I thought the name Levon Cade was ridiculous enough, but then I saw his daughter's name was Merry Cade! What the actual fuck? These are the kinda names they give indie wrestlers once they sign with the WWE!

This is as generic as expected from a Stallone screenplay and David Ayer behind the camera. The story is all over the place, just a bunch of scenes with no real focus. The action is substandard stuff, nothing you haven’t seen a million times before. Statham doesn’t have much to work with; to say his character was one-dimensional would be an understatement. It’s full of Russians and other unsavory bad guys, all of whom are the dumbest motherfuckers put on screen at no point do you feel the kidnapped girl or Statham are ever in any danger it doesn’t take much effort for Statham to get the better of these brainless morons! One of these is played by Emmet. J. Scalan, who, quite frankly, I am fed up of seeing he’s like shite in a field turning up in every tv show on british tv! Now they're casting him in films to annoy me! even further. Overall, a below-average actioner that treats the audience like idiots, that doesn’t offer anything worthwhile, and certainly doesn’t need to be 2 hours long.

Drexl: On that TV there, since you been in the room, is a woman with her breasteses hangin' out, and you ain't even bothered to look. You just been clockin' me. Now, I know I'm pretty, but I ain't as pretty as a couple of titties.

Clarence: I'm not eatin' 'cause I'm not hungry. I'm not sittin' 'cause I'm not stayin'. I'm not lookin' at the movie 'cause I saw it seven years ago. It's "The Mack" with Max Julien, Carol Speed, and Richard Pryor.

One of the better-known Blaxploitation films, although I only have a vague memory of it, features Max Julien as Goldie, who has just been released from prison and is determined to become a pimp. Not just any pimp, but the ultimate pimp. He aims to take pimping to new heights, which he successfully achieves by winning 'Mack of the Year' at a glamorous awards ceremony. Nobody can manage his ladies quite like Goldie. He puts on elaborate shows to maintain their loyalty, much to the discontent of the local drug lord, for whom Goldie previously worked before entering the pimping game. The drug lord wants Goldie to abandon his new venture and come back to work for him to earn some real money. Naturally, Goldie refuses, setting off a chain reaction from this decision!

It’s interesting to note that Max Julien was considered for the role of Jules in *Pulp Fiction*—the story goes that Quentin Tarantino couldn’t track him down at the time. In hindsight, it was probably for the best, as no one could take that role from Sam Jackson! Max Julien does a fantastic job in this film, though. Unlike *Willie Dynamite*, he doesn’t experience a change of heart. There’s no major epiphany for him. In his mind, what he is doing is a means to an end that doesn’t involve peddling poison to his community. He genuinely believes there’s nothing wrong with his actions, even when his brother points out that he is exploiting their people for his financial gain. He counters by arguing that his actions are better than the alternative.

In addition to Max Julien, there are many familiar faces in the cast. Richard Pryor plays his good friend Slim, Richard Mosley portrays his brother, the gorgeous Carol Speed takes on the role of his main bitch, and Don Gordon plays one of the racist cops who is eager to throw Goldie back in prison. He is also known for groping the breasts that Drexl refers to in "True Romance."

Another 70s movie about pimping that doesn’t sugarcoat anything. It presents a bleak overall picture with no happy endings in sight. While Willie Dynamite, as a character, was bad, at least he recognized that his actions had consequences and sought redemption. In contrast, Goldie is irredeemable; he shows no concern for the pain he has caused to the people he claims to love.

Overall, I might not have loved this, but I did enjoy it quite a bit. Aside from the Mack awards, a couple of other scenes I adored were the pimp baseball game, featuring all the cool cats and hot sistas participating. This seems to be a common theme in Blaxploitation cinema, with characters playing baseball in their fabulous 70s outfits. I a similar scene in "Solomon King."

To answer the burning question, yes, this is the one where Sonny Chiba hits someone so hard his eyes stick out on storks. The sequel sees the return of Terry Tsurugi hitman for hire. This time, he’s not so one-dimensional. He’s not the relentless savage monster that he was in the prior film, he’s not condemning poor innocent women into prostitution or taking his frustrations out on the less fortunate. He’s quite likable. They even give him a more bearable sidekick this time out in Yoko Ichiji, who has a whole Yoko Ono/ Pippy Long Stockings thing going on.

The film starts with Tsurugi up to his old tricks, managing to assassinate someone in a police station while handcuffed, or at least stopping him from being able to talk with well-placed fingers to his jugular! He is then given the job of killing his old friend Kendo Masaeko from the first film, something he can’t even entertain. As I mentioned, he seems to have morals now, so he refuses, which then puts him on top of the Mafia’s kill list. He knows too much and has to go, This starts a chain reaction of people trying to kill the bad ass that is Sonny Chiba with his deadly punches, kicks and his ability to puncture his way through the human body with whatever item is handy they needed all the luck in the world. Even when he beds a lady, she tries to kill him with a knitting needle - he can’t catch a break. Relaxing on the slopes or in a sauna is also out of the question with killers attacking from every corner! Sonny sat on a ski lift with a woolly hat on was a nice visual, though.

I suppose you could say this was more polished than the previous film. I’m not sure I would agree. It’s not as enjoyable, that's for sure. There are some impressive fights they just lack the vicious brutality of the original, with a lot less gore on show this time around. What gore there is a little too cartoony for my tastes, not to mention the entire plot of the yakuza trying to take over Karate Dojo’s isn’t exactly engaging stuff. It becomes even more ludicrous when they have a 70’s hippy calling the shots for Yakuza lol!

Overall, it’s fine as a sequel. It just doesn't quite live up to the original. It’s still Sonny Chiba being a bad ass so well worth a watch.

It's Poohing Time.

