You know the feeling of being sad and alone and suddenly finding your perfect match? It could be a beloved pet, a best friend, a boyfriend or girlfriend. And then the fear of losing that loved one and thinking that your reason for existing may disappear? Robot Dreams makes you feel all of this and much more. I felt loneliness, excitement, despair, hope, and tears from my heart – and my eyes, realizing that one can feel fulfilled even when things go very differently than expected.
It's amazing that such a simple style of animation can be so deep and complex, making you think of many people and moments in your life once the final credits roll. And all this without any verbal dialogue, to Norma Desmond's delight. So much better than any generic cgi animation. The setting in the 80s Manhattan sets the tone wonderfully. What a magnificent surprise among the Oscar Nominees.
