I couldn't have "celebrated" 500 movies better. This is not a movie, it's a heartbreaking and horrifying experience. There are so many things that could be said but the movie says it all. Just watch it.

With this I have finished Bong Joon-ho's filmography. The film is not bad at all, it does not have a story with any deep meanings but it has its small comic and dramatic moments; it simply tells a story with various characters whose lives intertwine in different ways. There is no satisfactory development of all these stories and it is as if many connections between the scenes were missing. Almost all the characters are actually quite superficial and not very in-depth.

This film was very intense. It tells the story of the city of God and the characters who live there, in absolute poverty, squalor and degradation but above all in violence. A vicious circle that starts from the responsibility of the state, always represented as corrupt and that ends up corrupting everyone. In the end the real criminal is the state but that does not mean justifying all the monstrosities done by these people. They are victims and executioners at the same time and the reflection consists precisely in understanding how much they are one thing rather than the other. The film does not show blood in abundance but always and constantly shows violence, in all its forms. It is chilling to see some scenes and think of not being able to say "it's just a movie" because this was and is the reality of many places in the world.
All this done with meta-cinema through the main character who effectively represents the spectator and with a truly frenetic and impeccable direction and editing.

Micker 17 is a very enjoyable film, light but never exaggerated, funny, dynamic and well directed. The direction of Bong Joon-ho is in fact a guarantee and in this case it’s a mixture of his typical Korean with a little 'American dynamism. The story is very nice and I liked the fact that we are actually transported as the protagonist in the course of events, we never know where it will go to end the situation but meanwhile we see the developments. The characters are all well characterized thanks to the high-level acting by all the actors and in particular Mark Ruffalo who made me have fun in more than one scene (the dinner is very funny). In general a good film, recommended.

Korean zombie movie with a metaphor about kindness and brotherhood and a dysfunctional father-daughter relationship. The ending could have been more daring, which would have made me like it a lot more. Overall a good movie.

This movie exceeded all my expectations. I expected a nice movie but it was really nice. The direction is really above the average of Marvel movies and the story is really well structured, the characters are well developed (more or less). Some relationships between the characters are a bit too rushed but overall it works.

This is not an easy film to review. Among the positive aspects are definitely the direction, cinematography, acting and music. On these four aspects there is nothing to dispute because they are really well done.
The main problem is the script and the rhythm in which one element disturbs the other negatively. The story in the first part tells almost nothing, introduces characters and takes it really too easy. In this part the rhythm could certainly be faster to compensate for this defect. In the second part, however, I think it fails to get straight to the point even if it gives really fantastic and sometimes significant scenes with an intrusion of surrealism that does not disturb too much. The problem is just how all these elements are put together in an often confusing way. It should have cut a lot and be more cohesive. For the rest formally a good film.

Questo non è un film facile da recensire. Tra gli aspetti positivi ci sono sicuramente la regia, la fotografia, la recitazione e la musica. Su questi quattro aspetti non c'è niente da contestare perché sono fatti veramente bene.
Il problema principale è la sceneggiatura e il ritmo in cui un elemento disturba l'altro negativamente. La storia nella prima parte non racconta quasi niente, introduce dei personaggi e se la prende davvero troppo comoda. In questa parte il ritmo poteva sicuramente essere più veloce per compensare questo difetto. Nella seconda parte comunque non riesce secondo me ad arrivare dritto al punto anche se regala scene davvero fantastiche e talvolta significative con un'irruzione di surrealismo che non disturba troppo. Il problema è proprio come tutti questi elementi sono messi insieme in modo spesso confusionario. Avrebbe dovuto tagliare molto ed essere più coeso. Per il resto formalmente un bel film.

