A bit heavy handed for a Marvel movie but it does the job better than Brave New World and I didn't feel dead inside watching this.

Shoutout to the production team for giving us interesting lighting and deliberate styles to separate from other Marvel movies. The score was a bit distracting for me, very manipulative and not as subtle. But I agree with my friend the villains theme was cool. Check out his review typical_student

Ok that was sick!
I did not expect it to get fantastical in certain moments. It scared me when it occurs.

And Eggers wasn’t kidding when he used this as a foundation for The Northman. I want to do a double feature with that next ⚔️ 

Shout out to my friend, typical_student, for finally getting me to see this in full. It was always in parts when I was a kid in Mexico on my grandmas tv.

Visually pleasing and had a good time. Didn’t blow me away. Anti-climactic moments and quick resolutions. I was amazed by how fast the third act felt imo. I think the acting was fine, it looked like a good time and got me to laugh. Incredible production but my friend and I wanted to watch another similar movie after this 👀 

Great work around the concept just not as strong. The movie changing/ shifting tones throughout was a bit tough for me. When it was holding the audiences hand it gave me the ick. The horror was ok and the action was almost great. I dug the fate of the characters though and there are some great editing moments.

I hope this idea also came from THE Robert Johnson story. The music is not for me but it is commendable and a wonderful translation to the visual medium. Either way, glad this was made and hope it gets people in the theater.

Love the opening scene

I started hearing strange noises when I was house sitting and I popped this on to get my hopes up again.

Never get tired of it 👏

From the first watch it felt like a spectacle even on a laptop. It became my favorite Miyazaki film. To see it in IMAX left me in a blissful mood. 

It is beautiful and I’ll leave it at that.
Going home and playing the score on vinyl. Thank you Just Richard for the gift from Japan 🙌

Barely listened to the album in full last year and it was one of the most immersive listening experiences. 

And barely found out about this music video. An incredible play, I feel as if this was what Malcom & Marie was aiming to be. 

Incredible blocking in every aspect and the lighting is somberly beautiful.

“I grieve different”

Slow, not in a good way, wish we retained more info on the main character but we are learning as we move along. Some actions were questionable from the main character with a certain condition in the beginning.

Constantly thinking of Dead Space, Annihilation, Alien, The Thing and Halloween. My friend added Resident Evil, Evil Dead and Event Horizon to the list. Lastly he said Prometheus with a certain scene 👀.

It does the job visually, it doesn't always hit the mark but the atmosphere is great! I wish the build up was better but that was a cool third act. Some scenes don’t always transition well onto the next but the editing got very creative, especially when it blended with the dynamic lighting.

Main reason I checked this out was because of Flying Lotus. Never seen his directorial efforts but his live sets are great. Especially his tour with 3D glasses and psychedelic visuals on an LED screen behind him. I was looking forward to his score; plenty of times I was enjoying it and sometimes the temp music slightly took me out of it. Really loved the John Carpenter inspired music and visuals. One nitpick was the audio mixing would blend the music and dialogue. I couldn’t make out what was said at times. I also thought of the It Follows soundtrack if it was bouncier.

It borrows a lot from other sources and I was trying to vibe with it. Nothing wrong with using existing elements just wish it was stronger. Looks like it was a cool production to be a part of. My friend also mentioned it was a music video at times and I can understand that. We enjoyed the “artsy” moments more than the story. I thought the resolution to the conflict with a certain machine was underwhelming and the mechanics of our conflict was brushed off quickly with said machine. 

Acting was able, cool to see Eiza and Aaron in a sci-fi flick. Once I saw Iko I knew he had to have his shining action moment 👏 
One scare that got me was actually from a rock, you’ll know the part 😉 Wish the scares were more silent and dreadful like one shot from an open door. It was cool to see the quick visual cut aways of cosmic horror but I felt it did it one too many times, especially with the audio. It looks cool tho I will give them that 😅

Check it out if it intrigues you and if you are a fan of FlyLo. It was cool to see in a theater for the music alone. Shout out to the homies who ed for this one 🙌

I’m so mad this got no love at the Oscars

Never forgiving them

The more I think about it the more I forget about it. My mind was in between Snowpiercer and Okja throughout my viewing.

