Right step for the MCU!
This was entertaining, with authentic personality and characters that felt genuine and interesting. The acting, visuals, style, extreme action, and character development... it was all superb. I was joyous watching this! I would call this the best MCU movie in years. It was fun, and worth seeing. So I'll recommend this great action flick, that had a real and emotional outlook. One of the best super hero movies I've seen, especially in several years.
It was a real joy to see this. And I whole heartedly reccomend it!
]]>Brilliant.
A simple film that captures the non linear direction of everyday life. Especially for Idaho where I will be living soon.
Youth, change, a dysfunctional family, finding connection. As silly as a film this one is, it does not fail to touch on the experience of growing up in a surprisingly realistic feel.
I really laughed, this is one of the most unconventional but funniest films I have seen. And the music is stellar, and the style and cinnemotagrphy is surprisingly striking. I simply just love watching this movie.
No character makes drastic changes, but you can still feel them learn and find their own ways to improve and find redemption with those around them. It's absurd, but real, and genuine, while being hilarious! Truly unique and truly amazing.
This is a must watch comedy! And an unexpected masterpiece that found a way even with its low budget/box office; to warm the hearts of movie goers over the years.
It is absolutely worth seeing this great and comical classic.
]]>I know this movie has its problems...
With too many characters to balance.
Rushed writing and exposition that can feel redundant.
Yes, I know these things...
And yet.
I couldn't help but feel blown away!!
When was the last time a movie has been this entertaining? And had fascinating themes it covered. For me this movie was a win/win and was everything I hoped it would be. It was clear that sag/aftra would impact this one, and yet it still delivered even with its problems. I laughed, felt shocked, and sat on the edge of my seat. I truly had fun, which is what I needed.
The connections, ideas, everyone working together to overcome an impossible challenge. I loved it. The beggining, submarines, tensions, and that plane! It was a spectacular sight. I know some people were disappointed that this one felt less like a continuation of dead reckoning and more of a finale to the series, but I think it what the franchise had to have. It was a worthy ending to a series that has been truly meaningful to cinema. Thank you IMF!!
So even with its issues, it had me thinking, engaged, and watching with joy. Which you simply do not get often with blockbusters. But here I really appreciated the send-offs and what was said here. Some plot points didn't hit as hard, like the presidential scenes, but for every short coming, I felt that the movement of this film overcame any damage of slower scenes. I truly loved this one.
This is definitely one where time will tell how good this film really is. It's hard to say, but my thoughts on this film may change in time, like dead reckoning, but until then I will praise this movie as being dang good. Imperfect, but a fine movie indeed. He had my trust, and Tom Cruise delivered.
Watch this in theaters while you can! I'm sure revisiting this film will be fascinating in the future. At the very least you will have a memorable experience now, and have even more to say later on.
So let's go to the theaters, and check this one out.
]]>Watched on Tuesday May 27, 2025.
]]>Very fun! And one of the most solid action movies of recent years!
I really do think this movie is aging better from its initial box office response.
Tom Cruise is always entertaining to watch, maybe the last true movie star we have. Some good actors here! I'd also like to point out the Cary Elwes scenes, he had some fun and memorable moments.
I love the Sevastapol scenes and the set up, and the Rebecca Ferguson lore. This movie established the overall story arc quite well. And I loved its parallels to past films, it really gives the feel that yes these movies are coming to an end.
I was engaged and I had a real good time, Which is hard to find these days in a an action movie. I will definitely give it credit for that! But what I will say that the stakes in this film felt pretty low, which is my biggest critique.
Final reckoning establishes how serious the threat of the entity is. But in this one, without knowing the coming plans of the entity, the stakes are not fully clear, which detracts from the action, it would be good have a why for why the characters are fighting tooth and nail for the key.
Overall I still really loved this film, this is my favorite franchise of recent years, and even with some small flaws, I'm glad we get to have these movies as a conclusion to this momentous series.
I recommend. A solid movie!
]]>The structure of this film is really engaging and greatly builds intrigue. But I just think this films ending fell flat.
