Dune: Part Two

The first half of this film is on the slower side, spending most of it on world building, very much like the first film. The first film wasn't everyone's cup of tea for that very reason but it's something I appreciate as a fan of Frank Herbert's original novel.

By the second half though, the film hits the ground running and never stops. The thesis of Dune revolves around the idea of a Messiah. A chosen one who will bring us salvation and guide humanity to prosperity. Part Two shows us that no such being truly exists. A scene towards the end of the film showcases that even with all of our attempts to close off our hearts and see the world through the lens of a God, humanity is incapable of that. We yearn to listen to our hearts and the heart of a human will always be perpetually at war with the enormity of Providence.

At some point, somethings gotta give. Villeneuve will probably save that for the third and final part of the story, but for now, seeing the Holy War of Dune play out on the big screen is truly a sight to see.
