredients are, and releases enough dopamine in your brain's reward center to abandon your belief in the concept of portion size.

This brownie might've finally hit a new ceiling. That lip lick may never be duplicated. Still, the delectable chance is too good to up. I'm gonna need a glass of milk because my big back tendencies are now on 10.

More of THAT, please!

Anyway, the amount of work that went into this doc's opening is astounding. Instant 5 star rating. As it went on, with all that's included in it, I still felt something was missing. They focused on major moments but I feel like there might've been more. 50 years in 128 mins is kind of impossible, to be fair, and they pretty much pulled it off.

Far out!
Rock N' Roll, baby!

More crowd shots would have been beautiful but damn. Every member is a wizard and they're all having so much fun. Guitar tricks I didn't know were possible even 45+ years later, theatrics, and raw talent. It's funny hearing Delp (R.I.P) call some of their debut album songs "oldies" barely 3 years after their release. Gives me the sense that even in the 70s, it was possible for time to move somewhat fast, relatively.

Anyway, incredible rock show in my backyard 12 years before I was born. This recording doesn't seem as old when I think of it like that. 12 years is nothing. 2013 feels like yesterday.

The only thing wilder than the premise here is the dialogue. There are moments where the humor bubbles to perfection and holds for 3 scenes in a row before it gets so dark that you wonder how jokes were considered for this script in the first place. We always find out what Bret Hart felt about being stripped of titles but what about Yokozuna? He was truly robbed. No one talks about that.

Everyone knows that the WrestleMania bug persists until after Monday Night Raw so once the show officially ended earlier, I jumped right into this documentary.
In 2014, the WWE Network made it convenient to access over 40 years of archived wrestling Pay-Per-Views and TV programming and I went nuts. Starting with the first WrestleMania, I watched every PPV I could in chronological order. By the next year, 10 years ago now, I made it to the most visually unique WM to date: WrestleMania IX.

It was my first time watching it and I knew nothing about it but the look and vibe of Caesars Palace that day, thanks to clips from WM montages. 10 years later, I had forgotten even who wrestled aside from the main event and one other match that sticks out in my mind as one of the memorable ones. Lex Luger Vs. Mr. Perfect.
I have to imagine it's because most of the card was fluffy and the spectacle overshadowed the in-ring work.

This documentary opens with an epic set-up and like my blurry memory of the event, the payoff is mostly fluffy. The intro gives the impression that the behind the scenes footage captured that day in 1993 is must-see. The doc ends up being a recap of the event with only some behind the scenes stuff worthy of being shown. In an odd way, it's fitting for the quality of PPV that WM 9 was.

What makes this 'Mania memorable are the optics of it. Reliving it in documentary form lends to the way it's viewed in hindsight. All the good parts are cherry picked and given backstory and altogether, ends up being a fascinating watch, much like most WWE produced docs. This made me want to rewatch the entire event for vibes alone. On top of positioning it as the turning point for what would become a yearly spectacle, as the title suggests, (even though the following 8 years would return to indoor arenas) it also props up the show to seem on par with the 8 that preceded it and even a few that came after. (We don't talk about WM 11)

Anyway, this was fun, those WM IX hats are cool as hell, and talking to Linda McMahon is the calmest I'd ever seen Macho Man.

All the women are dishy and the dudes are all "I fink I'm overdew for a bit of a hair trim, innit."

A good movie can either be corny or cheesy but it can't be both. To me, Love Actually is a sack of unshucked corniness but some of the moments are really great. Despite how unrealistic, and for some, how fleeting their "stories" are. Though it's through them that the point of the movie is driven home even more, arguably. Whether your heart breaks or skips around the one you wish for, love actually IS all around. In different forms. The movie achieves this message by the end, at least to me.

As a spoiler despiser, I do appreciate when movies disarm your expectations of what the "climax" is early. Leaving you open for anything it throws your way. (As long as it's done creatively, of course.)
Like metaphors and... everything else this film had to offer.
I would take a peaceful 60 minute epilogue, please and thank you.