I’ll try and start positive and say at least the masks didn’t look like total shit this time. That's all I got. I had my issues with the first one, describing it as utter torture. Was this one any better? Maybe if it wasn’t so fuckin’ boring. They introduce an entire PTSD subplot and a ludicrous mad scientist angle that was not welcome! So, they are no longer cute creatures left to rot by Christopher Robin, but experiments that have gone wrong. Yeah, this one needed less character development cos the actor who plays Christopher Robin isn’t capable of conveying an emotion if his life depended on it. It’s more of the same shite from the first one introducing Tigger and what is supposed to be Owl. With the backstory being what it is, it makes the first film even more pointless than it already was, as it makes even less sense going from being like they were merely trying to survive to raving lunatics that kill for the sake of it. I hoped with an increased budget that there might be some effort put into this monstrosity - nope, it still looks like it was made by someone who couldn’t direct traffic. He can’t frame a shot, create any tension whatsoever, and even the gore this time is disappointing, with kills happening off-screen. What the fuck was Simon Callow doing in this? An actual actor! Surely he’s not this desperate for work. So, much worse than the original and would be less painful to have my bollocks stamped on for the entire run time, maybe I will just try that next time. The bear revving a chainsaw without the blade moving was a hell of a skill, though.

I would like to say this has put me off watching any more of this public domain tripe, but who am I kidding? I’ll hate-watch all these stupid things for as long as they keep making them.

"Shaolin Intruders" is an exciting martial arts murder mystery! The plot is straightforward enough. The main attraction is the incredible martial arts, and they truly do not disappoint. The film showcases a variety of weapons, outstanding acrobatic skills, and villains who have evil laughs!

The murder mystery centers around the killings of of four martial arts clans. We meet the heroes, who take it upon themselves to discover who is responsible for these slayings. Although the evidence points to the Shaolin monks, there may be more to the story than it initially appears.

As I mentioned earlier, the fight scenes are spectacular. The film peaks when the lads arrive at the Shaolin Temple for an investigation. They must complete several tests before they can even think about questioning anyone. The bench part of the test is truly remarkable, it's a sight to behold and worth watching for that alone. Successfully ing these tests allows them to confront those they believe are responsible, leading to even more twists, turns, and betrayals. You could argue this portion of the film drags a bit. I wouldn’t completely disagree with that. Even if there are a few pacing issues, the final fight and action in general make you forget about some of the minor flaws. You will be astounded by the choreography, it's superb stuff.

I didn’t know much about this going in, and it exceeded all my expectations. It certainly delivers everything you want in a Shaw Bros flick with elaborate fights, arms being torn off, monks engaging in brutal suicide pacts, and an engaging story. Yu Po Liu was a welcome addition to the cast, too. It’s one hell of a picture.

A porno with a downbeat ending, to say the least! Your enjoyment will depend on how much you can tolerate Ron Jeremy, as he is in it a LOT. Fortunately, it's a younger version of Ron Jeremy, not the disgusting fat pig he would later become. Ron is a psychiatrist whose wife is sleeping with his best friend, and his daughter is a nymphomaniac - he spends his days helping his patients with their problems, but is unable to face his own family falling apart in front of his eyes. Not even a well-placed finger in his ass by a prostitute can help! I know it’s porn and you have to suspend your beliefs somewhat, that said the main issue with this is Ron Jeremy doesn’t look old enough to be Tigrs father they do try to age him by adding some grey to the afro he has going on. It doesn’t work. Lisa Be also doesn’t look old enough to have a daughter of Tigr's age either so the realism is out the door straightaway! With all this going on, you have vignettes of Ron turning into Crazy Joe Devola - complete with tears of a clown as he listens to classical music. The sex scenes comprise mainly of the patients of Ron telling their sordid tales, one of which is a photographer taking advantage of a new model (Tiffany Clark)l whose parents wanted her to go to school. Still, she wants to become a star. The rest are just his wife and daughter fucking anything with a pulse. There is even some overlap with mother and daughter banging the same man - thankfully, this isn’t BRAZZERS, so there is not some stepmother second-cousin situation. It’s another porno where the sex is secondary to the drama aspect - putting the spotlight on the conventional family dynamic wrapped up in an artsy farty porno. Overall, it’s an adult film that has surprised me with the creative choices and the message it was trying to make. That ending was something else. I was going to make a joke about it not being the kinda cream pie I am used to seeing in porn, then the ending took a different turn.

Phoebe Cates plays the role of the baby sister who decides to quit school and move in with her sister and her boyfriend in Los Angeles. Moving your sister, who happens to be Phoebe Cates, into a hot, sweaty house without air conditioning, while also pushing your doctor boyfriend away, is just asking for trouble, especially when you're already dealing with relationship problems. It’s not like he’s a monk!

The synopsis isn’t quite accurate; it makes it seem like she’s purposely trying to seduce her sister's boyfriend when, in fact, it’s more about falling in love with the wrong person deal. Overall, this is just your typical, overly dramatic TV movie. I don’t have a strong opinion about it one way or the other - it just about served its purpose of being good enough to have on in the background while I was doing other things.

Pooh, you've got to help me. Something's wrong with Piglet, he killed my wife!

I have to give credit to Winnie the Pooh, he made sure to rip off that one girl's top before he bashed her head into a bloody pulp. Fair play.

So, I let my curiosity get the better of me and decided to watch this movie because it surely can't be as bad as people have said, right? Wrong. It's like slow torture....sloooooow torture. This film is horrendous. The acting is so poor that I can only assume they just picked people off the street or hired women solely based on their willingness to strip off. The script is even worse, with minimal effort put into making it anything but an eye-rolling experience. Winnie the Pooh can drive a car, even though he has no concept of a car! I’d like to say this in homage to Michael Myers being able to do the same, but that would be giving the director way too much credit. Then there are the terrible rubber masks and awful CGI that won't satisfy anyone hoping for at least a decent amount of gore. Pooh does get called a Nonce, though.

If you must turn beloved children's characters into murderous monsters, at least put some effort into it. This adaptation falls far below what could be considered acceptable, displaying a complete lack of creativity, except for the drawing segment, which was a bright spot. It's a shame there wasn't more of that, as it might have made the overall experience less mind-numbingly boring. I didn't enjoy it at all. Naturally, I'll watch the sequel next.

