one of the most optimistic films of all time. happiness and joy are choices we make in spite of a world trying to convince us otherwise. every messy bizarre tonal shift in this movie is a celebration of its core ethic which is having fun. total delight.

really beautifully made and pretty engaging for its run time which is part of why i was surprised that i left feeling short changed. there are dots here to be connected, but in my opinion the audience is left with too much of the work. a lot of truly interesting stuff gestured at with little follow through. given the quality of the filmmaking, the opened / neglected themes feel even more annoying. it’s almost 4 hours long, not like you didn’t have the time to say something more substantial.
