you know how people say things like “we are living through hard times” or “we have a rough ___ years ahead of us”. i see movies like this and think when was there ever any good times. this mindset is certainly tempered by the fact that im still young and seem to be living through a particular rough historical patch of time, but damn watching this movie was just a constant reminder of how virtually nothing has changed except how we consume media (and that got much worse).
just short of a full 10 for me personally. this shit was incredible. i wish i got to see more movies where al pacino and robert de niro get to act alongside each other directly, i was so happy in the scene where they had their conversation face to face. i don’t know why i didn’t realize so many crime games based much of their aesthetic off of this movie alone but it became so clear after watching it. michael…
unlike this director’s previous yuppie movie metropolitan, i actually really enjoyed a lot of the dialogue and melodramas that this movie had to offer. the backdrop of new york in the dying days of disco (like 1979-80 if my timing is right) is really fun to see and the soundtrack the clubbing provided only enhanced how much i liked the movie. there were only 2 good people in this film anyway tho everyone else was either a piece of shit,…
this movie was one of the major ones on my list of never before seen famous movies, and after some college plans fell through as they like to, i decided to sit in my living room and finally watch this one.
WHAT THE FUCK MAN. GOD DAMN THIS SHIT WAS BRUTAL. but it was simultaneously one of the best and most engrossing movies i have seen in a very very long time (harakiri rewatch excluded). holy shit man. and that story flowed so well i barely noticed any run time at all