...And then I made this beat: The Movie

My jaw dropped when they get to Pharrell's first major contribution to a song. I had no idea he was a big part of such a classic.
What isn't shocking at all is why he's regarded as one of the greatest producers of all time. Hit after hit after hit and they all sounded so good here, almost as if he remastered every beat for this movie. Timbaland is my GOAT but that still means that before even thinking about it, two Virginia producers rest in my and most's Top 5, unanimously.

Something in the water indeed.

Ah, the early 2000s. When music videos "premiered" only after a half hour behind-the-scenes special that spoiled the entire video.

Why was Paul Stanley dick-n-butt with Mila Kunis? God, it's like everyone was weird.

Anyway, this special is now as old as the 70's were when it aired. Hunkering down to watch it with commercials included was its own bonus nostalgia. Shoutout to people who post full recordings on YouTube.

Here we go again! This year, the focus is on feature length films. Docs will most likely be included to an extent, concert films potentially... and maybe a short will slip through the cracks. We'll see! Here are my first-time watched highlights of 2025.

  • Door

Off the tippity. The first watch of the year and of Japanuary 2025 and it's a banger! The reality that was answering the door back in the day. Any time before smartphones, really. It came with a level of trepidation. A feeling that is felt twice over today. Watching this now puts you instantly in the protagonist's feelings, no need for further understanding. A woman is home alone with her little boy and someone knocks on the door. In 80's Japan. (For whatever reason, 80's Japan was particularly sketchy in my mind. If I'm wrong, I blame movies.)

But yeah. Simple premise, atmosphere, and... yeah. Enjoyed that.

  • Perfect Blue

...and then there's the complete opposite. An animated, demented, ball of confusion that makes you think and barely becomes clearer the more you do. That shit is fun as hell too. Not the movie itself. It's dark as shit. But the mindfuck you experience throughout makes you go, "fuck. ....what the...? .... CINEMA!"

No surprise there. This one is widely regarded as peak, for lack of a better term. Still, impossible to brace for something like this.

  • One Cut of the Dead

When a film starts off so awkward, you think it will end up being one of those movies that people learned to love over time... and then you slowly start to understand why it's an instant hit. For lovers of filmmaking, horror, zombies specifically, silly humor, ingenuity... this one is special. In the smallest, intimate, creative way. I love it.

  • FireAid Benefit Concert

My reccuring obsession with Queen's Live Aid set always gives me the urge to watch that event or any benefit concert of that magnitude in full. So when I discovered that the recent LA fire were being aided by the proceeds from one that was scheduled to live stream on YouTube, I felt like it was the perfect chance to sit and really take in the effects of the disasters and live in the present moment.

The format worked, with little down time between acts, some big names, and beautiful music. Live concerts are still the best way to discovery music and artists unfamiliar to you. The songs have a different energy and watching them performed live give you a different appreciation for them. It's an even better feeling when your favorites are played and you can lose yourself, even at home through a TV screen. All for a good cause.

  • WarGames

Anyone else get a kick out of watching old films with one or more actors that you've known all your life, but only from their works as adults? You can give me the shittiest movie ever but if I recognize a face and it's a movie from their younger days, I'm already intrigued. Not to say this is shit at all, I'm just saying that it didn't need to try that hard to be fun for me.
Here, we get old tech and young actors in a weird ass movie that tows the line between fun adventure and stressful shenanigans. But like, when you're young, you can do shit like this and be fine so it's not too worrisome. Idk what the fuck I'm saying, I enjoyed this, obviously. Like many movies of the past, the themes in this feel relevant specifically in the last couple of years so that's fun too. In an existential fun stressful adventure shenanigans way.

