The box call this an “experience” which sort of differentiates it from a regular movie. The actors are amateurs, but the acting isn’t amateurish. All a bit more subdued and like regular folk. There is a murder, and not much of a mystery, but it was interesting to see how it played out. I guess it’s a sort of true crime “why-dunit” than anything else. Not bad, expect when the players get a bit too mumbly.
The only thing more dull and pointless than the first 100 minutes of this film are the last 18 minutes of this film! I watched Code Unknown while on a bus ride from Seoul to Goseong. There were times when I stared out of the window rather than look down at my iPad, simply because the ing countryside – grey, brown, and dead in the middle of winter – was much more interesting than the image on my screen. This is the entry in Lucio Fulci’s Gates of Hell trilogy that I’ve seen the least. To be quite honest I think I like The Beyond and House by the Cemetery more, but this film does have its share of Fulci bloody-eyed charm.
