Barn-burner of a movie with a musical sequence midway through that’s the best thing I’ve seen in a theater in years. Coogler’s best since maybe Creed? Maybe Fruitvale Station tbh?
Either way, best movie of the still young year.

The opening moments of Brady Corbet's intimate epic of mid-century immigration are of a chiaroscuro portrait of László Tóth's (Adrien Brody) face emerging from the bowels of a ship bound for Ellis Island. The score belches brass as Tóth emerges deckside and the camera cranes to sneak a peek of Lady Liberty inverted and buffeted about the frame. It's an astonishingly overwhelming first few moments to the film.