The most memorable is of course Mr. Pattinson himself. I’m a broken record here, ever since The Rover I was hooked on him and saw something I didn’t think I would after his Twilight series. Good Time solidified in me being a fan of him and had to catch The Lighthouse. His mixture of genres in this outshines everybody in my opinion. 

Mark Ruffalo was not it for me but I loved the look on him and could not stop looking at his teeth. I preferred him in Poor Things a lot more. Toni Collette and her quirk was a bit distracting and didn't do it for me either. I liked them as a duo however, I totally ship them. 

I wanted more Steven Yeun but it’s a nice treat to see him. Naomi Ackie has a charm and sold it in the “two for one” scene. Many moments like that where the humor snuck in was a treat for me.

I think I liked this more than Okja but just a bit less than Snowpiercer. Wanted more creative production camera work and lighting but it being a sci-fi movie was the real focus and I like to think I was well immersed in it. There was a scene where it is one take of dialogue with a snail like dolly towards our characters. 

Dolby sure was an experience and the sound was very immersive having me turn around and scan the room a couple of times. Glad to have caught this with the homies and push through the heavy rain 🙏

Dorothy is my favorite character however 👏

That was a silly good time with an audience but that was it even if the movie knew it was.

The tone shifting wasn’t always great but my favorite moment has to be the sky diving gag.
And second best is the humor from the editing- a smash cut into a church.

Gallows humor is ok with me but it wasn’t a grand slam.

I approached it as Osgood Perkins did in making this project:

“It was more ‘Wile E. Coyote’ and ‘Itchy and Scratchy’…”

Isaiah Bradley is the real interesting plot imo

The funniest, darkest and perfectly disgusting palette cleanser immediately after watching Emilia Perez. 

These characters are written so much better, but the acting is ok. I love the scenarios and plot lines developing throughout. Constantly wondering what is next especially with Bub who has their own arc 👏

It has small moments but my lord NoSabo Gomez accent is rough and she wasn't alone. As well as some of the grammatical errors in the Spanish language took me out from her and others. 

Favorite moment has to go when Emilia falls in love but just like its previous songs it is not subtle lyrically and is quickly brushed off. The music is used to drive dialogue more and not a lot of the emotion. I preferred it when Umbrellas of Cherbourg did it with its lighter color scheme and not focused on heavy subjects it can’t handle.

This was bombastic for the sake of it and music video like camerawork. It did look like a Saint Laurent ment. But the dynamic lighting and spotlight moments were great. 

A wolf will always be a wolf

I took that quote as a characteristic trait but I don’t think the movie meant it to be.

There is no redeeming quality for the storyline and the scenes play out predictably. Great job technically and the editing cutaways, like the fear from Zoe’s character when she meets Emilia the first time, they were a nice touch.

Cross this off the list and say I saw it, thanks to the homie for hosting and having netflix.

Zoe’s scream and horrified acting was not it.

Saw the international version, the “Made for TV Movie” in case the pilot didn’t get picked up. 

Silly ahhh ending, I feel as if Frost wrote the showdown but it has that Lynch final scene.
That version gets three and a half stars.

Anyways, dug up the boxset after the ing of Lynch and had to revisit Twin Peaks. Have the Log Lady delivering a monologue before introducing each episode and she has some of the most fantastic lines. This one being my favorite so far and is classic Lynch.

"There is a sadness in this world, for we are ignorant of many things. Yes - we are ignorant of many beautiful things. Things like the truth.

So sadness in our ignorance is very real. The tears are real. What is this thing called a tear?

There are even tiny ducts - tear ducts - to produce these tears should the sadness occur.

Then the day when the sadness comes. Then we ask, 'Will the sadness that makes me cry, will the sadness that makes me cry my heart out, will it ever end?' The answer, of course, is yes. One day, the sadness will end."

This movie was persuasive and intellectually stimulating.

In all seriousness it has been days since I last watched this. I cannot stop thinking about this and it constantly affecting my emotions.

I was pulled into this portrait of a man in the opening with the camera locked to Laszlo’s back. Son of Saul came to mind with that and the score immediately pulled me further in. 

Part 1 was incredible and Part 2 had its moments. I am amazed by the editing especially in the monologue from Van Buren talking about his mother. I was entranced just as both characters were to each other.

This story can attribute to many who have faced challenges in the creation of anything. The task and communication lines we go through to achieve. The tests, the restrictions and the control of it all.

