Smart, edge of your seat, horror movie from the writers of A Quiet Place. A nail-biting little gem of a film that never lets up from start to finish. Grant, Thatcher and East are all individually gripping in their own unique roles, making the whole thing entirely believable and therefore ever more harrowing.

Jesse Armstrong continues to explore the same worlds, characters and themes as he did with Succession, but with his latest project he takes these ideas to their absolute limits, pushing the narrative to the very extreme. It's bold and ballsy, but not as entertaining as you'd think.

The dialogue and the characters don't work half as well as they did with Succession and the story starts to get a little repetitive by the halfway point, but by the end it kind of won me over. It goes so hard that it nearly works by the end. Very clever and topical writing as always from Armstrong though.

A gutsy comedy that 'feels' scarily accurate in its depiction of tech billionaires and our sorry future, it was just missing some heart or someone/something to care about within the story.

I watching this one when I was far too young to be watching it, so it has nostalgic value for sure. With the release of the latest entry in the franchise, Bloodlines, I felt compelled to rewatch the first for a little bit of nostalgia.

The franchise kicks off with a fun intro to this quirky world and unique concept. The premise is pretty interesting and pretty much carries the whole film. There's also some good kills and a few intriguing twists amongst all the silly mayhem.

Unfortunately, the dialogue and the acting can be subpar at times and the premise doesn't really lead anywhere in the end. It all becomes a bit repetitive.

But I've heard good things about the new one. And for nostalgia sakes, I'll probably end up rewatching the first trilogy in time.

Oh man I loved this. Saw it with the family and it genuinely made me tear up multiple times. A total upgrade on the original in every way, except for the visuals (which is standard for Disney's entire live action filmography).

The script is probably the biggest upgrade, which finally allows the original story and characters to shine through all the quirkiness and randomness.

There are numerous script changes which all help to make the narrative more believable and logical, whilst trimming the fat. The aliens on earth are a joy, bringing to mind classic kids films of the 90s/00s.

It's a great cast on the whole and Stitch is downright adorable. The live action adaptation is a lot funnier and I just connected with this one on an emotional level so much more. A true surprise, that sured all my expectations.

This is going to be a real crowd-pleaser and I cannot wait to watch it again on Disney+. This and Pete's Dragon are the only live action adaptations that have made this whole venture seem worth it in my opinion.

I just don't get the love for this one. Maybe it's all about nostalgia and I just don't watching this or gelling with it as a kid.

It's beautifully crafted with stunning handdrawn animation. The alien world and the alien characters are fascinating works of art in themselves, as is the Disney-fied Hawaii.

But it is an odd film on the whole. One that combines genres and characters that just don't really work together. It always feels random and quirky and I can never really get into it.

I get the emotional aspects, but again, it never moves me personally. I'm actually looking forward to watching the live action adaptation though, I think it might actually work better and be a better fit for this odd tale.

Gorgeously shot, beautifully acted. The music is just outstanding, it's unlike anything you've heard before. The story is gripping and deeply moving. And it's got vampires in it!

There are numerous standout scenes throughout the film that are purely cinematic and highly emotive. It just keeps building and building, defying expectations with each new setup. A mashup of genres, ending in something fresh and entirely unique.

Finished the bank holiday off with this average and at times irritating offering.

The voice cast is surprisingly weak and the film is inundated with crude attempts at modernising a classic British franchise. We get endless pop songs, down-with-the-kids dance sequences and a tirade of cringey quips from our unlikable lead. The film is littered with lazy joke after joke after joke, but some do work.

It's fast paced and loud, which means it takes a while to get used to, but there are glimmers of hope in there. Gleeson is fantastic, the slapstick humour works for the most part. And the story attempts at character arcs and pulls on your emotions enough to make it watchable.

The script is superb, tackling challenging topics with ease. The animatronics and the cinematography are equally as good. The characters are unique and iconic in their own ways. I love Ferdinand the duck! And of course our titular piggie.

Painfully long, meandering, frustrating and unsettling. It all makes for a tough watch, but there is still, somehow, greatness in there and so much to unpack.

Phoenix is outstanding and some of the themes that Aster explores are relatable and thought provoking. The depictions of anxiety and guilt really spoke to me. It's also beautifully shot and clearly painstakingly crafted.

The opening segment was nerve racking and stress-enducing, but nothing less than fascinating. After we leave the city, the film kind of falls apart though, meandering through storylines, settings and genres.

It brings to mind Kaufman and Aronofsky's Mother! which will give you an idea of how much you will love or hate it. But for me there was lots to ire and lots to hate, so it kind of ends as an average rating, but yeah, this is an odd yet innovative film on the whole.

As predicted, Culkin gives an award-winning performance in this understated road trip dramedy from actor/writer/director Jesse Eisenberg.

Eisenberg does a great job of feeding information throughout the runtime, giving us a wider understanding of the cousins and their history as the story unfolds. It's a great character study, exploring many important themes.

The group at the centre of this film are extremely watchable too, providing some of the best moments. But Eisenberg and Culkin's chemistry is also top notch.

There's a lot of emotions in this, but I feel like overall the film was just missing a little something extra to make it outstanding. It kind of fizzles out by the end, intentionally perhaps, yet not quite delivering on it's earlier promises.

That said, this is assured filmmaking with some great acting involved, that brings rightful relevance back to its two leads. Hopefully they can make even better movies together or separately in the future. Eisenberg is a promising filmmaker and I'd love to see more of Culkin now too.

And I'm still pondering the ending some time later. It definitely gets you thinking.

There's an important message at the centre of this and the film ends on a real high. You just need to get through the first third to get to the good stuff in the middle onwards and there is a slight dip before the finale.

