]]>More like a 3.75 star but settling on 4 stars for the quality of Sally Hawkins’ performance alone.
Less of a “horror” movie and more an examination of harrowing grief, trauma, and cruelty across various characters; which I realize, sounds like a blast. It’s a tough sit and would have felt more gratuitous with lesser talent. Sally Hawkins remarkably manages to evoke empathy for her character despite EVERYTHING to the contrary.

]]>Somehow not as gory as I was expecting (please keep in mind that I am disturbed) but a solid amount of squirmy gore nonetheless. A great entry into the “body horror paralleling the grotesque with what people willingly and regularly do today in the service of societal beauty standards” canon.

]]>Not what I was expecting but really loved the earnestness and lunacy behind such a thing
]]>So much fun. A mostly single location thriller with the right balance of tension, humor, and kept me guessing and entertained throughout. Way better than on thought it would be based off of the trailer alone. Bonus: fodder for the former server in me.

]]>Very confusing year. I’ve come to with the fact I won’t be “caught up” anytime soon so consider this subject to change? Also it was hard to determine if some movies belong to 2020 or 2021 technically due to wonky release schedules. Thanks Covid.