  • The Wild Robot

Did not have plans to watch this movie even with its nominations. Just from sheer ignorance when it comes to modern animated films. Thanks to the Peacock app's great promotion of new-to-streaming titles, I eventually felt bullied into pressing play. 😂
Only to be bullied by my own emotions. Out the gate, we've got an interesting situation and fun character moments. You're following along unknowingly growing a fondness and before you know it, you're onto your own tears for dear life. I fought. I lost. My face glistened with soul moisture. Wtf.
Beautiful experience. If you don't feel anything watching this, I would be shocked.

  • Misery

Almost hit 20 years of being aware of this movie and that one scene but never watching it. A 10-second clip so gruesome, that it somehow made me believe nothing else could happen THAT memorable in all of its runtime. As idiotic as that is, this movie managed to surprise me with how much more happens in it, mostly because I thought that one scene happened at the very end. Nope! This is a whole ass Stephen King adaptation, I should have known. And it's all hilarious to me. As fucked as it is, I think this is worth a rewatch strictly for laughs. For starters, that little ass crash did not cause all that injury 😂 and who didn't see that opening coming? MFer was speeding down a mountainside road fully snowed on. Damn idiot. 😅

  • Heretic

    Thinkers with you'll-miss-it-if-you-blink...ers.
    My favorite.
This movie grabbed my attention early and didn't let go until the final shot, to which I reacted with more sitting still and staring at the TV in thought. Furrowed brow. Just trying to keep my head from spinning. Thought I was following very closely and still managed to make me theorize by the end. That's the type of stuff that gets a revisit not too far into the future. Very much looking forward to that.
    ...with blueberry pie next time.

  • Assault on Precinct 13

The director and the fact that the poster is red. That's all I knew going in. Didn't even look closely at the poster. So, when John Carpenter's signature... -whatever he's known for- was felt, it was a good time. Quippy lines, atmospheric score, surprisingly calm characters in panic-inducing situations, and did I mention quippy lines? Borderline ridiculous-but-tense fun, in a "I'd be freaking out if I were them but I'm cozy in bed having a blast" kind of way.
I often associate 70's cinema with stoic dialogue and minimal physical acting but it might be my limited knowledge of the era. Feels good every time I get closer to debunking that for myself.

  • Piece By Piece

Something about Jay-Z's mannerisms on stage that this movie nails so hard at the end. I should know.

Didn't know it was a straightforward documentary style biography until about 10 mins in. I was waiting for the voice acting and it never came. Felt kind of amateurish at first and then you accept it because you kind of have to. The music knocks so hard and the LEGO presentation is so appealing. Had a good time bobbing my head as this film took me down memory lane. These records followed me through my life as a music lover. Every artist that made a cameo, I've had a deep connection with their entire catalogs. Still do with most of them. This is the film equivalent of "easy listening." Easy-watching, I guess we can call it.

It's time. Taking on my first ever yearly challenge. ing kynky's annual "52 Years In 52 Weeks." Personally deciding to cap it at 52, even if completed early in the year. My catch and only caveat is to make it the last 52 years, specifically.
1974-2025

The year of release for a given film can get tricky on this app, with some movies being delayed, premiering at festivals months in advance, getting a full digital release after a limited theatrical run, etc. To simplify matters, my picks are solely chosen by the year listed next to the film's title. For example, if a film didn't see a theatrical release until 2025 but Letterboxd says it's a 2024 film, it will enter the list as a 2024 film.

Probably a non-issue for most but trying to keep the list as consistent as possible.
Here I go!

Progress: 29/52

First-time watches that either were exceptional, thoroughly enjoyable, or had a significant impact on me personally this year, in chronological watched order.

  • House

Nothing could have prepared me. No amount of non-spoiler word of mouth, clip, or still could or did give me even the slightest clue about how much I would enjoy this. I need the blu-ray yesterday. Stalking the Criterion Collection sales at Barnes & Noble this year.

  • The Rotten Fruit

Wtf? The best, most foul cartoons were so short lived and this reminds me of them. A full season or more makes my "Things I'd Make Happen with a Time Machine" list.

  • Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping

The Lonely Island do not miss. Ever. This was great fun.

  • Your Studio and You

Genuinely impressed with how many stars participated in this. Memorable because of it, quality goofy shit because of Trey and Matt, obviously.

  • Return to Krocodile Isle

Love it when you throw anything on and it turns out to be fantastic. Anything DK is a good time for a fan but this li'l musical was a great time.

  • Empire Records

When you see a poster and hear a movie title for years and years and never gave a shit because it sounds kinda whatever and then you sit at your desk and just press play one day because fuck it and then your inner music lover slaps you for being a late ass bitch on good, warm 90's weird goodness and young Renée HELLO! ...

  • Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

Holy shit. I vividly the TV spots for this movie being shown while watching WB 11 or Fox 5 or whatever channels I had on every day. The title stuck with me, having no concept of what Chinese films could be. Fast forward to present day and with proper context, still having my mind blown by this movie... What a fucking feeling. The choreoooo! Can't wait to watch this again once I've forgotten most of the details. Can't believe I waited a quarter of a century to watch the movie with the title I never forgot like if it was some pop culture phenomenon.

    Wait...was it?!!

  • Out to Punch

Maybe I just don't watch the oldies but goodies nearly enough anymore but watching Popeye get his ass beat for stressing Bluto out for doing what he's supposed to do to win a fight made me appreciate Popeye as an IP by the time he whipped out some spinach and got his ass. Never put Popeye up there with my favorite classics like Bugs Bunny or Tom and Jerry before but I'm thinking I was wrong not to.

Ok, I'm not just thinking. I am acknowledging this.

  • 10 Things I Hate About You

Sitting at my desk with headphones and putting on Empire Records gave me a great, cozy movie experience I thought wasn't possible without a couch and a big screen. I wanted to replicate the feeling to the point of going with another 90's comedy and considering only watching cult-ish classic-ish easy, comfort food-ish movies teens lived and died by when I was younger. 10 Things I Hate About You was just added to Hulu so I bit down and I gotta say,... I loved it. Maybe I needed a break from horrors, thrillers, and sci-fi. But maybe girly favorites are awesome too.
    Idk, I think...maybe I really just love movies. 😂

  • The Greatest Night in Pop

What can I say? Every doc that comes out about this iconic night in music history needs to be seent. If not for potential new deets and/or footage, then to see Michael Jackson's reaction to the messes around him again. Never gets old. Truly.

A list of my favorite movie of every year since my birth year.

  • Hook

What can I say about this classic except that the SNES game was hard and that I had clunky, off-brand 18 inch 1/4 scale Captain Hook and Peter Pan action figures that I would make fight on a top bunk bed? Hook was that movie growing up.

  • Reservoir Dogs

My introduction to Tarantino and it didn't disappoint. My deep appreciation for films that take place in a single setting (for the most part) began here.

  • Carlito's Way

Full transparency: The skits on Jay-Z's Vol.2...Hard Knock Life album was what eventually drove me to watch this movie. The glorification of the mob/gangster life becomes less appealing the older I get but a story of a career criminal wanting to get out of the game hits the sweet spot. Whatever happens isn't taken lightly and we the viewers feel the gravity of the protagonist's situation. Without thinking, I'd say this is my favorite De Palma film.

  • The Lion King

    Hans Zimmer's score...

Drop this in any year, any decade, doesn't matter. Landslide victory every time.

  • A Goofy Movie

My elementary school would have family movie days during weekend. They would project a movie on the cafeteria wall and my dad took me to watch this when I was in kindergarten or 1st grade. I adored it since.

  • Space Jam

I think people forget what Space Jam was like for kids back then. We wanted the Looney Tunes to visit the real world so badly. No one was cooler than Michael Jordan at the time and for us, he became even cooler once he got to ball out with Bugs Bunny and them. I take full credit for this gem. Wearing a Sylvester sweatshirt and a Chicago Bulls hat for my 5th birthday 9 months before the film came out could only mean I did this. I basically birthed this movie. I deserve something.