I'll at least give credit for the unique style and attempt. But the puzzle pieces did not connect satisfyingly, and as clear and deserving as the films writing felt warranted to give its audience. Especially with how interesting it was until the last 20 minutes.
Some of the acting was amazing, but I can't love this movie. A film that wastes potential is the biggest loss cinema can have. And here is a case of that phenomena.
]]>Fading in between consciousness and slumber at midnight, watching this fever dream of a movie. Is a unforgettable experience, would highly recommend.
Sometimes It's good to just watch dumb and pure entertaining and silly whimsy.
Although I do not think this will be ed as a classic. But rather a brief memory of a moment in pop culture.
]]>It was real fun.
Watch this with some friends or with a big audience!
Average weekend at BYU-Idaho.
]]>Stupidly brilliant!
A forgotten masterpiece. I find the style charming.
They'll never make a movie like this again.
That tunnel closing scene traumatized young child me!
I appreciate this film.
]]>I don't think this movie will age well
]]>A classic on the human spirit.
To live, to endure, find your way even when you are lost and missing those who are no longer with you.
To feel the sand, the air, to be alive is something we often take for granted.
This is a fun and brilliant film, even after the 2010s flair and style has fallen out of fashion. This took me back to the days of watching 3-D movies, and Redbox! And that is priceless.
I'd recommend this movie! especially to those who love sci-fi.
]]>A good representation of youth in war, and innocence in propagandic culture. But change is possible.
To grow and to keep living despite the many tragedies around you is all you can do, to honor those who didn't make it. To endure and to live free is the way of peace even amidst the pains of life.
Great movie! I would definitely recommend this fascinating film.
]]>Profound and stunning.
Words cannot express the meaning of this movie, but music can.
Revenge, time, family, balance, everything is here. It is simply wondrous and worth pondering over. As it truly is one of the most fascinating films ever made. Very well crafted, and one that etches itself into your mind. Just like the music within the film.
It is deeply intriguing, and very worth of watching! Truly one of the most unique and distinct films ever made, but also one of the greatest films of all time.
]]>Criminally underrated. This is one of the coolest movies ever made.
Sure it is complex, but as long as you watch with subtitles you will see one of the most interesting and impressive action films made in recent years.
The filmmaking is gobstoppingly insane, as well as the soundtrack, and premises. None of this should work, but it does for me.
This is a movie that your feelings will most definitely evolve on over time. I would recommend taking another look years after it's turbulent release.
If you want a mindblowing and intense Nolan experience. You won't be disappointed here.
]]>Great chemistry, and a great time!
I enjoyed watching the vibrant and effective romanticsm told through suprisingly good story telling. There were some solid jabs at Hollywood, but also credit and honor to the many unsung heroes of the industry.
Very fun blockbuster! it should've done better at the box office. Ryan Gosling and Emily blunt killed it here. I'd recommend.
A very solid movie
]]>I was frustrated the entire movie.
Can't say I was bored, but the characters repeat mistakes and make such nonsensical decisions, it can drive a wise man to insanity.
Also I watched this off a seemingly bootlegged chinese DVD that glitches every few seconds. I couldve been discouraged, but i actually thought it added character to this strange film.
I had fun watching with the family, laughing at the stupid plot, talking about what we would do in the scenario, and berating the characters for making foolish choices that should lead to their demise. (natural selection)
This isn't amazing, but it is possible to enjoy this simple and dumb entertainment. You can have a good time, but this had definitely been a weak spot for the quiet place franchise so far.
(For the record: there is nothing I would've done the same if I was in their situation. I don't care how much I love my pet, I'm letting them go free)
]]>A beautiful and worthy conclusion to the original trilogy.
Each movie has its pro's and con's compared to the others. Again this has some weaknesses, but also some of the highest highs of the franchise. I can never make up my mind on which movie I could call the best.
I think Last Crusade has the best ending and structure, the dynamic between Indiana and Henry Sr is some of the greatest chemistry in film, an unforgettable tale of father and son. I also think this one has the best themes that fit the overall story for Indiana.