He ain’t so much a good guy as he is a bad motherfucker - Clarence Worley

It’s hard to disagree with Clarence’s assessment of Sonny Chiba as Terry Tsurugi; he is not portrayed as a good guy. His motivations are largely financial, and honestly, he can be quite unpleasant. He shows little concern for handing over a girl to be sold into the sex trade. He is a ruthless individual who excels at causing harm to those who deserve it or, in many cases, don’t, as long as he is paid his fee.

I’m not sure what moment I enjoy more, the fella Chiba hits so hard he spits all his teeth out like Tic Tacs, or the infamous X-ray death punch. There are so many other great, nasty scenes with eyes being gouged, vocal cords being ripped out, and even Sonny ripped a raplsts cock off with his bare hands as our boy takes on an endless amount of bad guys in this nonstop sleazy violent masterpiece.

The annoying sidekick and the obvious crash dummies used in some stunts can be distracting, but they don't diminish my genuine love for this movie. By the way, that guitar riff is spectacular! That shit has me ready to run through a wall every time it kicks in.

When a Korean family are held hostage, interrogated, murdered and in the daughters case raped by some local hicks they unwittingly open themselves up to the Korean Charles Bronson who also knows Kung Fu and shit. It's a simple enough revenge story with corrupt cops, a missing suitcase of money, and a helpful stripper called Lucky.

After watching two Godfrey Ho pieces of crap in a row I decided to watch something even worse! I can always rely on Tubi for that. The main reason to check this out is simply because Bobby Kim closely resembles Charles Bronson; there isn't much else it has going for it. Only 55 people on Letterboxd have watched this film, and it's easy to understand why. The editing and acting are quite poor. One early fight scene abruptly shifts to a stripper on a pole, which was so distracting that I thought I might have a seizure. While there are some able fight scenes later on, many of them are quite ridiculous. One memorable moment is when a bartender is tortured with a pair of pliers to the nose, which looked extremely painful! If you lower your expectations, you might find some redeeming moments in this cheap tripe. I’d recommend you might be better off watching something else instead. Anything else.

This is one of the better films I've seen from the king of cut-and-paste, Godfrey Ho. Surprisingly, it's not all bad. There are far too many subplots and continuity issues. Still, you can overlook these flaws thanks to the explosive action, endless fights, nonstop gunfire, blood squibs galore, and a badass woman wearing a red leather jacket with a unicorn design. Everyone looks great in this movie. With so many denim outfits, you can't help but ire the fashion choices on display.

The story primarily revolves around Lisa (Sharon Yeung), whose father is entangled with a triad gang that she aims to take down. This situation presents a dilemma for her: should she help her father out of the trouble he has created, or should she uphold the law? Alongside Mona Lee, the film features a considerable amount of action, a lot of which is quite generic; however, there are a few impressive stunts and shootouts sprinkled throughout, even if they are not the best edited you'll likely encounter. This is to be expected from a Godfrey Ho production.

Overall, it’s nothing new that you haven't seen before, but you certainly won't be bored. It goes at a breakneck pace, featuring stunts that make you question whether someone actually got hurt. So an enjoyable watch, even if it doesn’t quite reach the heights you would hope.

That final shootout with these two bad ass women coming together a gun in each hand to blow away an army of bad guys brings a tear to my eye. CINEMA! Moon Lee and Sharon Yeung ROCK.

I couldn't explain what this is about, even if my life depended on it! It's something about ancient Ninja clans feuding and local gangsters wanting to acquire land. When they can't get it through legal means, they resort to using ghosts to intimidate the owners. It’s absolute nonsense.

While the ghosts are causing chaos by turning on taps, ripping women's skirts off, and watching them engage in sexual acts, there is also a mustachioed secret ninja trying to stop the chaos. His name is Gordon – a classic ninja name. At one point during his investigation, he uses a Garfield phone, which certainly signifies that he is not someone to be trifled with. Tragically, ninjas murdered his wife shortly thereafter. I’m not sure if this was linked to his use of the Garfield phone, but I like to think there's a connection.

If you can tolerate the overwhelming visuals and confusing effects, you might enjoy it even if you have no idea what you just watched.

There is also a character named Fanny Wong, and if you can't find amusement in that, then we must be very different people.

I should probably seek out more Godfrey Ho crap.

Who’d have thought that stumbling upon a feral woman who lives in the woods, killing her prey to survive, and deciding to take her home in an attempt to civilize her would be a bad idea? If you don’t want someone eating your heart as you watch, I wouldn’t attempt this at home.

All the men in this are horrendous human beings. So be prepared for that. The father is a misogynist who oppresses all the women in the family and might have raped his daughter. That's implied anyhow. The son is following in his father's footsteps. He is a weirdo who gets pleasure out of the pain inflicted on women, so bringing a woman chained up in the cellar is just asking for trouble. Rape and torture were always going to be on the agenda. I’m a big fan of Pollyanna McIntosh, and that's the only reason I gave this a chance. I haven’t watched “Offspring,” so as far as I was concerned, this was a stand-alone film. Pollyanna is great, the rest not so much, although when the son got his comeuppance, I was almost hooting and hollering, so he must have done his job well enough, the creepy little bastard!

One thing I will say is that the pacing isn’t the best. It takes way too long to get to the satisfaction of The Woman getting loose to exact her revenge on the people holding her captive. There is a good movie in here somewhere, but it loses focus, and maybe a better director could have steered it in the right direction in the final edit. Or at least chosen better fucking music because the loud blaring generic music in this gave me a fucking headache. Play something we know, mate! Lots of holes as well. The sister not telling her mom that her brother was torturing The Woman with pliers instead saying he was having a wank made no fuckin’ sense, makes me think there was another version of that scene that played out. Oh well.

After being forced to watch her husband being lynched, grieving widow Diane (Michele Mercier) is determined to seek revenge against the Rogers family responsible for the horrific act. She attempts, but fails, to get her husband's brothers to assist her in avenging his death, as they are disinterested following the destruction of their cabin by the same family. Consequently, she decides to reach out to a former lover who lives in a nearby ghost town.

