Darkly charming, laced with moderate thrills of controversies with Berger's characteristic slow-brewing craft but constantly toying with realism. Conclave, with it's over engulfed shroud of secrecy makes it tiring after few uncoverings to bear the possibility of another one. Not that the Vatican is averse to cascading controversies, but one too many twists maketh Conclave a tourist in the Sistine Chapel of modern greats :(

When it comes to body horror, I've not seen anything as elaborate and imaginative in recent times. But while the concept itself is killer (pun intended), there are logical fallacies and its about 30 mins too long. The craft is excellent, but you could see the climax from a mile away and then it's just indulgence. We've all heard 'something so bad that it's good', well this is something so good that it's bad, albeit slightly. Idea of respecting the balance that's preached in the film is sadly not practiced by the makers. A good watch nevertheless.

Stunning premise almost ruined by the excessive craft. The whole idea has so much potential as a thought-provoking system-shaker and it shows in most parts of its execution except for the very crucial visual language. I was intrigued and bored at the same time with the one take treatment. I knew there's a point to be made, there's gravitas to what's happening and coming, yet I was leaned back and waiting for it to come and land because the one-take…