Struggled through this one. I imagine it got a lot of praise at the time due to circumstance. People were desperate for that cinematic experience in 2020.

Just like Disney did with Hamilton, Apple deliver on an excellent recording of a hit stage show. Come From Away is a heartwarming and emotive true life story, brought to our living rooms in all it's glory.

I practically had a lump in my throat for nearly all of the runtime. Anything related to 9/11 just hits differently when you lived through it and were old enough to that horrifying day. And the subject matter is handled respectfully.

The production is professionally made, effortlessly mixing humour and heartache. The cast are great and the production is well shot. I'd say the only downside is that the songs aren't that memorable. I it I'm not a massive musical fan. But the story really elevates this one.

All in all a great watch. And I'd love to see more stage shows get the same treatment.

I mean it's just inoffensive entertainment at the end of the day.

Derrickson does a surprisingly good job at juggling multiple genres, tackling romance, action, sci-fi horror and espionage. Teller and Taylor-Joy have serious chemistry, which carries the entire film. The first section works well, establishing our two main leads and the rest is just watchable genre fair.

It is getting a little tiring watching films that are nearly completely shot on green screens though. I do miss the old special effects, but I understand the need for change.

This movie won't blow anyone's minds and it is literally everything you've seen before, but it works well enough and the central romance justifies the three stars.

As I feared, Paddington just isn't the same without Paul King or Sally Hawkins. But I think that the main issue is actually the change of location. Setting the third film mainly in Peru just never feels right. I think the joy of Paddington is in his interactions with unimpressed Brits in very mundane situations. In the jungle, there is very little opportunity for any of that.

We get the weakest villain by far (which is kind of a rehash of Hugh Grant's anyway), the story is really predictable and uninspired. The CGI is just off-putting.

Some of the franchise's humour is still here and Paddington is as adorable as ever, but the magic is well and truly lost. Really disappointing. Cute ending though.

Of course, the first two films are so good that this one just cannot compete, but it is still a watchable, heartwarming movie even with all of the negatives.

It's one of those films where literally all the best bits are in the trailer. That been said, the deaths are all gory delights that bring to mind the tongue-in-cheek humour of the Final Destination films. And there is a lot of fun to be had in that.

The Monkey has a good premise behind it, great visuals and a game cast. Unfortunately, the tone never quite sits right, bouncing between horror and comedy. That awkward juggling of tones matched with a needless narration and some freeze frame moments kind of pull you out of the movie.

It's a shame, as there is clearly a fun story behind the Stephen King novel and Perkins can create some great visuals. But the script doesn't always work and it is hard to care about the characters when there is so much death on display.

Like many sequels to highly successful, original films, the filmmakers behind Shrek 2 give audiences more of what made the first so likeable. We get even more fairy tale characters, more satire, a bigger soundtrack and clearly a bigger budget. This makes Shrek 2 a real crowd pleaser, but it also means we lose a little of its spark and originality from the first.

Everything that we loved from the first is back though. And yet the visuals are even better than in the first. The story is still just as funny and clever, and the soundtrack is great. It just feels like more of the same.

And hey, I'm not complaining, it makes for a great, fast-paced watch. But I still think the first is the best. Fight me!

I must've watched this a million times (probably 20, 30+ times at least) now and it never gets old. Extremely quotable, excellent voice work, a memorable soundtrack, endlessly inventive and effortlessly hilarious. Iconic characters and a smart, satirical screenplay. No wonder this franchise became such a hit. I just love it.

Revenge flicks hit hard because we live in a time filled with injustice. This particular revenge flick succeeds because it feels so believable. A truly captivating watch.

The build up is super tense and the action is expertly handled. The first half of this Netflix original is just epic. Once we have to offload the background, it loses a little steam and there's maybe too much corny dialogue. But then it's all redeemed in an action-packed finale.

Aaron Pierre is superb in the lead role. Whilst the direction from Saulnier is on-point. A nail-biting drama that deserves a higher rating on most platforms. Inspiring and highly entertaining.

I hate this new trend in animated 'kids' films where everything is super-stylised, overstuffed and overstimulating, but I suppose that is just going with the times. And I don't think you can really call this a kids film. These flaws aside, I can see why this is such a highly praised film though.

There's some great characters in this one, the animation can be breathtaking at times and everything comes together nicely by the end. There's also a great message in there, but no, this is not a kids film. Or not how they should be anyway.

First time watching this Disney classic. I found the animation to be stunning and Dumbo is very cute. Obviously of its time and hasn't aged particularly well, but it does have its moments.

Was not expecting a hallucination sequence, that felt like the best and worst part of the film all at once. A showcase for the animation and innovation of Disney, yet it doesn't fit with the family audience and drags a little.

It's a flawed feature, but one that was probably groundbreaking at the time. I'd happily watch a modern updating, but not in live action form.

Felt like a bit of a cash-in as it plays out very similarly to Rocket Man. A film about a serial killer, yet there's little to no tension for the majority of the film. Oddly paced and narratively sparse. I get the importance of the themes and the message, but I think it is poorly executed. It's watchable, for Kendrick alone, but a real missed opportunity overall.

Definitely needs to be seen on the biggest screen possible. I much preferred watching this one in IMAX the first time around than on streaming, it's got to be said.

Unfortunately, the film lost a little of its magic on a second viewing too, possibly due to the smaller screen issue and the predictability that comes with repeated viewings, but it mostly still holds up regardless of these main points.

Romulus can be terrifying and tense with a cinematic edge that is befitting of the franchise. A great cast and great direction, just needed a stronger script.