Blade Runner is simply one of the best films ever. An absolute masterpiece, and in the top 3 of the best science fiction films ever. The film is based on a book that has become a cult over time but removes two of the main subplots, namely that of the animals and the social status they bring and that of the opposing mystical figures that everyone is obsessed with. This helps to make the plot much simpler and more linear and at the same time more incisive. The themes are in fact much more layered and it is very difficult to identify them all at the first viewing. 
Obviously wanting to live one's life for as long as possible having an extraordinary intelligence like that of androids after becoming aware of oneself: 
"I think, Sebastian, therefore I am" (Descartes and therefore rationalism that marries very well that the rational mind is programmed by androids). 
The denunciation of slavery - made explicit by the iconic phrase in the finale - and the excessive power of the police that in this future can put an end to a life, even if artificial. 
The ridicule of the protagonist who is a lonely man and in order to be loved forces an android to tell him that she loves him and that she wants him (a deliberately embarrassing scene in my opinion), without her really knowing what it means to love or more than anything without Deckard himself knowing. Hence the highlighting of his attitudes of arrogance and control that can only originate from a mean person like him who does not have the slightest problem in killing androids on behalf of his boss.
The fundamental question of what is truly human and what is not, that is, whether they are more "human" than apathetic humans or androids who develop complex emotions and are in all respects similar (or better) to human beings.
Added to all this is a predominant Christian metaphor, made explicit for example in the scene of the nail (which recalls Christ on the cross) and by phrases such as "The prodigal son" or "I've done... questionable things. Nothing the God of biomechanics wouldn't let you into heaven for".
A Christian message that is however reversed because Christ (Roy Batty) does not ively accept his death in favor of something greater (the salvation of his species) but simply wants to live his own life, and in this the difference with the human being is highlighted, because as an android he is naturally selfish but at the same time he is not entirely wrong, on the contrary. Human beings so "prodigal" use such an astonishing potential only to satisfy their own needs, that is, using them (the androids) as slaves - "Quite an experience to live in fear, isn't it? That's what it is to be a slave."
And then again the final monologue:
"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannha gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die."
In addition to the undeniable iconicity of this monologue, it actually contains the entire meaning of the film. The android has experienced and seen things that we simple humans who rise above everything and believe ourselves superior to everything and everyone would not see or even imagine in an entire lifetime, with all our time that we mostly waste. 
And then the praise of the naive and spontaneous goodness represented by J.F. Sebastian, a stupid and lonely person who out of pure altruism helps others. 
Not to mention the banally perfect direction, the editing, the dialogues already mentioned, the acting, THE CINEMATOGRAPHY and above all the music, all factors that make you completely immerse yourself in another world and make it sadly feel real.