Like many westerns, this story offers no happy endings for its characters. Fueled by hatred and consumed by the desire for vengeance, each character struggles with their darker impulses. When Manuel reunites with Diane, he tells her that revenge is a fool's errand; letting her hatred take over will lead to no good. However, Diane insists that her only concern is avenging her husband's death — she feels nothing but hatred. Despite his strong feelings for her, Manuel is hesitant to help. Although he is a skilled gunslinger, he intentionally avoids taking lives. Even when he kidnaps the only daughter of the Rogers family, he refuses to harm her, which ultimately leads to his own downfall. Hossein, the reluctant badass who puts on his lone black glove before he guns someone down, and Michele Mercier, all in black, wielding a shotgun, play their roles well.

Robert Hossein’s direction is strong, clearly influenced by Sergio Leone, as evidenced by some of the shots. There is even a dedication to Leone in the end credits. Despite this, the film maintains its own identity, serving more as a homage to Leone than a direct imitation of his work. Hossein keeps things simple with an excellent opening that conveys as much through facial expressions as it does through dialogue to tell the story. The cinematography is beautiful, with the camera effortlessly moving from one stunning location to another.

The best scene that showcases this is the dinner table sequence, which was shot by Sergio Leone himself. It is probably the standout moment in the entire movie, so effectively filmed that for a brief moment, you forget why Manuel is dining with these men. I appreciated that scene a great deal. The film also features a great bleak ending, as one might expect. Dario Argento is credited as one of the writers; however, Hossein claims he had no involvement at all. I’m not sure why he would lie when he had already revealed Leone had directed the best scene in the movie.

Highly recommend to anyone with an interest in the Spaghetti Western genre.

They made us wait what felt like forever for this movie, and you had to wait even longer for the ultra-violent action that you expect from a Gareth Evans film. But when it finally arrives, it truly delivers. The bloody club scene that erupts into chaos showcases Evans at his best, demonstrating that very few can create action set pieces like he can! That scene had me pumped—goosebumps all around! [Insert a gif of CM Punk slapping his arm here].

The story isn’t particularly noteworthy; it’s rather generic and feels like it could have been an episode of "Gangs of London." However, there’s nothing wrong with that, as the action more than makes up for any shortcomings. Overall, it may not have met my highest expectations, but it’s still a good, blood-soaked ride. Shame there is so much crappy CGI violence though. That's Netflix for you, I suppose.

Slightly disappointed that Lale (Narges Rashidi) from Gangs of London was relegated to a bit part as Hardy's wife cos she's a bad ass! I needed to see her kick the shit out of the welsh terminator Richard Harrington that motherfucker is hard to kill!

Taste my blade!

In an attempt to get through my never-ending watchlist, I decided to watch this instead of something good. Carradine on a horse in his pants, Claudia Jennings naked strapped to a stretcher being tortured by bright lights, shitty special effects, henchmen on futrastic motobikes, and lots of people saying DEATH SPORT every chance they get - just a few of the things they cram into the 82 mins of this thing.

This film is intended as a sequel to "Death Race 2000." There was originally a plan for a third movie titled "Deathworld" that never came to fruition. However, in true Roger Corman fashion, there is no real connection between the films. David Carradine does not reprise his role as Frankenstein; instead, he plays Kaz Oshay, a “Guide Ranger” who is captured and forced to participate in "Deathsport," a deadly motorbike race that has replaced the death penalty. Essentially, it’s just a brutal race for the amusement of Richard Lynch's character.

Claudia Jennings s the cast as the eye candy and shares a sort of Jedi mind connection with Carradine, allowing them to communicate telepathically. She appears nude quite a bit, which somewhat alleviates the tedium of the film's nonsensical plot. It’s not surprising to learn that she was reportedly using cocaine heavily during production; one could imagine it was necessary given the situation. Carradine likely smoked his body weight in cannabis to cope as well.

Overall, it's an overly ambitious movie that lacked the budget and talent needed to pull it off successfully. While they didn’t have the talent, they made up for it with poor special effects, nudity, and explosive action. I can only assume that Corman demanded a motorcycle to explode every ten minutes if they couldn't fit in another psychedelic nude scene.

It’s one of those films where the more you learn about the production, the more interesting it becomes compared to the actual film! Everyone was reportedly high during filming. David Carradine broke the nose of director Nicholas Niciphor. According to Carradine, the director insisted that Carradine should direct the sex scene himself because he couldn’t trust himself to be on set with a naked Claudia Jennings. Tragically, Claudia Jennings died in a car crash a year later. Ironically enough, Carradine's career died here, too.

There is a portion of this movie where poor Nina Li Chi is just having the shit kicked out of her by Chow Yun Fat and when Conan Lee tries to tell him “Hey she’s a woman” Chow replies by saying “This kinda woman deserves a good beating” before he slams her through a glass coffee table. One of those scenes played for laughs for the Hong Kong market but doesn’t translate well to a Western audience. Even less so in 2025.

This is a buddy cop movie with a familiar premise: two complete opposites are thrown together. Chow Yun Fat plays a lazy womanizer who hasn't been promoted in 11 years on the force. He has teamed up with a supercop eager to find any excuse to make an arrest. Can they possibly find a way to coexist?

It begins as an all-out comedy, although I must it that much of the humor fell flat. I watched it in Cantonese with English subtitles, so I didn’t experience the unintentional laughs that often come with an English dub. Additionally, I found Chow to be quite annoying. This film felt like a lighter version of Lethal Weapon, and it just wasn’t resonating with me at all. However, around the halfway point, after all the punishment Nina endures, it shifted to being an all-out action film featuring Gordon Liu (with hair) as an evil henchmen who kicks the shit out of our lads. There is one memorable scene between Lui and Conan Lee battling it out with chainsaws! Which is pretty damn awesome.

Ultimately, it’s a mixed bag. Despite some issues, it is still enjoyable. While the comedic elements don’t always land, the action scenes are excessively bloody and over-the-top, so it balances itself out.

Mine is the vengeance, sayeth the lord.

"God's Gun" is a late addition to the spaghetti western genre, although technically, it doesn't qualify as one since it was filmed entirely in Israel for Golan-Globus Productions. By 1976, the spaghetti western was struggling, and this film was the second of two movies shot in Israel starring Lee Van Cleef and Leif Garrett, the first being "Kid Vengeance."