I could not help but to think of my ancestors, ing their hardships and their dark secrets to achieve where they wanted to be or settled in regardless of location. 

I was feeling uneasy and violated in multiple scenes in every aspect of a human being from everyone. Everyone involved in creating this showed up with their A-game. Guy Pearce stole the show for me and Felicity Jones continues to shine. Adrien Brody’s silence and body language is exceptional. 

I have much more to say and I don’t want to use the spoiler tag. So much is said without speaking. Especially from the Van Buren family dynamic.

Not a massive fan of the ending but the idea is there and the execution reminded me of their pervious work Vox Lux. I like the detail but how it is revealed not so much.

My brother was locked in! 👏

Love how Hans Zimmer mixed in the traditional music with the orchestral/ Vangelis like epic sounds. Two worlds colliding in sound as it does in picture. 

I prefer this score over part 1

My older brother won’t watch Lord of the Rings cause he thinks fantasy sucks. But he is cool with sci-fi and loves Lawrence of Arabia. 

Somehow I thought Dune would be the perfect movie for him.

And for a set up movie he was really engaged, usually he hates that.

Good job everyone involved for getting my brother to suspend his disbelief.

Amazing technical production, the camera work in itself feels like a character. The Giallo lighting is hypnotizing and hellish. Still Daft Punk- Rollin’ & Scratchin’ freaking me out in the theater and other songs I like used against me. When I first heard Gary Numan’s- Trois Gymnopedie in this I was instantly hooked.

Do not recommend this to just anyone 🙏 

Constantly holding myself after the last credit sequence. Love when films can make me feel uneasy, one of my favorite moments is the restrain to show everything but keep the horror audible in certain moments.

I still need to see Enter the Void 👀

That university had a funny name.

That was grandiose and I was hooked on the first move of the silent dance.

Library scene gave me Ok-Go music video vibes and I was all for it.

I wasn’t really familiar with your game Wicked 👏 

And yes this was my first exposure to everything of the play, always knew of it but never indulged myself in it. Would watch the play someday too 🙏

Not my cup of tea but my goodness what a steamy display.
Whenever I saw Harris Dickinson in the trailer:
“Oh this fucking guy” 🙄

and after seeing this film:
“OH THIS FUCKING GUY!” 👀 

Incredible acting from both leads, insane turn of events and I was in for the ride.
2025 started freaky for me 🥵

Was a fan of the warehouse commercial filming style and sometimes I was taken out by the hand held camera movements for a “static” framing. But it did give it an uneasy feeling 👏 and the focus pulling for the milk scene 👏

Certain scenes got me feeling uneasy and it would freak me out when the sound would remove the ambience.

I will say not super big on the ending and the conclusion the characters have. But interesting display of power dynamics that both characters have.

I need to see Eyes Wide Shut soon

This was my first viewing of any Nosferatu iteration. Now I have to watch the Murnau and Herzog versions. I still have to see Coppola's version of Dracula as well.

The camera work felt invisible in its floating nature, wish I could say the same on the editing especially when stitching frames together. But the effects of playing with editing on Orlock‘s movements 👏 
Can’t miss the praise for the shadow play something I do recognize from past Nosferatu images. The backlighting is heavenly dark 🙏 

Aaron Taylor-Johnson gave us the best look of fear and another emotion I won’t say. Thousand yard stare but in miles. Unfortunately that would be it on his performance for me.

Lily-Rose Depp proved me wrong in her casting. Almost scary acting in riding the fine line between pleasure and pain.

Really liked the look of Orlock and the additions it was given. I know the make up helps in hiding Bill Skarsgård but even in the voice I could not tell it was him. Incredible performance and voice dictation.

Sound design was good to notice in Dolby, one of my favorite parts were after Anna put the kids to sleep, the voyage to the German town, Orlock messing with Thomas the first nights as well as how the vampire attacks and drains blood.

Willem Dafoe doesn’t miss in having a funny moment with him, worked like a charm with the Christmas tree in the back.

Nicholas Hoult was ok, sorry that’s all I got for him. His best scenes were in Orlock’s castle.

Emma Corrin blends with the time period and loved her switch in acting.

It’s close to 4 stars because I wasn’t exactly compelled by the characters but the dread was present and I loved it. My goodness the interior scenes felt like watching a play.

