Actually Wild Mountain Thyme makes perfect sense when viewed as an act of vengeance by American playwright John Patrick Shanley against Irish playwright Martin McDonagh, in retribution for Three Billboards.

A tense, atmospheric exploration of xenophobia, hypocrisy, cowardice, and the long tail of tragedy set in a small town dependent on faith-based tourism. Shares a lot of DNA with R.M.N. 

Sought this out after seeing Reynicke’s Reinas at Sundance and I’m glad I did.

As with D1ne, Villeneuve’s D2ne isn’t super interested in storytelling as a character-driven thing and thus didn’t really grab me much, but once the edible kicked in and I just let it drift over me I had a great old time. 

Riding the worm: HELLA TIGHT

The footage of the storm rolling in… beautiful.

Super interested in what Julia Hart is doing with genre. This could stand to be just a bit leaner but it’s a sharp, thoughtful movie (with a killer soundtrack).

GODDAMN

Magnificent. Still feels like the future and it was made in 1992. I’m enraptured, I’m ensorcelled, I loved this goddamn movie.

A testament to the narrative utility of a distinctive hair silhouette.