I don't know what else i can say. The orignal trilogy Will always be some of my favorite and my most beloved movies. And I absolutely reccomend them. They are all fantastic, and they are amazing.
]]>From the opening moment of this film it makes itself clear with a Broadway dance number sung in mandarin, that this will not be a rehashed sequel. But a bold explosion of new flavor
I go back and forth with this movie, but I do appreciate the action, the darker tones, and even some extra eroticism. This is real fun and close to perfection, it does not get nearly enough credit for being one of the greatest indiana jones and action films ever made.
Man I love these films, ever since i was a young child, these have been my favorites.
It isn't for everyone, but if you find yourself in the right mood, ready for some clever action. Temple of Doom will continue to be a classic option, ready to excite
]]>For me this is the quintessential Christmas movie for me. Pure Christmas spirit
Elevates the stakes and style of the first film, to produce what I would claim to be the greatest Christmas film
It's very fun, and will remain a classic. I enjoy it
]]>I'll stick by my claim that this movie will never hit as hard as it does on a VCR
There are some great moments, but to me; many aspects of this film are overshadowed by the sequel which does everything much better
A holiday classic, watch with the family, and get into the Christmas spirit type of film. Always a solid choice
I'll recommend it for the youth, but it will never be the same for the rest of us as we age.
Still I'll give credit to this movie, that was always there for me growing up
It was fun and thrilling.
No deep analysis. Just a good time
Would recommend for the holidays
]]>The greatest American animated film ever made.
The animation, story, score.
Every single thing is stunning in this film.
This is a perfect example of using parallels and striking imagery to convey the deepest stories.
It is miraculous.
]]>Some fun moments and style. But it generally fails to intrigue and engage. It lacks the magic of the original stage production, and merely feels like another rehashing of a story that has already been told much better
It was alright, there was decent choreography and a few entertaining performances. But it just didn't work for me. Then again It seems that i am not quite the demographic for this film. I would recommend the 90s matilda film instead
This movie feels the same as eating plain rice, you don't hate it, it's just bland
]]>Perfect.
There is something about this film that remains so captivating and interesting!
I once watched this movie everyday for a summer.
First of all the film is truly unique, with fascinating shots, one of the best soundtracks, and actors at the top of their game. Everything works. It is truly special to me, and is continually meaningful (especially with its themes)
That ending! With everything coming together.
This is my personal favorite of a movie. Some may hate, but i will always call it perfect. This is treasure.
It is genuinely amazing.
]]>An endearing piece of historical folk. With of course; some of the most stunning visuals in cinema history
Love, money, dreams. You can't have it all, and eventually you might lose what you have, everyone left forsaken
There is plenty to absorb and appreciate in days of heaven. It will continually be one of the most amazing stories for audiences to reflect on
Even the actors, there is something so Americana and perfect about the way they fit in, great cast!incere film...
All I can say is that it takes time, and the editing isn't always perfect. But this is a boundless and important film that I would absolutely recommend. Simply beautiful
]]>Fascinating.
I'm gonna try to review this from a non religious perspective.
My mother grew up in the same ward as the producers, she re sitting in the theater as people laughed at the strange and unitentionally hilarious film. She felt so bad, but it was true... in many ways this movie was simply a flop.
But is it as bad in hindsight? I think this movie has a few charms, the actors did well with the material they had, I'd like to point out the laman actor in particular for giving a fun performance. And even the weirder moments like the Laman jump scare at the end, the shocking scene, and much more, they all felt entertaining to see, some scenes are so jarring that it's genuinely hysterical.
The costuming and sets aren't amazing, but quite impressive given how small the budget for this was.
My biggest problem was the pacing, it really hurts the fun of this film, with the movie feeling like an endless dream, one you can't how it began or how long you've been in it. Must be how Lehi felt. The runtime is not justified with the lack of bold direction, it often just feels boring.
Still I liked a lot of shots, not all of the filmmaking was bad, I can only critique the poor pacing as well as this films failure in presenting itself as a classic epic, it adapts material, but lacks conviction to turn it into a powerful adaptation. I still appreciated the attempt to at least humanize some of the characters.
