That's it, I'm only going to give Fassbinder 5-8 more movies before I decide I don't like most of them, like 7-9 movies before I decide. But I did find this indulgent and very lazy, absurd he ranked this as the best movie he made: artists really are often their own worst readers.
Hadn't seen this since I was a teenager. One of my favorite moments in grad school was when, in workshop, I mentioned how much I thought Christopher Nolan was a hack, and my professor, Samuel Delany, said, "Sebastian, I hate it when intelligent people say something very stupid" and then told the class he had seen Memento in theaters fifty times when it came out.
I stopped watching movies due to my various mental agonies but I thought I'd put this on. There are moving moments in this. The scene on the bleachers made me cry: "Do you like girls? Do you like boys? I like TV shows." Gonna probably watch all of the original Twilight Zone for the next 6 weeks. I would like to dedicate the rest of my year toward working on an enduring and personally valuable work of art, which seems like a healthy way to spend my life. RIP Fredric Jameson