RECENSIONE IN ITALIANO:
Blade Runner è semplicemente uno dei migliori film di sempre. Un Capolavoro assoluto, e nella top 3 dei migliori film di fantascienza di sempre. Il film è tratto da un libro diventato cult nel tempo ma toglie due delle principali sottotrame ovvero quella degli animali e dello status sociale che portano e quella delle figure mistiche opposte con cui tutti sono fissati. Questo contribuisce a rendere la trama molto più semplice e lineare a allo stesso tempo più incisiva. I temi infatti sono molto più stratificati ed è molto difficile individuarli tutti alla prima visione. 
Ovviamente il voler vivere la propria vita per più tempo possibile avendo un'intelligenza straordinaria come quella degli androidi dopo aver preso di coscienza di sé:
 “Io penso, Sebastian, pertanto sono" (Cartesio e quindi il razionalismo che si sposa benissimo che la mente razionale è programmata degli androidi).
La denuncia della schiavitù - esplicitata dall'iconica frase nel finale - e dello strapotere della polizia che in questo futuro può porre fine ad una vita, anche se artificiale. 
La messa in ridicolo del protagonista che è un uomo solo e pur di essere amato costringe un'androide a dirgli che lo ama e che lo vuole (scena volutamente imbarazzante e mio avviso), senza però che lei sappia davvero cosa significa amare o più che altro senza che lo sappia Deckard stesso. Da qui la messa in risalto dei suoi atteggiamenti di prepotenza e controllo che possono avere origine solo da una persona meschina come lui che non si pone il minimo problema a uccidere gli androidi per conto del suo capo.
La domanda fondamentale su cosa sia realmente umano e cosa no, cioè se siano più "umani" degli umani apatici o degli androidi che sviluppano emozioni complesse e sono in tutto e per tutto simili (o migliori) agli esseri umani.
A tutto questo si aggiunge una preponderante metafora cristiana, esplicitata per esempio nella scena del chiodo (che ricorda Cristo sulla croce) e dalle frasi come "Il figliol prodigo" oppure “Ho fatto cose... discutibili. Cose per cui il Dio della biomeccanica non mi farebbe entrare in paradiso".
Un messaggio cristiano che è però ribaltato in quanto Cristo (Roy Batty) non accetta ivamente la sua morte in favore di qualcosa di più grande (la salvezza della sua specie) ma vuole vivere semplicemente la propria vita, e in questo viene evidenziata la differenza con l'essere umano, perché in quanto androide egli è naturalmente egoista ma allo stesso tempo non ha tutti i torti, anzi. Gli esseri umani così "prodighi" usano una potenzialità così sorprendente solo per soddisfare i proprio bisogni, cioè impiegandoli (gli androidi) come schiavi - "Bella esperienza vivere nel terrore, vero? In questo consiste essere uno schiavo."
E poi ancora il monologo finale:
“Io ne ho viste cose che voi umani non potreste immaginarvi. Navi da combattimento in fiamme al largo dei bastioni di Orione... e ho visto i raggi B balenare nel buio vicino alle porte di Tannhä. E tutti quei momenti andranno perduti nel tempo come lacrime nella pioggia. È tempo di morire.”
Oltre all'iconicità indiscutibile di questo monologo, esso racchiude in realtà tutto il significato del film. L'androide ha vissuto e visto cose che noi semplici umani che ci ergiamo al di sopra di tutto e che ci crediamo superiori a tutto e tutti non vedremmo e nemmeno immagineremmo in una vita intera, con tutto il nostro tempo che in gran parte sprechiamo. 
E poi l'elogio dell'ingenua e spontanea bontà rappresentato da J.F. Sebastian, una persona stupida e sola che per puro altruismo aiuta gli altri.
Per non parlare della regia banalmente perfetta, il montaggio, i dialoghi già citati, la recitazione, LA FOTOGRAFIA e soprattutto le musiche, tutti fattori che fanno immergere completamente in un altro mondo e lo fanno percepire tristemente come reale.

This film is a masterpiece.
Cinematographically magnificent, the film has truly brilliant ideas, always funny jokes, a fast pace that entertains the viewer from start to finish. We All Loved Each Other So Much is an Italian film that talks about post-war Italy, it talks about that society so divided by peace and opinions, by ideals and the economic boom of the sixties and the related social inequalities. It talks about both ignorance and intellectual arrogance. It doesn't save anyone, it criticizes everyone and everything but at the same time it exalts Italian culture. In fact, the film is full of references to old Italian films and is dedicated to Vittorio De Sica, making it a true tribute to Italian and international cinema. This slice of society is represented through the lives of three friends, united by the war but divided by ideologies and the social class they belong to.

with their respective love stories in the middle where (Ettore Scola) does not spare the criticism of men (who would like to change women to their liking).

RECENSIONE IN ITALIANO:
Questo film è un capolavoro.
Cinematograficamente magnifico, il film ha delle idee veramente geniali, battute sempre divertenti, un ritmo incalzante che intrattiene lo spettatore dall'inizio alla fine. C'eravamo tanto amati è un film italiano che parla dell'Italia del suo dopoguerra, parla di quella società così divisa dalla pace e dalle opinioni, dagli ideali e dal boom economico degli anni sessanta e delle relative disuguaglianze sociali. Parla sia di ignoranza che di arroganza intellettuale. Non salva nessuno, critica tutti e tutto ma nello stesso tempo esalta la cultura Italiana. Il film infatti è pieno di citazioni ai vecchi film italiani ed è proprio dedicato a Vittorio De Sica rendendolo un vero e proprio tributo al cinema italiano e internazionale. Questo squarcio della società viene rappresentato attraverso le vite di tre amici, uniti dalla guerra ma divisi dalle ideologie e dalla classe sociale di appartenenza

Absolutely extraordinary film. The most anarchic film I've ever seen, beautiful from start to finish. A hymn to independent cinema and a ferocious and equally funny critique of Hollywood blockbusters (like the scene on the set of Forrest Gump 2). It was also instrumental in recovering from watching the Minecraft movie. A must watch for cinephiles.