  • Selena

Selena was such a staple in my household, that by the time this movie came out, I knew the words to her songs. 6 years old. The most vivid memory of watching this in theaters with my dad and his parents was my grandma getting up at one point and walking out. I never knew why but the memory of her storming out, seemingly overwhelmed has remained fresh. As fresh as Selena's untimely death still was at the time of this release. Grandma was too upset to finish the movie. Looking back, I didn't understand how angering this story is, I was 6. This movie does a great job conveying how tragic it all was and it allows me to travel back in time now to feel the feels my elders felt in real time. It still hits.

  • The Truman Show

I grew up a Jim Carrey impersonator. Ace Ventura's mannerisms were basically my hidden talent. Didn't pick up on his serious stuff until much later. This might've been the first one of them I experienced. Guy reached new heights in my mind which seemed impossible, being steadily in my top favorite actors really early.

  • South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut

The opening scenes of this movie is so parallel'd to my experience trying to watch this in theaters at 8 years old, it's ridiculous. The opening number is goddamn biographical. I lived it. Obviously, I had to wait til I came to Pay-Per-View and that's where I would watch it 2-3 times in a row at a time and memorize it from beginning to end. It was the funniest shit I'd ever seen and a huge chunk of it was imperceptible for young minds. I just liked the surface level silliness. It's why it aged beautifully, despite the late 90's references that this movie is dripping with. It's tied with The Lion King at #1 for me.

  • Scary Movie

You'd probably get canceled quoting this movie today but when this shit dropped, the way culture was, this was the future of comedy. To kids my age, at least. Not knowing much about parody movies. Scary Movie and Scary Movie 2 was the strongest one-two punch of rewatchable, BS, laugh-out-loud, tasteless comedies and probably still holds the crown.

A list of my favorite movie of every year that decade.

  1. The Empire Strikes Back

Hard to snub The Shining. Hard to beat Episode V.

  2. The Evil Dead

Makes you wanna call some friends, grab a camera and some lights and make your own scary movie, don't it? Top 10 horror films ever, in my opinion.

  3. The Thing

Arguably the best remake ever made.

  4. Return of the Jedi

Such a Star Wars simp. I've developed some feelings about Scarface over the years that knocks it down a few pegs. I'm getting old.

Flashdance deserves a nod for "What a Feeling" alone.

  5. Purple Rain

Move over, A Nightmare on Elm Street and The Terminator! 1984 was Prince's year and there's nothing anyone could've done about that. Not even Michael Jackson. Elm Street and Terminator are incredible and leagues better than Purple Rain, I'm painfully aware. We're talking favorites.

Now, why don't you purify yourself in the waters Lake Minnetonka?

  6. Back to the Future

Perfect. Quite literally a perfect film. Never gets old.

Special shout-out to After Hours. Such a weird and eventful movie. Oh, and The Breakfast Club...and Re-Animator...and Teen Wolf...and Fright Night... and Rocky IV and... it just keeps going. '85 was great!

    Btw, never seen The Goonies.

    ...I know.

  7. Aliens

Had Ferris Bueller’s Day Off in this spot and then I watched Aliens for the 1st time.

    Yup.

  8. Evil Dead II

Almost apologized for not going with The Princess Bride and going with Hellraiser instead. Both classic. Not as fun as Evil Dead 2. Love this series.

  9. Bloodsport

Three things in life are certain: death, taxes, and Bloodsport airing on TV on weekends. Couldn't not like it.

  10. Batman

Why do people like these movies? I don't understand.

  • Dune

Pretentious is not the word. Nothing about this movie is for me. Can't imagine it being for anyone, really. Apparently, it is. I don't get it.

  • Mad Max: Fury Road

This movie is a technical marvel and no one can take that away. That's all I can say about it, good or bad. It's that mind numbingly pointless in every other sense.

