Overall, loved the vibes and the tension and the twists. It was a gorgeous movie. But the ending dragged and the final sex scene was SO gratuitous.
]]>So cozy! Loved the slower pace and the many food scenes. The ending felt a bit forced.
]]>hit every note, made me laugh, made me cry. perfection. possibly my favorite movie of 2024.
]]>Rewatched for the second time this year and yep, it’s still perfect.
]]>I had more fun watching this than I expected! But I left the movie feeling unsatisfied. This movie didn’t strike me as a “take-down” of Hollywood beauty standards. At best, it was an acknowledgment.
]]>so cozy and fun. everything I want from a movie. very much occupies the same space in my brain as practical magic.
]]>Women’s empowerment through an ostentatious and arrogant male gaze. I could hear the director patting himself on the back when Max said, “It’s your body, Bella.” Loved the costumes though!
]]>the best throuple in cinema
]]>the stomach becoming a mouth will haunt me for the rest of my life.
]]>The romance feels super dated. Dennis Quaid is way too pushy after Ellen Barkin tells him no…he literally has a coworker kidnap her while she’s on a run to bring her to a party against her will. But they had good chemistry, and there were fun moments. I loved the NoLa setting. Didn’t realize romcom noirs were a genre but I’m into it.
]]>Way more of a comedy than the first one, but once I realized that, I enjoyed it SO much. Janelle Monae is a goddess, and I’m glad the movie gave her characters credit for doing literally all of the work—both within the company and in solving the murder mystery.
]]>Unnecessary narration aside, this movie was a whole mood. Super beautiful mashup of The Witch and Over the Garden Wall.
]]>All the horror movie tropes are here, and they’re bloodier than usual. This was a fun, scary watch with no surprises except who walks out alive, which is why I’m giving this three stars instead of two. It’s NOT a progressive, socially-conscious horror movie like the ones we’re seeing more and more these days; with the exception of Mia, the ladies of this movie are completely flat, and (SPOILER) they are all either possessed or die pretty early, serving as blank canvases for gore and desire (ANOTHER SPOILER - naturally there’s a bloody girl-on-girl make out session). Also, the only POC is the first person to die. Ugh. I’d watch it again if a group of friends insisted, but not otherwise.