Me when Jim Carrey said “Vaya con dios…”

Jim Carrey keeps on carrying this franchise. 
The voice acting is fine but the cgi for the characters weren’t always the best 🙏 

I think I liked the second one more but the pacing in this is video game perfection and silly serious moments. I could not stop laughing during the whole Chaos Garden scene.

Favorite scene goes to the London heist 👏 

It’s all silly and I was all in once it had the Sonic Adventure 2 helicopter jump and SHADOW WITH A GUN!!! Glad my friends kept me up to speed on the rest of the video game lore.

Keanu is so cute 😭

Incredibly endearing, heart warming and comedically light. 

I feel bad for not catching this in theaters. I hope the cast & crew had a wonderful time making this.

Silliest thing I‘ve seen and I loved it

Saturday morning ahhh cartoon movie
also felt like a nintendo indie game with its level up progression

My favorite frame has to be the establishing shot on the first camp night with the Master Fur Trapper and his dogs

Secondly it has to go to the completed beaver construction, the resemblance to the Tower of Babel killed me

I’ll never forget the theater experience on its release day. Lucky to have caught the IMAX 70mm showing with my brother.
The 10th anniversary re-release made do with a digital IMAX showing in my location but friends made it another memorable experience.

I liked it slightly more this time around as I’ve gotten older. What draws me the most is the sense of redeeming purpose, sacrifice and the exploration of the unknown/ uncertainty.
Is there ever really “the final frontier”? 
Sorry I had to

Still not super big on McConaughey in this one for every scene. Mud is what sold me on his new acting path at the time. I like his character of Interstellar just not the performance enough.

I get nit-picky when it mixes the grounded elements with spoon fed sappy soap opera dialogue. I get it though we must keep the audience engaged after throwing scientific technical jargon. The robots are almost the best characters and that is sci-fi, wanted it to lean into it more with its future technology. We do get a hint of it in the 5th dimension and the element of time.

The strongest bond for keeping me engaged is the personal conflicts that is between the characters in space. But Dr. Mann’s monologue while walking with Cooper makes me laugh, super theatrical.

The relationship of father and daughter is well crafted but I feel bad for the son when I hear the “love transcends time” monologue. Guess we needed a reason for Murph to come back to the farm. At least we are treated to more concepts instead of a bleak cookie cutter sci-fi movie.

However the pay off in that relationship is still endearing. The fight for one is the fight for many. I’ll say my favorite editing moment has to go to Murph sending her first message to Cooper and we cut back to earth when she finishes it.

This movie is a spectacle and I won’t deny its impact. The spinning docking scene still gets me to grip my seat, “No Time for Caution” 🎶 
The production is beautiful and the fixed camera angles on the ships are a wonderful effect to feel like a NASA documentation.

Paul Mescal did his best, I wasn’t super impressed but he def has the facial structure of a Roman marble bust. 
Pedro Pascal felt a bit under used but a nice addition to up the stakes.

Uninspired story but some nice turns. This really was Training Day in Rome with Denzel having fun again.

Nice to see Connie Nielsen, loved her outdoor fauna set alongside the different color birds roaming.

Real close to dropping half a star.

Barton being thrown into this mess by his own design was a funny ride.

At least it is “unique” and an audiovisual experience. Unfortunately it barely pushes itself with its awkward pacing. Moments where I don’t understand how we got from one scene to the next.

Once the movie finished I could not stop thinking I was just held hostage by my grandpa in a story time before I could go out and play with my cousins. 

Sure the message is clear but wow it is extremely spoon fed. At least it is a project he wanted to make, no restrictions.

The more I think about the end frame the more I start to like how it ended. Still not sure how we got there but it’s a nice touch.

Fathom Events brought out the big guns for this by giving it a 3D release 👏 

Striking imagery both haunting and beautiful. All the details I inspected of the animation are insane, even for the smallest things are a wonderful sight. The father having the piano play him 👏 

Props to the jumping mice circus and the theater show/ flying trapeze scenes. Wonder how the planning goes along to get the extravagant framing and the movements working together.

Shout out to the shot where the camera follows the gravy train through the tunnel.
Yeah yeah Alice in Wonderland vibes but thats why it works, the transitions from dream to nightmare is the journey Coraline must persevere. Speaking of transitions, the editing with its dissolve match cuts 👏 🔥 

This may be the movie I will save for theater viewings every time. It deserves that 🙏