  • The Big Lebowski

Watched solely because it's held in this light as one of the best comedies. In what universe? The best scene earns a chuckle at best. I don't hate it but I definitely don't get the hype.

  • The Village

To be fair, saw it in theaters and not once since. To be even more fair, that's on purpose. At the time, it was a snoozefest and quite ridiculous. Since then, I've come around and opened up to the idea of rewatching it to see if I was wrong. Until then, I stand firm in believing this film is a dud. I'll either be swayed or vindicated.

I'll do it for Bryce Dallas Howard.

  • The Purge

It's the concept people are attracted to. Fine.

    ...

It's not good. It's just not.

  • Batman Begins

    WARNING: CONTROVERSIAL 😱

I tried. This movie is boring. Some say it's the best in the trilogy. Laughable. I don't doubt this is a well made film. I do understand why people like it. I just can't get behind it. It's NyQuil. Maybe it will click one day. Until then, I just can't sit through a Batman movie with virtually no Batman in it.

Should've been called "Bruce Wayne F'd Around and Found Out

  • Halloween III: Season of the Witch

This entry doesn't make sense because the vast majority of horror/Halloween/movie fans know this is a travesty. There are still a population who appreciate this movie for what it is, which is ok. That's great. My brain doesn't let it go. I ask myself "why?" The decision to make Halloween an anthology moving forward after Halloween II is an amazing idea that I would have loved to see. Especially knowing what we ended up getting. The Thorn Trilogy and Resurrection are god awful. But the fact is, this movie sticks out like a sore thumb once Michael Myers returns and is a shame within the context of the series. But because so many dislike it already, I'm able to respect how people can go against the grain and like it as a standalone with a concept that's not completely terrible on paper.

    ... Why tho? ...

  • The Devil's Rejects

The amount of people that enjoy this absolute waste of resources gives me diarrhea. Took me almost 20 years to watch House of 1000 Corpses and when I did, I wondered why I took so long. It was solid. Good stuff for a directorial debut. So I thought, "The Devil's Rejects was his next one? I that title from back then. I should jump right in to that"

No, I shouldn't have. Rob Zombie, wtf is this? Fuck this movie, I hate it.

  • Dazed and Confused

I understand what movies like this are supposed to do and upon my second watch, (because I surely must've missed something) I recognize that it in fact does what it's supposed to do. But then why do I feel like I'm still missing something? This movie is largely uninteresting. Colossal sleep aid. My farts are more eventful.

We've reached the end of 2023 with 300+ films watched. Some great, some ass. This is a list of the stuff I watched this year that I consider to be the highlights for either being exceptional, thoroughly enjoyable, or having a significant impact on me personally. First-time watches only, in chronological watched order.

  • Everything Everywhere All at Once

Exceptional, thoroughly enjoyable, AND had a significant impact on me in many ways. Fired on all cylinders. 'Nuff said.

  • Watcher

Chilling. In the way that sticks with you and if it doesn't, it definitely is effective in the moment. Worthy of being added to my blu-ray collection eventually.

  • The Menu

Not the best or all that impactful personally but it's pretty crazy and memorable for its sick shit.

  • A Hard Day's Night

As someone who thinks The Beatles are overrated but respect and still can enjoy them, this movie sold me on them more than their catalog. Genuinely funny, I was pleasantly surprised and charmed.

  • DC League of Super-Pets

My dog looks like Krypto. That is all.

  • The Making of 'Rocky vs. Drago'

It's Rocky. No shit, I like this.

  • When a Stranger Calls

Yes, the chunk that is praised is rightfully put on a pedestal. But the rest of this movie is not given its credit. Solid. One of my coziest loner movie nights. I it clearly.

  • The Super Mario Bros. Movie

First time back in theaters since the pandemic and it was fun. As a lifelong gamer, what more could you ask for?