This review will not be easy since this is by far one of the best films ever. I will try to explain as best as I can how much I love this film
The direction of this film is nothing short of monumental, it does not reach the heights that Sergio Leone will reach with Once Upon a Time in the West or Once Upon a Time in America where it will become practically perfect but even in this case it is close to perfection. Camera movements, very long shots, medium shots, very close-ups follow one another in a perfect union. The camera is always where it needs to be and every scene is simply beautiful to see. The composition of the image is something amazing, nothing on scene and out of place.
The editing of this masterpiece is par excellence one of the best-made editing in history, editing that manages to keep a tight and constant rhythm, that never bores the viewer's eye despite some dilated times and that culminates in the duel scene that I don't think needs commenting.
The acting is an acting of the bodies and their movements but above all it is a constant game of glances. The glances of the wife and the child at the beginning of the film, the glance of the general towards the end and the glances of the challengers in the duel just to name the most iconic. 
THE SOUNDTRACK honestly I wouldn't even know how to comment on a work like this, history did it for me. 
The story has the same weight as the music and the images because it is rich in meanings. In addition to the constant denunciation of war, the film focuses on characters who don't give a damn about war, selfish characters who only chase money, each with their own moral code that distinguishes them in their names but then within the film we will see that these archetypes will become blurred because the desire for revenge and wealth tends to overwhelm them without ever changing them totally. A denunciation of the senselessness of war that culminates in the powerful and symbolic bridge scene, where hundreds of soldiers die in order to obey the government and save what is only an old and useless bridge. The dialogues, like every Leone film, are pungent, direct, sharp, intelligent, cynical but always hide second meanings that make the viewer who catches them feel gratified. There is a reference to the meaning of family. Symbolic in this sense is the scene where Tuco meets his brother but this sense of brotherhood between the characters who can never completely trust each other permeates the entire film. If you haven't seen this absolute masterpiece, remedy that immediately.

Questa recensione non sarà facile dato che questo è di gran lunga uno dei migliori film di sempre. Cercherò di spiegare al meglio possibile quanto io adori questo film
La regia di questo film è a dir poco monumentale, non raggiunge le vette che Sergio Leone raggiungerà con C'era una volta il West o con C'era una volta in America dove diventerà praticamente perfetta ma anche in questo caso rasenta la perfezione. Movimenti di macchina, campi lunghissimi, campi medi, primissimi piani si susseguono in un connubio perfetto. La macchina da presa è sempre dove deve essere e ogni scena è semplicemente bella da vedere. La composizione dell'immagine è qualcosa di strepitoso, niente in scena e fuori posto. 
Il montaggio di questo capolavoro è per antonomasia uno dei montaggi meglio realizzati della storia, montaggio che riesce a tenere un ritmo serrato e costante, che non fa mai annoiare l'occhio dello spettatore nonostante alcuni tempi dilatati e che culmina nella scena del triello che non penso ci sia bisogno di commentare. 
La recitazione è una recitazione dei corpi e dei loro movimenti ma più di tutto è un gioco di sguardi costante. Gli sguardi della moglie e del bambino all'inizio del film, lo sguardo del generale verso la fine e gli sguardi degli sfidanti nel triello solo per citare i più iconici. 
LA COLONNA SONORA onestamente non saprei nemmeno come commentare una opera del genere, lo ha fatto la storia al mio posto.
La storia ha lo stesso peso della musica e delle immagini perché è ricca di significati. Oltre alla costante denuncia della guerra il film si concentra su dei personaggi che della guerra non se ne fregano niente, personaggi egoisti che inseguono solo il denaro, ognuno con il proprio codice morale che li contraddistingue nei nomi ma poi all'interno del film vedremo che questi archetipi diventeranno sfumati perché il desiderio di vendetta e di ricchezza tende a sopraffarli senza mai cambiarli totalmente. Denuncia dell'insensatezza della guerra che culmina nella scena del ponte, potente e simbolica, dove i soldati muoiono a centinaia pur di obbedire al governo e salvare quello che è solo un vecchio e inutile ponte. I dialoghi come ogni film di Leone sono pungenti, diretti, taglienti, intelligenti, cinici ma nascondono sempre secondi significati che fanno sentire gratificato lo spettatore che li coglie. C'è un rimando al significato di famiglia. Simbolico in questo senso è la scena dove Tuco incontra il fratello ma permea tutto il film questo senso di fratellanza tra i personaggi che non possono però mai fidarsi completamente l'uno dell'altro. Se non hai visto questo capolavoro assoluto rimedia immediatamente.