Overall I think this movie is a terrible retelling. But there are still some redeeming pieces and moments that make it worthwhile to watch.
A failure of presenting subtle thematics, but a success of low budget cinema. I liked it, but I don't know if I would recommend this for a non LDS audience.
Also has the craziest cliff-hanger of all time!
]]>Scary on how fast a politician's ambition can lead to giving up self values and instead adapt a ruthless and extremely detrimental plan to simply gain . This goes for most politicians, it's horrifying
Quite relevant. There are many extreme ideologies that can be so willfully abused to attempt the achievement of power
Politics is despicable
]]>Amazing on every level.
The pinnacle of animation and storytelling
Depth, scale, stunning beauty, contrasts, and nuance
And perhaps holding the greatest soundtrack ever made
it is beautiful to have a hero, who is humble, who you root for, who is mighty, but is still non traditional and does not fight for merely one side
The end of nature's protection. We must work to create a world with less conflict and one that is sustainable
Something about this truly sticks with me. It is genuinely one of my favorites, the most complex and heartfelt epic
Truly one of the greatest films ever made
]]>"Talk. Please stop singing!"
A real quote from this movie
I liked some aspects of this film, there were pieces that felt like a natural continuation of the story: Particularly Arthur's journey throughout. But there are some real stinker features that really do hold this movie back
I didn't hate every music number, but it was often so unnecessary, it was painful to see the plot drag. The music often even harmed the pacing and the atmosphere.
Also that cartoon opening felt horrendously out of place. One example I will point out of useless scenes, is that number Lady Gaga sings outside of the court building
So many scenes were unnecessary. But was this movie even needed at all? I think that is the real fundamental problem of this film. Simply existing. The original movie works better in making a point, and now we have a movie that undermines it many ways.
Still I didn't hate it, perhaps the best was made out of a bad situation. Or maybe Todd Phillips was trying to pull a "Freddy got fingered" on DC and the Incel audience, for being forced into making this film, and for people worshipping Joker.
It was not a great film, but wether that was purposefully intended, ignorantly and accidently made into, or a combination of everything that could've gone wrong... going wrong
🤷♂️
I still sort of enjoyed this movie, better then most make it out to be. Still wouldn't enthusiastically recommend it. It was disappointingly and interestingly alright
Also where did all of those cigarettes come from? 😭
]]>It's hard to even talk about this one. It resonates profoundly, not just as a movie, but even to my past
Most have a deep appreciation of their father, even if he was flawed, he was a hero.
But there comes a point in life, where you realize your family are just people living, searching, and discovering things for the first time just as you get to experience. It is painful to come to with the reality that your family and relationships are not the way you had believed, and even wanted it to be. There are a lot of things we want to escape, but no matter how far we can run, we will not find what we look for if we have ignored what was right in front of us
We spend our entire lives searching for reason, but it cannot directly be understood by humanity's objective knowledge. So what can be done? Accept that you cannot know everything, but stay true to what you do know, there is more to life, and it can only be seen when you appreciate your loved ones, and every simple detail of life. The air we breathe, the rustle of trees, and waves of the seas
There are other existential themes that can be explored, but these are the ones that stuck out to me on this watch
Sometimes we feel like love is too difficult, we box ourselves, and want to be alone. But finding connection, and to try, to no longer hide. That is meaningful!
On a technical level, the visuals, and soundtrack is genuinely superb, amazing cinematography and resonating sound. I seeing this in theaters, it was an unforgettable experience. I feeling like my spine actually shivered when I saw the contrasting and bold color of Neptune pierce the screen. For acting: I just loved seeing Brad Pitt and his search portrayed, and Tommy Lee Jones gave a solid performance as well
All in all, this movie isn't for everyone, but it checks out on every aspect of film that I love. From themes, dialogue, visuals, and beautiful music, among many other notable work I could praise! This movie means a lot to me, and I love it.
Especially if you love sci-fi, and existential depth, I would recommend this film. It is truly great!
]]>A great character study!
Remains intriguing and disturbing. Worth reflecting on.