  • Puss in Boots: The Last Wish

That moment when you put a movie on for the little ones and you end up glued to the TV. You know what lives rent free in my head? How good this movie is without having to be.

  • Black Christmas

Cozy loner movie nights strike again. Good times.

Movies People Dislike That I Don't 2d5538 https://letterboxd.sitesdebloques.org/bigangbaracus/list/movies-people-dislike-that-i-dont/ letterboxd-list-28363291 Sun, 27 Nov 2022 18:28:01 +1300 <![CDATA[
  • Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Where do I begin? Story arc happens too soon in the DCEU timeline, villain looks terrible, the title of the movie loses meaning midway through the runtime, the boldest creative decision's merit is stripped away with the final shot,... the list of complaints people have for this movie go on and on. Some reasonable, some nitpicky. All welcomed, doesn't matter. Because at the end of the day, I love this movie. Superman has never in his MOTHERFUCKING LIFE been as conflicted internally as he was trying to continue to be a force for good while the world villainized him, not even when he treated Zod like tonight's poultry dish. Batffleck exceeded expectations and portrayed one of the best comic booky brutal Batmans (Batmen?) ever seen on the big screen to date. Have your issues with the story as well, it was coherent, it was full of great moments, and it was interesting. (See: Ultimate Edition) This movie was awesome, idc idc! I knew it when I saw it in theater 3 times and I know it now.

5 Things People Hated About BvS That Are Fine

  • Star Wars: The Last Jedi

I've never seen a movie get so much undeserved hate. I left the theater on opening night thinking that I had just watched something special. I cried when Luke and Leia had their moment. I loved how many memorable, stunning moments and visuals I had just witnessed in IMAX. I was floored. Little did I know, the next 2 years would be the most divisive it can possibly be on social media without involving politics. I couldn't believe people could be so nasty to each other over a movie, one of this caliber. It chipped away at my excitement for it. I questioned if defending it was even worth trying. Canto Bight scenes aside, Rian Johnson gave us unforgettable Star Wars moments like the original trilogy did. People are starting to soften up on The Last Jedi and appreciate it for what it is but there are still a very large vocal majority that absolutely despise it and I'll never understand that much disdain for it. Simply search "The Last Jedi" on YouTube and see how many videos trashing it exist, even now. These people affected my enjoyment for TLJ enough. I loved this movie and still really like it. It will not be affected by them anymore.

  • Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

As if The Last Jedi dividing the Star Wars fandom down the middle wasn't enough, here comes Episode IX and it just divided it further. No, it slashed the two opinions diagonally. It caused the entire trilogy to be trashed as a whole. Nail in the coffin. This less brave but still very emotionally satisfying finale (for me) made me tear up yet again and it didn't take long for my tears to be rendered a waste of fluid. The amount of disrespect given to this film is upsetting. Of course it's flawed. But damn! Can't I bask in John Williams' breathtaking, purely magical score? Can't I get choked up at Luke being Rey's Yoda or Rey filling the biggest void in her life with an underlying, powerful message? Can I just pump my fist and applaud at the fact that Chewbacca, after 40+ years of bravery, loyalty, and intergalactic patriotism, finally recieves a medal??? COME ON! This movie makes me sob like a child at times, let me be happy! FUCK!

Or don't. Go off. Tell me how much this movie sucks and how Disney ruined the most culturally relevant sci-fi franchise of all time. No, please. Take a giant shit on my final memory of normalcy, watching this in theaters right before the pandemic hit and ruined fucking everything. Please, make sure I hear how much you hate it. I need you to see how little it changes my adoration for everything in this film excluding the kiss. (shit made me roll my eyes) Still, try ruining this one for me. I doubled wookie dare you.

