there is nothing like trying to live w something u didn’t think u could lose. this movie perfectly tells a story of grief and recovery in a way i’ve never seen before. the sound design, cinematography, and the best performance of the year by riz ahmed all work together w this poignant story to make the most incredible film of the year
it’s definitely a crazy fucking call to make a romero remake that is almost completely devoid of social commentary but once u get past that what ur left w is a pretty legibly tense little film. a couple set pieces and moments that work super well. also timothy olyphant and radha mitchell are both underrated as hell.
fede alvarez is a super interesting director because he has revealed himself time and time again to be an immensely capable director but can’t seem to stop himself from committing some sort of massive blunder to derail what would otherwise work so well. i find this genuinely frightening at points and the effects are so great but the character writing here is beyond parody. that being said i could get past all that but the decision to retain the disgusting…