Sam Clayton (Jack Palance) and his gang ride into Juno City with chaos in their minds. They assault the town's women and fatally stab an old man before leaving as quickly as they arrived. The local sheriff is a useless drunk, and the judge is a coward. Both of them refuse to pursue the outlaws, leaving it up to the local priest, Father John (Van Cleef in a ridiculous wig), to bring the culprits to justice. The gang eventually returns to town to free their friend from prison and gun down the priest, which prompts his ex-gunslinger brother to come to town seeking revenge!

Lee Van Cleef stars in a late '70s spaghetti western where he plays his twin brother in search of vengeance against a villain portrayed by Jack Palance. That concept is an easy sell for me, but unfortunately, it's not enough to carry the film. The dubbing is atrocious, as are the editing, acting, writing, and everything else. As much as I ire both Lee Van Cleef and Jack Palance, they aren't performing at their best here—Palance, in particular. I can’t help but wonder if he was drunk for most of the shoot, or perhaps I'm just not appreciating his acting as much as I should, lol!

Leif Garrett and Cybil Danning star in "God's Gun," with Danning being the more tolerable of the two. Fortunately, Leif remains mute for most of the film, although he appears shirtless more often than Cybil Danning, which is criminal. Overall, "God's Gun" is unremarkable and serves as one of the final nails in the coffin of the Spaghetti Western genre. Despite its many flaws, there is a certain curiosity about these late-stage Spaghetti Westerns, especially since this one was filmed in Israel. It's another film featuring Lee Van Cleef checked off my watchlist.

Imagine being one of the last 11 people on Earth, only to discover that you are trapped in a research facility 1,000 feet underground, surrounded by vampire bats! I would rather take my chances with those bloodthirsty bats than be forced to create a new world with a group of people chosen by an algorithm. Musk would soon get on your tits.

The concept of the vampire bat twist is promising, but ultimately falls short. The film is overly dialogue-heavy and lacks sufficient action involving the bats. When there is bat action, it reflects the limited budget, which I appreciated. The more basic the special effects, the better! Here, the effects are indeed minimal. Additionally, the high-tech computers are huge things with massive levers and flashing lights—another plus, in my opinion.

The latter part of the film focuses on the characters trying to escape the facility. To the director's credit, he does manage to create some tension during this sequence as the survivors attempt to reach the surface. Unfortunately, the rest of the film is filled with generic characters in bathrobes who spend too much time arguing. In the end, it’s disappointing because what seems like a great premise leads to a rather dull viewing experience.

Antonio Margheriti does *The Mechanic*! Yul Brynner stars as Peter Marciani, a retired hitman who is persuaded to come out of retirement when he learns that a mob boss in Italy is responsible for his brother's death many years ago. Upon arriving in Italy, he befriends a local criminal eager to climb the criminal hierarchy. Marciani takes him under his wing. This is an exact subplot of *The Mechanic*, but without the betrayal.

While hunting down the man who killed his brother, Marciani also falls in love with a showgirl, played by Barbara Bouchet, all while potentially losing his sight. Although Brynner regarded this type of role beneath him, I still found his performance as an aging hitman quite effective. It's evident he didn't fully commit to the role, and I've read that he clashed with his co-stars. Notably, he and Barbara Bouchet had disagreements on set due to Brynner's perceived rudeness towards the crew, which reminds me of his feud with Steve McQueen during the filming of *The Magnificent Seven*. In that case, the conflict seemed to stem more from McQueen's dickish behahiour. As Raylan Givens once said, "If you run into an asshole in the morning, you ran into an asshole. If you run into assholes all day, you're the asshole."

Antonio Margheriti delivers an entertaining Eurocrime film filled with car chases, bloody killings, nudity, and deadly eye drops! He borrows heavily from other films, but this won't be a drawback if you're familiar with 70s Italian exploitation—it's all part of the charm. Although it's not the best Eurocrime flick out there, it's certainly not as bad as I feared.

This was Yul's final film before he dedicated himself entirely to theater work. It's a shame, as he, along with the nudity, is the best part of the movie. It's available on Prime, but the picture quality is bloody atrocious, so that's something to consider.

I'm a lawman. Do you know what a lawman is, Crowe? He's a killer of men. That's what the job calls for. There are new ways to put it, but it reads the same. That's the difference between us, and it's all the difference I need.

I'm slightly obsessed with the guy using an ear trumpet! I need to get one of these because the sound quality in modern movies is so bad.

As far as I know, this is Michael Winner's first attempt at a western. However, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. A year later, he released "Chato's Land," which stars Charles Bronson. Interestingly, there is a character named Vincent Brosnon in this film, which might be a coincidence. I like to think not. It's Michael Winner so who the fuck knows. I have read that Winner was so obsessed with trying to make it as authentic as possible. I think he achieved that if nothing else.

So the plot isn't anything you haven't seen before. Burt Lancaster is Bannock, Marshall Jared Maddox, who has arrived in town to apprehend a gang that shot up his town and accidentally killed an old man. Maddox rides into Sabbath, New Mexico, with one of these men already dead, and is now demanding the rest of them either hand themselves in or he will take them by force. Maddox has a reputation for not being able to be bought and always getting his man no matter what. His nickname isn't the widowmaker for nothing! It's not long before he checks in with the Sabbath Marshall Cotton Ryan (Robert Ryan), who clues him up on the men he's looking for all work for local cattleman Vincent Bronson (Lee J. Cobb), who also owns the entire town. Ryan will do anything for a quiet life and tries his damndest to find a solution, but Maddox only cares about upholding the law.

At first glance, the situation appears to be a clear-cut case of right versus wrong. Maddox embodies law and order, viewing things in black and white. Meanwhile, the men insist they are innocent, arguing that the person who was killed died accidentally. They even acknowledge that when Maddox takes them back to Bannock, they are unlikely to face punishment, as the judge can easily be bribed by Bronson. However, this does not deter Maddox. It only strengthens his resolve to deliver his own brand of justice if they refuse to surrender to him.