With so much thematic material to chew on. This is a genuinely fascinating watch
I think the discourse around this film, is often misrepresentative or even unfounded. I just recommend to watch and see for yourself what this film is
You can't call him a great guy, but you certainly can't call him wrong
A real tradgedy, yet It's hard to call it as such. I might have to come back to this review, as it's hard to write my full thoughts on this rare kind of movie
The last 20 minutes really elevate this film, the set up was laid, and Arthur becomes a legendary symbol. It is quite the sight to see
And of course Joaquin Phoenix gives an amazing performance, seriously one of the most convincing and effective work in recent cinema, and even all-time acting. Very amazing!
This is an essential to see! I recommend
]]>Great!
Well crafted, with many layers. A very rewarding watch, and thankfully a non basic nor traditional mystery flick
I love the performances, and especially the aethetics and style
A fun film, would definitely recommend!
]]>Quite interesting!
There is a reason the battle royale genre has become popular. But this film is considered the beginning and is the most interesting to me
As cool as it is to see people die In interesting ways. I think the film truly excels at giving a story that is grounded within a high school environment. Many characters have love and drama between one another, and their personal conflicts bleed into the fight when given the chance. Concepts of age and rebllion in society is also done well, i really enjoyed the story. It all makes up for a fascinating experience, witnessing the tragic results of conflicting personal ideals. The best movies use showing rather then telling, and I think Battle Royale is a perfect example of this method
It all works on multiple levels. Even as a straight forward tradgedy. You only leave wishing more could have made it. How sad it is to reflect on what could've been. I think this movie is one that is difficult to discuss the cleverness of, as the murder plots overshadow many of the deeper elements that make the story so compelling
Regardless, I would recommend a watch to whoever desires a intriguing and thoughtful film. Go and see this!
]]>Promising premises, only to become another basic horror flick. With the same traditional tropes
I know the pool is magic, but the logic for some of the weird events is never explained. Doesn't help the case for this film. An example: My favorite moment of the film was probably that pool reverse shot with the coin, but after thinking about it. It really makes no sense in how the directions could've flipped?
I did like the set up, and the reveals of how the system works. That one scene with the old Asian lady was great! Perfect creepiness, lived up to potential. But overall I was not impressed, and the plot made me scratch my head. So despite decent production work, I rank it this low
Quick note: what did the family even do after the movie, they knew what happened, did they the police? Get an investigation, hold a funeral. Or even keep it a secret, but surely someone would notice the disappearance... the implications of the movie's poor writing is painful to ponder
Weird things keep happening? Just leave the pool alone 😭
It was alright, but even to horror enthusiasts I wouldn't recommend this
]]>Practical effects are best!!
A solid production in every measure, the set is beautiful, lighting and shot composure is lovely, and the effects are stunning. One of the great movies that has set the standard for not only Sci fi, but for all films to come. Everything is impressive, especially for 1979. Thank you for the classic bangers Ridley Scott. Sigourney Weaver is also worth noting, a truly great actor!
One of the classics. A must-see film for those interested in the important and greatest that cinema has to offer. Would recommend!
]]>This review may contain spoilers.
Witty and entertaining! With a very sentimental ending
I will say the hollywoodification of the story cuts into the real fun and meaning of the original real game of tag
Besides committing actual crimes, the devotion of Jerry is quite douchy and unrealistic
I know he learns by the end, but he always missed the point of the game, and did all he could to stay away from his friends for decades just to uphold a title? Not a great friend, more like a buzz kill. Also faking a miscarriage is absolutely unrespectable. And if he had truly cared for his wedding, he should've just taken the tag
I don't even have to look into the true story, to realize that the characters actions were escalated to make for an interesting script, but now a lot of them feel like bad people. Which goes against the style and message of these kinds of films
I enjoyed watching, but some of it was a little hollow. The real guys are awesome, but it is not always respected in this adaptation. Not a bad film, but it sure has elements that hurt it's story
]]>Been on the list for a while. And it sure lives up to the hype! Especially in that last moment
A movie I'm gonna have to rewatch
The line being blurred between reality and what is in the mind is done so extraordinary well. It is genuinely perfect here, even on one watch I would call it the best of the twisted psychological films I've seen, just with its sheer ability to surprise and continually break down your expectations. Quite the experience!
