halina reijn has taken the tropes of erotic thrillers dominated by male gaze and completely subverted them into something refreshing. she constructs a complex world where the boundaries of pleasure are fluid and subject to exploration, not shaped by male desire. she allows her characters to engage in dialogue and sparks new debates for audience. that’s why we need more female directors.