  • The Lion King

Notice a pattern? Disney gets trashed mercilessly online and honestly, it's with good reason for the most part. Either they're beating a dead horse to double death or rehashing their own catalogue in less desirable ways. (So, beating more dead horses) That is how The Lion King is viewed because...well, it is. Nothing will compare to the 1994 animated movie and I understood that going in. Which is why nothing people complained about with the movie was a deal breaker for me. Lions don't have facial expression so hyper realistic live action movie with lions in it should find other ways to be charming and emotionally effective. The written story already provides that. Beyoncé having a song in the movie feels a little off, naturally. But how is it different than getting Elton John to sing "Can You Feel The Love Tonight?" while cartoon lions fall in love? I mean,... Elton's song is one of the greatest songs ever made and Beyoncé's is not but the scenes are what they are. The omission of Scar's number is jarring and sorely missed until you think about how it would be executed. I personally can live with Disney making that choice in the end. I don't know. The Lion King we all love is quite literally my favorite movie of all time so I should be the one deeply offended by this but the truth is, I'm not. The animated masterpiece still exists and can never be touched so while pointless, I don't hate a live action version with amazing CGI. In fact, I plan on rewatching it.

  • Spider-Man 3

Not even gonna act like I this movie or whether it's good or not. All I know is that it doesn't make me wanna gag like it seems to make everyone else. Sophomore year of High School, I walked to the nearest theater after class with some of my Junior acquaintances. ittedly, the moments that stick out are emo Peter Parker dancing to the sound of the audience cringing and Eric Forman as Eddie Brock. Not the best way to end a trilogy but I enjoying it. Am I nuts? Until I rewatch it, I can't know for sure if I am. All I know is that everyone feels about this movie how I feel about... oh boy, here I go... the latest MCU Phase, I'm sorry. I'm sorry!

    It's so...whatever.

  • Joe's Apartment

Joe's Apsrtment being a disliked movie is a safe bet. Talking roaches isn't the most watchable thing. Here's what confuses me though. 19% on Rotten Tomatoes...84% of Google s like this movie... 5/5 on Walmart??? 5.5/10 on IMDB. Could I classify this as a disliked movie? No one seems to have the nostalgia I have for it in my personal life but apparently, I'm not alone. Still going to include this on the list for the sheer forgetten-ness of it. It's not necessarily "good" but it's way fun and isn't talked about enough in retrospect. Not as much as it should be, in my opinion. This nasty movie should probably be disliked anyway, to be fair. I can't not like it though.

A list of my favorite movie of every year that decade.

  1. Woodstock

Not sure if I saw this one specifically but I've seen all there is to see about Woodstock '69. Films released in 1970 were slim pickings, personally.

  2. Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory

    I mean, come on...

  3. The Godfather

"I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse.

  4. The Exorcist

Popped my scary cherry in theaters with this bad boy, not in the Pazuzu way. A late-night screening of The Version You've Never Seen Before in 2000 is an extreme introduction to horror on the silver screen for a 9 year old. Thanks, dad!

  5. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

The Godfather II came in the same year and what a film THAT is! The Texas Chainsaw Massacre changed a genre forever though, setting John Carpenter up with the ultimate alley oop to help 'shape' a subgenre with Halloween four years later. The actual birth of the slasher icon.

  6. Jaws

This movie is so iconic, every kid since has hummed the theme song while pretending to be a shark at the pool. 'Nuff said.

  7. Rocky

Honorable mentions: Carrie and The Omen.

Rocky turned into a much better series after this compared to those two. Back-to-back sports action popcorn flicks with montages for the ages. This is my favorite movie of 1976 over Taxi Driver and the standout in all of the Rocky series for me because it's a legitimate film with a great resonant, emotional story. Stallone knocked it out the park. A solid foundation for the increasingly memorable moments in subsequent entries.

  8. Star Wars

Didn't need to refer to IMDB for 1977. Landslide victory.

  9. Superman

So many to choose from out of '78. Only one made you believe a man could fly. Best Lois Lane on film to date too.

"You've got me..., who's got you?!

  10. Alien

Only one of the greatest sci-fi horror films ever made.