Truly a beautiful film, enjoyable from start to finish. The direction is geometrically fascinating and the cinematography has very bright colors but never too saturated. The acting of all is truly excellent.

This is a unique film to say the least. At first it didn't completely captivate me but watching it again and thinking about it I found it to be a great film. Starting from the direction which is something phenomenal with scenes that were then taken from countless films in the following years and from the acting which is rightly considered one of the best ever, with a De Niro in his best form. The film in addition to its historical importance and cultural impact shows a horrible protagonist. An anti-hero by definition, a failure, the last of society who doesn't fully realize he is such. He simply feels out of place, but thinks that his world is the same as that of others and tries in every way to make it coincide with the outside world. Instead Travis is a person traumatized by the war who returns to his homeland and thinks that everything is the same. He doesn't know that his psyche is now destroyed, that he has been used by the United States government to fight a useless war. The beginning of the film is very powerful, with him who can't sleep evidently because of everything he saw in the war. He begins to observe the streets of New York and we immerse ourselves in this journey with him, we understand his point of view but we cannot really understand his feelings. If it is true that this film approaches all lonely people and makes this its central theme, in reality the most important point in my opinion is precisely the social denunciation of American society (and not only). He does not realize that going to see a porn film with a person he has just met is for maniacs, he cannot understand how a child can be a prostitute and he is fascinated by the mayor's propaganda, initially only as a consequence of his falling in love but we soon understand that inside him there is a deep and rooted hatred, he would like to blame someone but he does not know who to blame and so first he finds confirmation in the political propaganda of the indifferent and then he looks for the culprit in the mayor who had made him false promises, the same promises that had been made to him before he went to war. He would like to clean the streets because he does not realize that it is a complex and well-structured problem that permeates every aspect of society. He thinks that there is only degradation and that it is enough to remove it from the streets, no one knows exactly how. His psyche is completely destroyed, as I said, but at the same time it is very lucid because in his world everything is fine, it is the others who do not understand him, until he realizes the society in which he lives and that he can never have a place in it unless he commits an extreme act. If he had killed the political candidate he would have been pointed out as a monster and would have been imprisoned but after killing the exploiters of little girls he became a hero. Travis is a person without a backbone and without a purpose and he finds this purpose first in the war and then, after the period of disorientation and non-integration into society, he finds it in bringing the war home, to somehow process all those traumas he has suffered. In the end, society praises a crazy psychopath and considers him a hero and Travis convinces himself that what he did was right by making us understand that anyone could be someone in this way (a theme that Scorsese will develop in The King of Comedy). 
If society does not help the marginalized sooner or later they will explode against the system and this system will direct them against the people corrupted by that same system instead of solving the problem at its root. The music is also simply extraordinary, the photography perfect. One of the most important films of all time is the film that best represents the New Hollywood.

