Dune: Part Two

There is no one in this room who can stand against me. Your mothers warned you about my coming. Fear the moment.

Something I really appreacite is how different this movie is from the book. The first part is very faithful to the book in of the plot and narrative, and laying down the groundwork for this world and these characters we’ll grow with. This second part though, as an adaptation, is less concerned with narrative faithfulness and more thematic faithfulness. It gets at the heart of the books ideas on political leaders, hero worship and its dangers, and also delves into the actual fight of the Fremen and the tragic romance of Paul & Chani. It’s insane to me how well Villeneuve is able to change so much, and yet it all hits the same way it did reading the book. Insane how this didn’t get a screenplay nomination, since the first one did, because it’s absolutely one of the best book adaptations I’ve seen.

Which to that point, this still remains my best picture of the year and deserved so much more love from the Academy than it has. A film that will truly stand the test of time, no matter its accolades or awards
