The enthusiasm around the evolution of tech feels almost dubious, or slightly heartbreaking in some regards watching this with hindsight, but also exciting and remarkable. Reminded me of how McKenzie Wark talks about this period in the 90s of discourse abt technology mostly positive. The ‘data thief’ used in this film for cyborg character, is like Wark’s word “hacker”, as being their punk kinda approach to tech, speculative and generative.
