Loooooooove..... love. 4 stars just for the atmosphere alone because good lord. The scene when Thomas is venturing to the castle from the village on foot and he enters the long corridor of trees may be in my top 10 favorite shots of all time because I got chills when I saw it. I think some people may be turned off because they expected a straight up horror film and not the desperate monster-fucker romantic gothic flick this movie needed to be. I'm torn between thinking Nosferatu, as a horror villain, should have been utilized and shown less on screen, especially as early as he appeared, and appreciating the way they portrayed his character as a more dimensional object of torment for Ellen. I think the narrative could have used some more to add some depth to her need and Nosferatu's dependency instead of the solid hour and a half of all the men talking alone. This movie could have used more Ellen and less men talking, that is for certain. I think they should have either utilized more of the runtime to explore her character or just cut out a good deal of the conversation between all the men just being like "wahhhhhh what da hell going on" cause I reached a point where I just kept thinking ok damn, put my girl back on the screen. I don't care what anyone says, though, Lily was acting her ass off. I was so mesmerized, she really thrives in period pieces. I'm gonna watch again and solidify my thoughts but for a first watch, I'm a fan. I still don't like it as much as the VVitch but it's my second favorite Eggers now, above the Lighthouse and certainly above the Northman.

Just gotta say, the end where she like, gives it up.... yeah that'd be me too, girl, I cannot tell a lie.

yeah, this is exactly what it was like

first of all, i will always watch any horror/thriller set in the gulf bowl no matter how good or bad it is, just to establish that bias. the first 10 minutes of this movie really set the tone and the setting nicely and i immediately fell in love. it definitely had me expecting a much different movie than the one i watched but as a fan of dark, i of course found it entertaining. eliza scanlen, you will always be famous.

ok not actually cause she did her husband sooooooo dirty but still this is truly one of my favorite films of all time, i watched it for the first time when i was like 9 or 10 and it psychologically altered me. i would not change a single thing about this film. diane lane is intoxicating every time she's on screen but she really just puts you in her pocket for this one and makes you feel every single thing she's feeling. i have to pause this movie every 20 seconds while watching because it's so suffocating and enrapturing that i can't stand to watch it uninterrupted. FUCK i love this movie.

ok so this was my first FFC film and i really enjoyed it. the shot of johnny and ponyboy standing outside the church on the porch with the burnt sky behind them may be one of my new favorite shots in any film ever. definitely broke my heart at the end in a way i wasn't expecting. also goddamn i didn't realize this was thee white boy heartthrob convention of the 80s. love love love, i will be buying the dvd.

might be the most beautiful gay pornographic film i’ve ever seen. i bought the 4K remastered blu-ray and i’m glad i did because experiencing this in full high def beauty on my big tv was incredible. the music in the forest scene will not leave my head, this is definitely my new favorite adult film. every single scene in this is perfect, i’m obsessed. i could have sworn i read somewhere (i can’t find it anymore) that someone that worked on this film also worked on days of heaven. i’m not sure if that’s actually true but my brain can’t unsee the parallels now. they’re both so stunning. wow i love gay porn.

this was honestly so much better than the first one in a way that really surprised me. (same thing happened with those ouija movies.) naomi scott gave such a memorable performance, i was kinda blown away. the gore also surprised me with how much there was, i very much enjoyed how nasty it was. also high key stressed me out the entire time lol. i was sat there thinking LET HER CANCEL THE TOURRRRR 😭😭😭 very good horror movie, i highly recommend.

just rewatched this one again. i always get so hung up on the second one that i forget how good this one is too. anyone who hates it is TASTELESS. the tone of this film is so good and freaky, i always feel so bad for laurie when she finds annie. it’s so sad. god i love this movie.

I can’t believe I don’t see this movie talked about more, it’s so good. the concept is sooooo scary (i hate mazes of underground tunnels) and i think it’s very well acted. definitely a quality horror movie, it has great rewatch value.

this is one of those films where i find myself banging my head against the tv begging god to let me in. every second of this film is so painfully captivating that i almost have to hold my breath until it’s over. fuck.

this is easily one of my favorite horror movies of all time. it follows one of my cardinal rules of horror, which is that in order to make a movie scary, you have to make it sad. i was so disturbed by this movie when i watched it for the first time as a kid and i’ve loved it ever since. i rewatch it every october.

i’m honestly shocked this movie doesn’t have a massive cult following. the first time i watched this was on tv when i was 9 or 10 and for years i thought i was making it up because i couldn’t find anything about it anywhere and nobody i talked to had ever heard of it. i love this movie so much and i rewatch it often, the dvd sits on my dresser in my room. lindsay lohan never fails to captivate me. also lowkey one of the best strip club sequences in any film ever, it’s up there with sheri moon zombie in halloween.