Questo è un film a dir poco unico. All'inizio non mi aveva rapito completamente ma rivedendolo e ripensandoci l'ho trovato un grandissimo film. Partendo dalla regia che è qualcosa di fenomalnale con scene che sono state poi riprese da innumerevoli film negli anni successivi e dalla recitazione che è giustamente considerata una delle migliori di sempre, con un De Niro nella sua forma migliore. Il film oltre alla sua importanza storica e impatto culturale mostra un protagonista orribile. Un anti eroe per definizione, un fallito, l'ultimo della società che non si rende totalmente conto di essere tale. Lui si sente semplicemente fuori posto, ma pensa che il suo mondo sia uguale a quello degli altri e cerca in tutti i modi di farlo coincidere con il mondo esterno. Invece Travis è una persona traumatizzata dalla guerra che trona in patria e pensa che tutto sia uguale. Non sa che la sua psiche è ormai distrutta, che è stato usato dal governo degli stati uniti per combattere una guerra inutile. L'inizio del film è potentissimo, con lui che non riesce a dormire evidentemente a causa di tutto quello che ha visto in guerra. Inizia a osservare le strade di New York e noi ci immergiamo in questo viaggio con lui, capiamo il suo punto di vista ma non riusciamo veramente a capire le sue sensazioni. Se è vero che questo film si avvicina a tutte le persone sole e di questo ne fa il suo tema centrale, in realtà il punto più importante secondo me è proprio la denuncia sociale alla società americana (e non). Non si rende conto che andare a vedere un film porno con una persona appena conosciuta è da maniaci, non si capacita di come una bambina possa fare la prostituta ed è ammaliato dalla propaganda del sindaco, inizialmente solo come conseguenza del suo innamoramento ma capiamo presto che dentro di lui c'è un odio profondo e radicato, vorrebbe dare la colpa a qualcuno ma non saprebbe a chi darla e quindi prima trova conferma nella propaganda politica qualunquista e poi ricerca il colpevole nel sindaco che gli aveva fatto false promesse, le stesse promesse che gli erano state fatte prima che andasse in guerra. Lui vorrebbe fare pulizia delle strade perché non si rende conto che è un problema complesso e ben strutturato che permea ogni aspetto della società. Lui pensa che ci sia solo degrado e basti toglierlo dalle strade, non si sa bene come. La sua psiche è completamente distrutta, come ho detto, ma allo stesso tempo è lucidissima perché nel suo mondo tutto va bene, sono gli altri che non lo capiscono, fino a quando non si rende conto della società in cui vive e che non porre mai avere un posto al suo interno se non compiendo un gesto estremo. Se avesse ucciso il candidato politico sarebbe stato additato come un mostro e sarebbe stato imprigionato ma dopo aver ucciso gli sfruttatori di bambine è diventato un eroe. Travis è una persona senza spina dorsale e senza uno scopo e questo scopo lo trova prima nella guerra e poi, dopo il periodo di disorientamento e non integrazione nella società, lo ritrova nel riportare la guerra a casa, per elaborare in qualche modo tutti quei traumi che ha subito. Alla fine la società elogia un pazzo psicopatico e lo considera un eroe e Travis si convince che quello che ha fatto è giusto facendoci intendere che chiunque potrebbe essere qualcuno in questo modo (tema che Scorsese svilupperà in The King of Comedy). 
Se la società non aiuta gli emarginati prima o poi esploderanno contro il sistema e questo sistema le indirizzerà contro le persone corrotte da quello stesso sistema al posto di risolvere il problema alla base. La musica inoltre è semplicemente straordinaria, la fotografia perfetta. Uno dei più importanti film di sempre è il film che maggiormente rappresenta la New Hollywood.

This film is crazy in every way. The performances are nothing short of extraordinary, like the rest of the film. The characters slowly descend into madness, and you wonder continuously if what you are seeing is all a dream, or the point of view of one of the two, or reality. There is a scene in particular that made me think of this film also as an analysis of the crisis of identity, perhaps due to the traumas suffered (are these traumas real or the result of lies?), perhaps to the situation, that is, isolation, or simple madness. The fact that not even the protagonists trust each other is very symbolic in this, given that not even the viewer really trusts what he is seeing. A grotesque film that absolutely deserves a viewing.

I really don't know how to describe this film. It has some truly spectacular images in the first part and it's an experimental and fresh editing but then the rhythm itself gets lost along the film. "Experimental" is definitely the adjective that best describes this film. I was annoyed by the excessive use of step printing (the images that go in bursts), while I found the wide angle perfect and not at all invasive. The story is not very cohesive and could have been more so. The neon images are definitely my favorite thing about the film. I couldn't get in tune with the characters who I felt were quite distant and surreal as well as linked to another culture. In other words, it didn't give me the idea of ​​thematic universality of "In the Mood for Love". It's still a good film.