Maddox sees himself as a good guy doing whatever he can to uphold the law. As the film goes on, you start to question if this is the case. he knows these men's pride won't allow them to surrender, so they're going to challenge him at every turn, which usually means ending up on the end of a bullet.

Although I enjoyed this, I couldn't help but notice that some of the most interesting characters are left with little to do. Robert Ryan is criminally underused. Cotton Ryan stands out as the most complex character. His backstory is referenced multiple times, but his character isn't further developed beyond being a coward. It's a Michael Winner film, so you get the unsatisfactory ending and his constant zoom shots to contend with; apart from that, it's not that bad of a yarn.

It's always good to see a young Robert Duvall. I say, young, I'm sure he was born 50 years old lol!

I have seen a lot of Blaxploitation films in my time and quite a few of those have involved pimps as characters, and none of those had as many amazing pimp wear as Willie Dynamite! That mink outfit with the ridiculous hat is a sight to behold. Then later on he turns up in a costume that wouldn’t look out of place on the damn pope! Willie has STYLE. None of the other pimps can compete with his bitches let alone his threads, and you better DIG that!

They try. There is a scene in the opening 30 minutes where all the pimps are hanging out bragging about their bitches, operation and quality of coke, which reminded me a bit of the business card scene in American Pyscho except it was bitches making one pimp in particular green with envy. That pimp is Bell (Roger Robinson) who called the pimp council meeting to talk about with how the cops be cracking down on the flesh trade they should try and get organized. His plan is to no longer have pimps fighting over territory instead forces where each pimp has their terrority. Everyone but Willie agrees to this plan. Willie explaining you can’t tame his wild bitches and keep them to one area they’re used to roaming the jungle you can’t be keeping them in captivity!

Willie is a real piece of work. There isn’t too much to like about how he treats his girls. He under pays them, overcharges them and isn’t the most reliable pimp when they get themselves into trouble with the law. The threat of violence is always around the corner if they don’t produce the scratch. After one of his girls is arrested, it puts him on a collision course with social worker Cora (Diana Sands), who is determined to bring down his empire.

This was a very different Blaxploitation flick than I was expecting. Considering the subject matter, there is zero nudity, and the violence is limited to a handful of scenes. Instead, it becomes more of a dramatic character study. As Cora tries to save the poor girls from a life under the thumb of a violent pimp as well as trying to get through to Willie that maybe there is a different way of life out there waiting for him. I’m not sure you can even classify it as a Blaxploitation film, to be perfectly honest. It's almost a completely different genre when you compare it with Superfly or The Mack.

If you have ever longed for a pimp story with a positive message then this is the film for you. Roscoe Orman going from pimp to sesame street is hell of a story!

Like "Karate Kid," where a charisma-challenged Frenchman portrays Mr. Miyagi and Daniel is trying to get recruited by Latino gangs from "GTA: San Andreas!" I imagine this role was originally intended for Jean-Claude Van Damme, who likely turned it down, leading to the casting of Olivier Gruner, who is like a budget version of him. Compared to Gruner, Van Damme might be Marlon Brando. Gruner’s thick French accent doesn’t help, making his dialogue hard to understand. Thankfully, the story is straightforward, so you don’t need to focus too much on what he’s mumbling most of the time.

Grunier is a student in America, training martial arts fighters for the Olympics or something like that. Who the fuck even knows or cares! He struggles to find accommodation and ends up staying in a rough ghetto largely dominated by Latino gangs, which makes life hell for the residents. The gang targets the family he is living with, demanding that the eldest son their ranks or face dire consequences. This puts them at odds with Grunier, giving him a reason to confront multiple bad guys and showcase his martial arts skills.

The action isn't much to write home about, just about competent enough as an array of stereotypical Latino gang are dragged out to be kicked in the head by our hero. One hilarious thing is the gang are carrying around UZI's most of the time but instead decide to take him on in arm to arm combat in every fight no matter how many times he kicks their ass! I think the only time they use their weapons is during a drive-by shooting - even when they introduce a Vietnam vet in a wheelchair who's equipped with an assault rifle, they refuse to use their weapons! It's, nothing special, but it does start with Oliver Grunier and a naked woman in a graveyard, so it has that going for it. The same can’t be said for some of the dated dialogue, especially from any Latino character, which would not fly nowadays.

You will never make me hate these crappy DTV martial arts veichles from the 90’s no matter how badly choreographed the action happens to be.

You made two mistakes... one was getting up, the other was making fun of Shirley Temple.

As a fan of revenge films, I find that *The Farmer* does not compare to classics like *Rolling Thunder*, *Death Wish*, or even* Get Carter*. It falls significantly short of those movies. The plot is simple and resembles many other revenge stories: Kyle Martin (played by Gary Conway) returns home from World War II with a Silver Star. Upon arriving at his family farm, he is shocked to find it rundown and on the verge of being auctioned off.

Things take a turn when he saves the life of a gambler named Johnny O. After becoming friends, circumstances escalate due to Johnny’s dealings with the mob. They come to an agreement in which Johnny will provide Kyle with enough money to save the farm, provided that Kyle agrees to take out the people who have harmed him. It’s a standard setup for this genre of film.

The revenge in this film is bloody and graphic, as Kyle kills off of the mob in various ways. However, the main action doesn't kick in until the final thirty minutes, making the earlier parts feel tedious, as they focus primarily on the day-to-day life on a farm. As interesting as that sounds, it does become tiresome very quickly. The only break you get is an overly long rape scene that goes on forever for no apparent reason.

You have to question the logic of asking a farmer you’ve just met, who only helped you once, to kill all your enemies. Their brief encounter hardly establishes a strong enough bond for such a drastic request. This isn't like the partnership between Tommy Lee Jones and William Devane in "Rolling Thunder," where they had a deeper connection.

A lot of material was likely cut from the final version, as there are several logic gaps throughout the film. Overall, as a revenge story, it’s only moderately effective. It's a pity that much of the lead-up to the revenge is skippable.