funny as FUCK, i actually loved that way more than the first one. it’s the only movie series that can sustain 8 separate plot lines and pull it off well. catherine o’hara is a god among men, every single time she was on screen i was crying laughing. she’s so funny. and i love winona ryder too, jesus. what a great flick. beetlejuice beetlejuice beetlejuice!!

i’ve never seen a movie with river phoenix in it before. i understand his legacy now, what a phenomenal child actor. makes me sad knowing how it ended with him. what a good film, i see why it’s a classic.

the first 15 minutes of this movie gave me a lot of ideas on how i wanna decorate my bedroom. i wish the 80s were real.

what in the hell

for an hour and a half i sat there bored out of my mind, and then the last ten minutes happened and i realized i had been hypnotized and terrified the entire time. get high and watch it alone in a dark room, and in theaters if you can. definitely a boring watch if you don’t want anything out of it, but if you want what it has to offer, and you’re willing to give yourself over to it, it’s definitely effective.

I really only watch this for the end sequence cause I like to get really high and turn all the lights off and sit right in front of the TV with the volume maxed out. An experience unlike any other, honestly.

For the entire first hour and a half of this movie, I was anticipating it to just be a simple little visual experience of blood and young love and 80s nostalgia porn, of all which was 5 stars in my book the whole time. The music is great and the acting is effective and I was enjoying myself greatly. Then the last 15 minutes happened and derailed me for a solid 24 hours. I cried hard. Can’t stop thinking about this movie. I’m captivated.

not gonna lie, i ate this movie right up. i was thoroughly entertained the entire time. the visuals are gorgeous, the acting is superb, my only complaint is that racist ass cop getting a redemption (?) arc.

My mom once told me she watched this when it first came out and it scared her so bad that she cried and had to get on her knees and pray for God to take the memory of it out of her head so she could go to bed and I always thought that was a cool story.

One time I got really fucking high (like i'm talking balls to the wall high) and watched this in a pitch black room and it was the scariest, most incredible experience I have ever had. It's absolute shit to watch sober so I do not do that.

Another southern gothic favorite of mine. The visuals are great; the acting is a little off kilter at times, but overall a really enjoyable movie. I'm glad she wound up with Flower at the end cause if not, I would have killed myself.

Literally my favorite movie of all time. The emotion it invokes in me is truly unlike anything I have ever experienced. It very well may be the greatest American film of all time and that is a statement I would take to the bank! The wide shots of the west, the outfits and overall styling, the perms, Susan fucking Sarandon and Geena fucking Davis.... I have watched this movie a million times and I will watch it another million. The score is stunning, Hans Zimmer did an incredible job of musically complimenting this movie and the soundtrack is just as incredible. There is not a scene in this movie I would ever skip. 100000/10. God bless America, amen.

Very much a slow burn. I didn't understand anything the first time I watched it (albeit I wasn't quite paying attention) but once it ended and I understood everything, I loved it and immediately rewatched it. (Also not to say that it's that complicated of a movie, I'm just dumb as fuck.) The atmosphere is what really keeps me coming back to it, it's just such a cold and bleak film. I love it.

One of my favorites! I get really invested in the characters every time I watch it, and the setting makes for an excellent American gothic feel. For a low budget film, it was solidly executed and fully has my heart.

This is a very specific sub-genre of movie I as a kid that seemed to only exist from about 1996 to 2004, but really seemed to prosper between '98 and '02. I also call them "silent hill" dramas. For the film to fit under this umbrella, it must contain at least a handful of these criteria:

- Moody, rainy/windy atmosphere
- Blue/greenish hue
- Unhappy couple in their 30s-40s
- Someone in the marriage is having an affair or under a lot of pressure at work
- Someone in the marriage is sick/recently died
- The couple has recently divorced but are still in somewhat close
- The couple must live or work in Manhattan
- If not Manhattan, they must spend part of the movie in New England
- Takes place in any season except summer
- There is a remote, secluded estate/vacation home
- The wife is waif-y yet determined
- The husband is kinda gay in a Ralph Lauren sweater way

This sub-genre is primarily associated with psychological erotic thrillers and horror but can be found in other genres as well. There may be films made referentially in this style outside the stated time period (eg: Faces in the Crowd, Chloe). The locale of and proximity to Manhattan is exceptionally crucial to this genre, but there are select outliers (eg: The Fourth Kind, The Piano Teacher, The Ring). The couple aspect is a core component of this sub-genre; the dynamic between the two, whether separated by divorce or death, is important to this specific theme. Films about single individuals, although otherwise fitting the sub-genre (eg: Sliver with Sharon Stone) cannot be included.