I'm gonna rewatch sometime (for me this usually means examining and re-scoring the film, now that I have new depth and understanding and even appreciation)
Not an easy watch, but if you're for the genre, and if you've never seen or just want to lose your mind again. This is one of the most unique cinematic experiences. I would recommend watching it at least once when your ready
]]>Everyone does their part well. Camera work is quite unique and exciting
The kind of movie you watch with the whole family, even becoming a favorite to watch together. Just a nice and grand time to watch
A lovely story, with lots of joy even in its twisted world. If you want a model 90s style film, blast from the past. I would highly recommend Matilda!
]]>A great comedy! A genuine classic. The ambience and dialogue is superb, it's no wonder this has become a cinema favorite over the years
The only real problems I have go down to plot discrepancies, especially with the endings. An example being the J. Edgar Hoover call being unexplained In the Scarlett ending. Also a few of the sexual jokes didn't age well, I would've limited them if I made this today. But regardless: the lines and manic energy, and acting is just immeasurable in its fun and entertainment! All of the actors give amazing performances, I could say good things for all. But Tim Curry is worth noting as a generational performer, perfect job is given here
A memorable comedy, If you go in with the right mindset. I would call this one of the best and truly hilarious films to watch. I would definitely recommend Clue! Will always be a niche favorite, one that grows on me the more I see it
]]>Pinnacle of Harold Lloyd
What a great movie, with gags and humor that is mesmerizing, holds up very well! As well as that unbeatable characterization from Harold, he is a phenomenal actor. You just love to see his antics, and whether he'll make it big
I would call this the best gate-way film to get into the silent film genre. I would absolutely recommend this! Much more then most films!
]]>Bigfoot review #3
Turns out this is not a real bigfoot movie. But it sure feels like it the whole way through
I liked the Macho Brad actor the best
This movie gets points for being a great found footage film. A lot of interactions and dialogue feel real, and the way the story unfolded mostly made sense. I was positively surprised on how the interesting some of the conversations were. I would call this is the most re-watchable of the bigfoot films i have reviewed as of yet
But this films falls flat, especially by the end. It tries to tackle this government virus that transforms people, and although the makeup and setup is decent. It really looks silly and ridiculous to see the actors fight each other as zombies, with the quality of film, lack of ability, and taking itself seriously... it was a novel idea, that just did not work out at the end
I think this movie should've just stuck to the bigfoot route, it was set up, it would've made sense, and wouldve been achievable to the film-makers. But it sadly did not reach its full potential, much like the bigfoot films I have seen
Well it was entertaining to see at least. If you are into watching small produced, low budget, monster paranoia films. I just might recommend this flick, but other wise all would be alright to miss out on seeing this. Still I had a fun time!
]]>Just an awesome movie!
Reminds me of how superhero films are supposed to be. Pure joy!
Not perfect, but a film that is always aware with witty commentary, great action and tributes, and a solid duo. The emotional parts, especially with wolverine were nice to see. By far it was my favorite part of the film. Seeing Deadpool bond and grow as a character with Wolverine only to become friends and redeemed characters! Its just fantastic
I had a lot of fun with this watch, but it is still more meaningful if you've seen the X men films and even the MCU. Although not flawless, if the MCU can maintain the heart and fun of it's past saga as well as the heart of this film. I still have a little hope for its future
If you want a great and simple watch, I would definitely recommend watching this merry and amusing film!
]]>One of the greats. Only more relevant over time.
Genuinely insane on how how accurate the satire was, perfectly predicted the modern absurdity and loose morals of the media industry. Money controls everything!
The speeches and writing was so fantastic!
