The first hour gets bogged down in exposition, but once it gets out of its own way it soars. Incredible set pieces - Tom Cruise remains the world’s most entertaining man - and Tramell Tillman is on scene-stealing form.
This film fixed so many MCU problems in one fell swoop.
Unhappy with crappy CGI? OK, here’s a film with practical action and actual sets.
Too much multiverse talk? OK, we’re only gonna mention it in the very last post credit scene.
Think these films are too scared to say anything of note, undercutting serious moments with humour? Here’s a film where we take mental health, depression and self worth seriously.
Do you feel like these films are focus grouped…
The best performance(s) of Michael B. Jordan’s career to date. Another envelope pushing score from Ludwig Göransson. And a Ryan Coogler vision that’s unshackled by IP. There's an immersive and ambitous energy to this that feels like full fat Coogler in a way that Creed and Black Panthers 1 & 2 - movies which I like, if not love - just aren't. My fave film of 2025 so far.