George Memmoli sustained injuries in this film, preventing him from appearing in Taxi Driver, in the Marty Scorsese role. It's hard to imagine anyone but Marty asking Travis if he knows what a magnum would do to a womans pussy,

You mean to tell me I ain't never gonna see my face again? Hey, look here, man. I don't mind being a vampire and all that shit, but this really ain't hip. I mean, a man has got to see his face.

William Marshall returns as Mamuwalde, also known as Blacula. This time, the film incorporates voodoo elements, which sounds more intriguing than it ultimately turns out to be. Even Pam Grier, portraying a voodoo priestess, fails to capture the lighthearted fun of the original film. I like to think more voodoo would have helped. Much of the runtime focuses on the police investigation into a series of bodies that have been found drained of blood. On this occasion, it becomes more difficult to persuade the cops that a creature of the night is behind the crimes.

I can’t say I enjoyed it as much as the first movie. There are pacing issues here and there, and there are too many dull characters. Until the finale, the most interesting part of the film is when a wannabe voodoo priest summons Blacula back to life, only to be bitten and transformed into a bloodthirsty vampire. His primary concern? He can't see how fresh he looks in his threads now that he no longer has a reflection. It’s fine as a blaxploitation, it just lost some of the original's magic.

The bat effects might have been even worse than the first film, so I have to give another half-star for that alone. Shitty 70’s effects for the win!

Like many people of a certain age, my introduction to Sonny Chiba came from the scene in "True Romance" where Clarence goes to see a Streetfighter triple bill. Not long after watching "True Romance" for the first time, I decided to buy the Street Fighter Trilogy Box set. Over the next several years, I picked up quite a few Sonny Chiba DVDs from my local video store. I have the Sonny Chiba Collection Box sets, including "The Killing Machine," "Yakuza Deka," "The Assassin," "Golgo 13," "The Bullet Train," and "G.I. Samurai," all of which are still in their original cellophane on my shelf, and have been for at least 20 years! One of those films, "Karate Warriors," recently made its way to the top of my watchlist after a random shuffle.

Sonny Chiba arrives in town and quickly becomes embroiled in chaos when a poor soul is beaten nearly to death, with no one stepping in to help. Sonny drags the injured man down the street on a straw rug to seek assistance from a local doctor. The doctor informs him about an ongoing gang war between two brothers, setting the stage for the rest of the movie: Sonny Chiba against everyone else.

The film introduces a Samurai and his child, which is amusing given that it’s set in the modern day. This creates a humorous visual, with characters dressed in 1970s attire alongside a random Samurai.

In short, Sonny finds himself caught between the feuding gangs, playing both brothers against each other as each one tries to assert dominance and track down heroin hidden by a deceased man. If you've seen "Yojimbo" or a Sergio Leone film, this premise will sound quite familiar.

What it lacks in plot it makes up with having Sonny Chiba kick the absolute shit out of a bunch of bad guys - punching and kicking with those fantastic 70’s sound effects that sound like a gun going off with every roundhouse kick. And just when you think you have seen enough violence, they have a gunman's hands cut off with swords, with the firearm still in hand. So good. Sonny takes his fair share of punishment. One minute he’s saving a kid's life, the next he’s tied up in a freezer being severely beaten with a bat.

Maybe one thing to take into if you’re thinking about watching this is the amount of violence against women, even for the 1970’s it seems a bit overkill with women being beaten, raped, and killed regularly most of which is for the sake of it. Seriously, there are a lot of female characters whose only reason for being there is so they can be abused and meet a violent end.

Although it may not be a technically great movie—there are moments when the editing is jarring and the camera work is shaky during fight scenes—it is still an enjoyable film featuring Sonny Chiba. It includes all the elements that make his movies entertaining. I particularly appreciate the fight on the train, and the showdown on the beach is fantastic, showcasing Sonny Chiba facing overwhelming odds. It was well worth the 20-year wait.

They pulled a Murphy!

After turning down the role in "Dirty Harry," John Wayne spent this phase of his career making lesser versions of that film. Both "McQ" and "Brannigan" were released in the same year, with "McQ" achieving more financial success than "Brannigan." At 68 years old and recovering from a recent health issue, Wayne was not in a position to engage in foot chases or perform stunts. Instead, equipped with a ridiculous hairpiece, he starred in this fish-out-of-water story. The man couldn’t even get a decent burger in merry old England!

I always enjoy revisiting this film every few years. While it’s not perfect, it’s still a lot of fun to watch. It’s a nice change of pace to see John Wayne in unfamiliar settings. There’s never a dull moment, that's for sure. If you can’t find joy in watching John Wayne throw Baldrick from Blackadder into the Thames, fight Brian Glover, and engage in pub brawls, then there's no pleasing some people.

There are lots of fun scenes, my personal favorite that doesn’t include a naked John Vernon being stored in a container is when John Wayne suspects that his toilet is rigged with a bomb. Instead of trying to defuse it, he ties a piece of string to the flush., Yanking it to let off the explosion! Never mind the poor cow's house that he’s staying in! It’s a great moment that makes me laugh out loud in absolute delight, no matter how often I see it. It's so ridiculous. I love it!

Wayne and Dickie made a great pair, complementing each other well despite their different personalities and styles of police work. The Duke gradually rubbed off on Attenbrough, who typically took a more by-the-book approach. And I have to say I may have enjoyed Judy Gleeson ferrying John Wayne around London even more! John Wayne squeezing himself into a car is a really weird visual LOL! Overall, the film is a solid "Dirty Harry" knockoff that has a more lighthearted vibe compared to other films from that era. It doesn’t rely solely on big action sequences; in fact, it features more comedic scenes than you might expect. This was Wayne's final non-Western movie, and he made only two more films after this one, making it an intriguing entry in his filmography.

Baby, you better sit down, 'cause I got something heavy to lay on you.

I have never been particularly fond of Dracula films, and I’m not entirely sure why. The same goes for most vampire movies; they don’t resonate with me. Blade might be the exception. Perhaps my perspective would change if all vampire movies were set in 1970s Los Angeles, featuring a cast of cool cats and hot sista’s with Afros.

