The epiphany I’ve come to is that The Substance severely lacks the substance (yes I am an intellectual) to justify its absolutely facinorous 140-minute runtime. To add finesse to injury, Fargeat takes you for a child and feels the need to beat its (feeble and relatively uncooked) message into your skull repeatedly to make sure you get it. Shave those scenes off and let me get home early. Nice special effects.