Non saprei davvero come descrivere questo film. Ha delle immagini nella prima parte veramente spettacolari è un montaggio sperimentale e fresco però poi si perde lungo il film anche il ritmo stesso. Sicuramente "sperimentale" è l'aggettivo che meglio descrive questo film. Mi ha dato fastidio l'eccessivo uso dello step printing (le immagini che vanno a scatti), mentre il grandangolo l'ho trovato perfetto e per niente invasivo. La storia non è molto coesa e avrebbe potuto esserlo di più. Sicuramente le immagini al neon sono la mia cosa preferita del film. Non sono riuscito a entrare in sintonia con i personaggi che ho sentito abbastanza distanti e surreali oltre che legati ad un'altra cultura. Non mi ha dato cioè l'idea di universalità tematica di "In the Mood for Love". Rimane comunque un bel film.

I hoped I would like this movie and I did. I saw it at the cinema because I knew it would be shown and I wanted to see it on the big screen. The experience itself was truly magnificent for a movie that is simply a masterpiece. A love movie that doesn't have a kiss or a hug. It's the illusion of an impossible love, trapped in a moment, a point in time that was and might not be. Only the two who lived it know, a secret whispered in a hole in the wall. The protagonists are rational yet in love, they wonder if it's right to let go or if they should leave this love encapsulated in an instant forever. The photography is perfect to say the least, the direction is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen in my life, it reaches the levels of the best movies ever and thinking about it this is one of those. A movie that talks about a specific reality and yet manages to be universal is a feat that only a master like wkw could accomplish. This movie is unique in its narration and style and will remain so forever. A film, like the story it tells, trapped in a perpetual moment.

Genuinely a great film. It does what it's supposed to do very well. It's not an excellent film but it has some really strong moments. It shows the misogynistic and backward Church and actually focuses on the disagreements between "progressives" and "traditionalists" and the criticism focuses on the fact that they are all human and selfish. The direction is very well done and adequate to the type of narration, aided by excellent editing that does not bore the viewer. The acting is generally good but in my opinion it is not at "masterpiece level". A good film that summarizes the various points of view present in the Church but also reserves some notable narrative surprises.

Wow. This was definitely a wonderful viewing at the cinema. The images and shots are breathtaking. The pace of the film is slow but never really heavy, it simply takes you with it towards a sort of descent into hell. Adrien Brody and Guy Pearce were simply phenomenal giving the film truly memorable performances. As I said, the direction and cinematography are top notch. The film is really very raw in many scenes on a more conceptual level than anything else. In general the story remains constant even though the narration (and the things narrated) changes. The characters are deepened in their relationships but I would have preferred a little more criticism, it remains very much on its own and on pure cinematic narration. The music is always spot on and the editing is functional to the story. The epilogue could have given something more but it remains consistent with the film. The intimate scenes are handled perfectly by the director. A great film, not a masterpiece but it is definitely worth seeing, possibly at the cinema away from distractions.

This is very simply an absolute masterpiece. The dialogues, the plot of the story used in a brilliant way combined with a great editing, the acting, the direction, the criticism of the old values ​​that are pure appearance and formality and therefore hide a basic hypocrisy that cannot be eradicated. Everything is perfect in this film. It deserves to have such a high score, maybe it will not be the best of all time but one of the best for sure.

I have to say I expected more. I really liked the experimental direction and editing. I hated all the characters, I didn't empathize with anyone and in the final part this empathy was really forced, leading me to disgust myself for everything that appeared on the screen. Dramatic in an exaggerated way, I would have preferred a more linear story and more in-depth characters to deal with a theme like this. Not bad but I hoped for better.

The film starts very well in the first hour because it has all the prerequisites to be a masterpiece. The detailed psychological analysis of a man in the grip of a very important ethical doubt, then in the second half it loses its initial bite, it turns into a thriller (well above average) a little badly paced and a little banal in some ways. The final motivation personally very disappointing. An attempt at social criticism that could have been structured in a much more compelling and profound way.
It doesn't deserve to be the fifth best movie on letterboxd.