Mamuwalde is an African prince who, in 1780, seeks Count Dracula's help to end the slave trade. However, Dracula refuses to assist him and instead unleashes his army of vampires on Mamuwalde. He transforms Mamuwalde into a vampire and locks him in a casket for eternity.

Centuries later, the sealed coffin is shipped to Los Angeles by two antique dealers, who get an unexpected surprise when they break the padlock off the casket. Blacula is finally free to roam the streets of L.A., desperately seeking blood to quench his thirst. During this time, he encounters Tina (played by Vonetta McGee), whose striking afro and appearance remind him of his long-lost love, Lova.

As the body count rises due to the vampire's activities, local scientific investigator Gordon Thomas (Thalmus Rasulala) begins to connect the dots. He quickly concludes that a vampire is responsible for the killings because why wouldn’t you? —a theory that is reinforced when bodies start to mysteriously disappear. Can he convince his superiors that a vampire is indeed behind the murders? Weirdly, it doesn’t take that much evidence to convince them.

Blacula is as campy and silly as one might expect. However, William Marshall, who portrays the title character, doesn’t play for laughs, even when things get ridiculous. I enjoyed this film much more than I anticipated; I loved the overall silliness and how they took the time to develop Mamuwalde as a sympathetic character with a backstory. It was also interesting to see how the other characters who become vampires return with a shade of green, resembling zombies more than traditional vampires. Overall, it serves as a nice time capsule and remains surprisingly entertaining even 40 years later.

I don't usually log TV shows here, but I felt compelled to make an exception for this fantastic limited series. It’s essential viewing and truly deserving of all the awards it will receive. With so much hype surrounding these shows, it's natural to be skeptical about whether they can live up to expectations. The "one-shot" gimmick made me even more hesitant. However, I'm happy to say I was wrong, as this series was excellent throughout all four very different episodes. The one-shot technique only enhances your immersion in the story. That shot at the end of episode two is something else entirely! I'm also glad they released a behind-the-scenes video to explain how they achieved it, as it was all I could think about. The acting is a standout feature; everyone is fantastic. Stephen Graham, in particular, once again proves he is one of the best actors on the planet—I would watch him read a phone book! This series almost makes up for "Electric State."

That Man Bolt 45l19 1973 - ★★★ https://letterboxd.sitesdebloques.org/beardoftsu/film/that-man-bolt/ letterboxd-review-847060769 Fri, 28 Mar 2025 05:30:26 +1300 2025-03-27 No That Man Bolt 1973 3.0 22058 <![CDATA[

In my review of "Hell Up in Harlem," I noted that the film was shot over a weekend because Fred was busy making another film during the week. That film was "That Man Bolt." It's difficult to say whether this trade-off was worthwhile; "Hell Up in Harlem" suffered because of it, and "That Man Bolt" isn't exactly considered high-quality material either.

In this film, Fred Williamson plays a karate-kicking James Bond. He takes on the role of an international man of mystery who is not only a wealthy womanizer, but also a courier for hire. His mission involves transporting what he believes to be one million US dollars, although it may actually be counterfeit. Regardless, this transaction puts him in great danger, as individuals are willing to kill for the money.

The plot is overly convoluted, but that’s not much of an issue. We are only here to see Fred Williamson as a bad motherfucker taking on a variety of villains, and the film delivers in that regard, even if the action isn't particularly spectacular. Williamson effectively karate-kicks through most of the bad guys and looks good doing it! He only takes a break to seduce an occasional love interest, one of whom he later uses as a human shield—something James Bond would never do. Bond aint nothing on THAT MAN BOLT!

In the opening 10 minutes, there is a scene with the British government official where Fred and his British counterparts are trading "old boys," which I found highly amusing at the time. Fred calling a stuffy Brit an old boy isn’t something I thought I needed. Overall, it’s a very watchable Blaxploitation flick, but one of the lesser films of the genre. It's one for Fred Williamson diehards rather than the casual film fan.

It's interesting to note that there was originally supposed to be a trilogy of these films, but only the first one was ever made. However, Fred ensured that he was paid for all three films. What a legend!

Baby, I can't make love to you in your car. I respect you too much. How about a blowjob?

To say this was a slog would be an understatement; the first hour is brutal! I would have completely written this off if it weren't for Linnea Quigley's boobs and the practical effects. The hammer-to-the-head kill is the standout moment and might just about redeem the rest of the mess that is "Murder Weapon." Not quite, though. Even with an 83-minute running time, I cannot, in good conscience, recommend it.

It's great to see Eric Freeman, of Silent Night, Deadly Night 2 fame, make an appearance. I would have given an extra half-star if he had shouted "GARBAGE DAY" at someone.

Forget any marital problems you might encounter; nothing compares to a marriage falling apart over which type of martial arts is superior! Gordon Lui insists that the more subtle approach of Chinese martial arts is the one true form of fighting, while his new bride feels disrespected by this view of her culture's more bombastic fighting style. This disagreement escalates their conflict. Even when they compare the differences in weaponry between their chosen martial arts, they cannot reach an agreement.

As tensions rise, after his wife returns to Japan, Ho Tao (Gordon Lui) sends her a letter - a challenge stating that he will set aside his pride and it defeat if she can defeat him using Japanese martial arts. Unbeknownst to him, her teacher intercepts this letter and takes it as an insult. Determined to restore honor, he travels to China to challenge Ho Tao to fight seven different martial arts experts, each skilled in various techniques ranging from pole fighting to ninjitsu.

I thought this movie was excellent. It is a great introduction for anyone looking to get into Shaw Brothers films or martial arts cinema. It's a true crowd-pleaser, showcasing a variety of martial arts styles wrapped in a story about respect, honor, and cultural clashes. The fight sequences are brilliantly choreographed and surprisingly feature zero bloodshed. Duels concludes with displays of respect rather than the death of an opponent, which is a refreshing change of pace and makes the film unique in that regard. The Japanese fighters are not depicted as inferior; often, their losses are more a matter of luck in their respective battles. This film offers a meaningful message that is impossible not to enjoy. Even if Gordon Lui is an unlikeable prick at times!
