Loooooooove..... love. 4 stars just for the atmosphere alone because good lord. The scene when Thomas is venturing to the castle from the village on foot and he enters the long corridor of trees may be in my top 10 favorite shots of all time because I got chills when I saw it. I think some people may be turned off because they expected a straight up horror film and not the desperate monster-fucker romantic gothic flick this movie needed…

For the entire first hour and a half of this movie, I was anticipating it to just be a simple little visual experience of blood and young love and 80s nostalgia porn, of all which was 5 stars in my book the whole time. The music is great and the acting is effective and I was enjoying myself greatly. Then the last 15 minutes happened and derailed me for a solid 24 hours. I cried hard. Can’t stop thinking about this movie. I’m captivated.