Not much to say with a film so profound, i think the dialogue is perhaps the best of the best among all films i have ever seen, with wonderful and powerful acting, and themes and concepts that can dwell continyally with a viewer
A powerful movie
Go watch. That is all I can say. But this is indeed one of the most layered and what I would declare to be one of the greatest and important films to ever touch the silver screen, it has meaning to learn from
so witness! and discover
]]>What a fascinating film
It's just amazing to see this weird puppet world come to life. It feels authentic, like it could really exist
The production is really impressive, especially for its time. It Is eye candy, so beautiful to see!
Grading by the pure practical work and production quality. This has to be one of the most interesting and impressive feats of cinema
Also the soundtrack is wonderful! It fits the story quite well. One of my personal favorite themes
There is so much to adore! But there were a few moments that are held back by poor pacing, and the limitations of what film-makers could acomplish back when this was made. All in all this movie still holds up quite well
This is one of those movies, that fluctuates every viewing. But with its wonder and as I once appreciated when I was young. I am sure I will come to love this movie even more as time es
]]>Wow.
Yeah I would call this the best action flick of the 2010s
Cast was solid. Writing keeps you on edge. And the action itself is just phenomenal. My eyes were glued the whole time.
Great to see the darker tone and stakes, these movies keep getting better, or at least on par with one another. It's also nice to see Ethan Hunt have his morals tested, and to see his growth. As amazing as the action is, these movies have much more to say. I love it. And I look forward to what's next in this franchise
Works even better with a rewatch. I would absolutely recommend.
What a fun movie! This is one of the most renowned action movies for a reason. It is spectacular!!
]]>I can't believe I'm rating this as high as i am. This might be one of, if not the most interesting and entertaining films I've ever seen
I don't know what it is, that is so compelling. On rewatch I might just call it too ridiculous and stupid!
But life is stupid. People take different meanings out of it. But ultimately it is just a bizzare mess. And it would be silly to not treat it as absurd as it truly is.
This is one of the few surreal films that has pulled off being exceptional, fulfilling it's intentions
That opening scene is amazing!
The production and budget is insane on this monster of a film. The practical effects and camera work are surprisingly stunning. Weirdly and unexpectedly some of the best I've seen in a film
Yes I will need a rewatch! But for now I'm giving it a 4 and a 1/2 for the absurd feelings and enjoyment from this strange film
Maybe im finally warmed up to appreciate surreal films. I guess we'll see.
Life weird. Movie weird!
]]>The faces say it all
The camera work is unmatched. A striking and provocative story brought into the perfect medium with Kubricks visionary sense. Another example of his genius
This is one of those movies that needs time to marinate in the mind to be fully appreciated. A project that has new layers unraveled with each viewing. Dialogue and all too true satire, with characters and events that form into an wider picture. Coming to face with the duality of man
A brilliant style, hard to do well. Two halves of a film. Each showing the different ways that war transforms and dehumanizes
I'll have some deeper analysis on rewatches. But I'm busy for now. Would reccomend. Rewatch may be needed for all
I'll give this 5 stars one day... when I'm a wiser man
]]>A quite realistic look on addiction, and it's impact on family
The style was amazing, I loved the cinematography and direction, and how the story works as a compilation. An effective film
Timothee Chalamet genuinely is a great actor, he serves exactly what he needs to represent in his roles. And then goes past expectations, and sets the standard for others
There are some great moments that are powerful with real emotion
Not much else to say, good movie. A solid watch. Would definitely reccomend!
]]>This review may contain spoilers.
Willem Dafoe!! Elias is the best man!
The style, natural progression, actors, small interactions. It all made for an impressive viewing. This of course isn't the greatest war film, or even Viet Nam war film (I am a sucker for that genre!) But the way the events of the story unfolded, it was seemless with a beautiful intricate narrative. There were a lot of details and conversations as well that perfectly capture the themes of the movie. It all works together to form a unique war film. Bad things happen to everyone, theres no one to root for. Everyone just seems like an asshole. No matter how understandable their motivation is
Even when Barnes finally died. I didn't feel as joyful or vengant as I thought I would. No one appears to be fully right or wrong, the film subtly is able to acompish conveying these difficult concepts. Other films have done it, but it Is unique and refreshing here. Hard to explain, captivating to see
